Will wriggle out of as much as possible…
Will wriggle out of as much as possible when you submit a claim! Really gone down hill
Terrible company
Terrible company. Took 2 months to process claim cos they lost it twice. Then put exclusions for all the things my vet found that might be causing it on my insurance from the date that i had first called the vet and the injury. Just to get out of paying. Absolutly pointless insurance. Complete waste of time and money. Avoid!
What you need, when you need it
I've always found Petplan easy to deal with, both for my horse and for other pet members of the family. They settle claims pretty quickly, keep you informed, and often work directly with the vet to handle payment.
Highly recommend
I've had my older horse insured with petplan since I bought her 14 years ago. Petplan have paid out on numerous claims for her without quibble. In the last couple of years I've changed her policy to suit our needs better - still with petplan - and had my younger horse insured with them too. Great service.
Premiums a little more expensive but worth it for peace of mind
Have used Petplan for insurance with non-ridden companion ponies and older horse who was semi-retired but still lightly hacked until we sadly lost him at the end of last year aged 27yrs.
When we re-homed a small pony as a companion only I realised he wasn't quite as bad as first thought and slowly restarted and brought him back on again for riding with the help of the farmer's young daughter. PP chopped and changed the insurance to suit as he was now being ridden and covered the young girl for rider insurance etc. When eventually the pony had discovered a new lease of life and was enjoying being ridden again I signed him over to the same young girl (sadly I couldn't justify keeping a 11.2hh Sec A or let him go to ruin turned out in a field) the insurance policy was cancelled straight away without fees or hassle.
Older horse was only covered under veteran plan due to being 22yrs when we got him and the max that covered was for up to £1500 in vet fees for personal injury (accident only)
It is frustrating that we couldn't get any additional cover for him but to be fair not many others would cover at all.
Premiums are slightly more expensive than others but as with PetPlan insurance we have for our dogs, it's worth the peace of mind knowing it takes only a call and copy of insurance policy and PP / vet practice with liaise directly with each other in the event of needing to claim.
The monthly standing order payments just came out same time every month with paperwork sent through the post each year on renewal and as I said earlier, any changes or alterations were easy to sort and done via phone or email no problem.
Read other poor reviews from people whose claims weren't paid out for horses that sadly needed to be euthanised and I can't imagine or comment on that but we didn't claim or have cover for this anyway.
I personally have never had any issue or problem at all with PetPlan and if and when the time comes and we find ourselves in need of insurance again, we will use them again.
I’ve insured my mare with them for…
I’ve insured my mare with them for three years so In the event of illness etc, I’m covered. I’ve just had to have her put to sleep because she was practically crippled and could barely walk or turn due to issues with her back, pelvis and hocks. PetPlan in their great wisdom decided that this wasn’t enough to meet their requirement for euthanasia on humane grounds. She had no quality of life, but this clearly wasn’t enough for them. So, do yourselves a favour and don’t bother paying a monthly premium to them, you’re better off saving it.
Brilliant service
I submitted a claim via my vet - they sent on. Within 2 days of it being sent I received a text from Petplan to say they had received the claim. The following day I received an email saying that they had approved the claim and were sending payment to the vet practice.
I call that a damn good service!! Thank you very much.
