Great seaview, shame the sea isn't clean
I stayed in the Patara Prince Hotel and Resort in Kalkan Turkey in August 2015 with three other friends. The grounds are beautiful and the sea views stunning. The Resort is right on the water's edge. However, the Resort has lost it's 2015 Blue Flag status.
I asked the manager why, but he just shrugged. He didn't deny it, but offered no explanation. It will be due to poor water quality, but I wanted to know specifics, which I didn't get so we didn't risk swimming in the sea as you could see stuff floating on it. There are three nice pools to choose from, but they weren't as refreshing as the sea would have been in 35+C heat. It was a real disappointment.
The hotel room was also a disappointment as it was very tired, A/C didn't work, mould in shower. Food on the resort is very expensive but only average. The Turkish Breakfast is not worth it. Uninspiring limp cheese, olives and omelet.
The Hotel/Resort also makes a very poor attempt at a nightclub, which in any case is not conducive to the sedate surroundings. It pumps out Ibiza style music until 4a.m. For one thing, the cocktails are over-priced at 35TL (about £8) and not very good.
Kalkan is idyllic and definitely worth a visit and the beach there still has it's Blue Flag! But I would avoid the Patara Prince Hotel and it's rude staff, whether it gets it's Blue Flag back or not.
