The one star given is far too generous

The one star given is far too generous. Having rented a flat to 12 months from Pennington, I have had no access to my parking space for the whole 12 months. All I needed was a remote to open the gate to the ground floor parking. I called, emailed, wrote letters, visited them in person, and I got nothing. Upon trying to claim back money the argument given was that I haven’t incurred any further cost for not having access. The flat wasn’t even clean when I moved in. 1 year and I’m moving out because of them. If you are a landlord, steer well clear of Pennington. If you are a tenant, steer well clear of Pennington. They are a total disgrace. One thing they do very well, though, is uphold the appalling reputation of estate agents.

Run by bots apparently

I’ve been trying for a week just to book an in-person viewing of two apartments, so far I’ve had no human respond but an AI chatbot disguised as a person named Kelly, profile picture and permanently listed as “Online”
All I wanted was to see the actual space and not strategically angled photos and video from a wide angle GoPro trying to make the space look larger, instead I’ve had “Kelly” repeating meanings apologies and promising I’m being prioritised for the past 3 days.

Avoid them completely

Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service. I applied for a rental property more than once. I was left wondering for days what the outcome was. I emailed them more than once and had no response. I wouldn’t bother with them again.

Clare is very helpful & professional

Booking link for viewing was helpful, and a nice surprise in a fast moving market. Clare was really kind and helpful showing me around the property, really appreciated her advice and warm manner and responding to my queries. The referencing portal is efficicient, albeit the process seeming to take a long while to start.

Disappointing Experience with Poor Communication and Unfair Charges

I had a very disappointing experience with Penningtons as managing agents for the last year or so of a tenancy that lasted 5.5 years. Initially this was okay although communication was a bit hit and miss. Despite my efforts to maintain the property to a high standard—including professional cleaning, regular carpet cleaning, and paying for full redecoration at the start of the tenancy due to its poor initial condition—these efforts were not acknowledged.

Communication was consistently poor throughout. Maintenance requests were routinely ignored or inadequately addressed, and important follow-ups during inspections were either not passed to the landlord or miscommunicated entirely. Emails often went unanswered, and attempts to resolve concerns were met with silence.

At check-out following a 'no fault' eviction notice due to landlord apparently wishing to sell, I faced several unfair charges. For example, I was charged for the removal of a dishwasher that remained in the property and was even advertised as an included appliance when it was listed for re-rent with Belvoir. I also offered to return to the property to resolve any cleaning issues but this was due to being informed by Penningtons and the Landlord that the property was going to be fully redecorated and marketed for sale. This request was ignored. Items like wear and tear from normal use were marked for a charge, despite the long duration of tenancy.

Reason for the 1 star is that overall, I found the experience unprofessional and poorly managed. Tenants deserve clear communication, fair treatment, and recognition of their efforts to care for a property and not left feeling that they are not worthy of respect. Penningtons especially towards the latter part of the tenancy failed on all aspects of this.

I have been renting with Penningtons…

I have been renting with Penningtons for over 12 years, initially for a one year let! My home is well kept, living in a small area off of the main road with a property either side of me, good family’s, all long term renters. I think that alone is a representation of Penningtons professional service, all checks are prompt, yearly gas and house inspections on time and efficient staff available.

Thank you to Phil and Paula

I will be moving in tomorrow so my review is based on my experience so far. Phil has been incredibly helpful and reassuring due the process of finding a rental. He got in contact as promised after a house became available in the area we wanted and arranged a viewing in his own time. Paula has also been helpful and prompt in her response when asking for letters to provide to the schools.

Pennington - Simply the Best

Phil Peartree in lettings is a consummate professional as well as a thoroughly nice guy. He always seeks to make both landlord and renter happy. I was helping a friend of mine to move. This was forced on her due to her current rental being sold. Phil moved heaven and earth to ensure that my friend was moved by the proposed eviction date. He even did some work while he was on holiday abroad to ensure the success of the deal. My friend and I are truly grateful. I also had some dealings with Phil's colleagues who were also charming and professional. If I could I would give 6 stars. Full marks Pennington.

Penningtons Ipswich team are some of…

Penningtons Ipswich team are some of the most helpful, lovely, hard working and personable people I’ve come across.

Bethany, Phil and the whole team pulled together and went out of their way to help me move into my now-new home. We need more businesses with teams like this.

Absolutely would recommend to the public and to my close friends and family.

Trustworthy, professional, extremely helpful, very responsive and hold your hand throughout the whole transition of finding a home.

So far excellent service

So far excellent service. Phil was extremely friendly and helpful during the rental process which was completed very quickly. I have just collected my keys and have highlighted some points on initial inspection, nothing major. I hope we will continue to have great communication and also a long and stress free relationship.

Would not recommend

Would not recommend. Was without hot water for 4 months due to their lack of communication and urgency. Upon leaving the property due to the above, they still took roughly 1/3rd of the deposit from me. Avoid.

Great Agency

I was looking for a property to buy for 2 years and when one came up on the exact road I wanted to live on I was overjoyed, but more so overjoyed with the overall service and professionalism from Charlie! He always replied to any of my questions/queries and was so forthcoming for everything. Because of him we managed to speed up the conveyancing in the beginning. Throughout the process of buying with Charlie it makes my first experience buying a property so easy and stress free - highly recommend!

Avoid at all cost

Are you a tenant or landlord? Either way, avoid it like the plague. They will charge you for anything, but they won't give you any service in return. Resolving issues takes literally months. In my specific case, it's been more than 5 months and still counting. They don't reply to emails for weeks, and despite the landlords calling them directly to resolve issues, they still don't do anything about it. I don't think I've had any worse experience anywhere else.
