I've been taking my 30-month-old…

I've been taking my 30-month-old Yorkshire terrier to Petpractice's Amersham location since she was a pup. The clinic is always bright and spotless, and the team there is consistently welcoming and accommodating. Just four days ago, on a Sunday, I discovered a small lump on my dog's stomach. The following day, I brought her in, and after a thorough check, the vet suggested it could be a mammary tumor or hernia. Regardless, it needed further examination. They promptly scheduled surgery for 11 am the next day. Upon arrival, I consulted with a male vet who suspected it was a hernia. After leaving her in their capable hands, the vet called me with confirmation that it was indeed a hernia, which he successfully treated. I picked her up a few hours later, and the vet thoroughly explained the procedure to me. By the evening, my dog was back to her cheerful, energetic self, eating and playing as usual. Despite the many vet clinics in my area, and given my extensive experience with dogs over the years, Petpractice Amersham undoubtedly stands out as the best. Their care and dedication truly set them apart, and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

In my opinion

In my opinion, this veterinary clinic is suitable only for basic vaccinations and deworming. If your pet seems unwell, it's crucial to consult another vet. For routine care like vaccines, you're likely fine, but for anything more complex, my advice is to steer clear. Regrettably, my own cat's life was lost due to misdiagnosis by inexperienced veterinarians. Despite seeking a second opinion, I was met with the same incorrect assessment, leading to a missed case of feline distemper—a common and treatable virus. My requests for blood tests were dismissed, and I was instead advised on unnecessary dietary changes. Ultimately, when my cat was visibly suffering, I was told to consider euthanasia if her condition didn't improve within 12 hours after an aggressive treatment. Yet, they charged me for medication I never used, knowing she might not survive. My efforts to resolve the situation with them have been unsuccessful, but I plan to escalate my concerns to relevant authorities. I hope to provide an update on this matter soon.

Great Vets

I am surprised this vets doesn't have higher ratings. I have several pets at different vets and I have nothing but positive experiences here (Marlborough branch). Irina especially is great, very attentive, you never feel rushed and I genuinely feel like she cares about my pets. I have never had any duff advice or negative experiences, so can only speak from my own situation of being happy with their service.

**The best vets in the Amersham area**

I have a 30 months Yorkshire terrier that I've always taken to the Amersham branch of Petpractice since she was a puppy. The premises are bright & clean & I've always found the staff to be friendly & helpful. 4 days ago on a Sunday I found a small lump on the dogs stomach, I took her to the vets the following day &after examination was told it was probably a mammary tumour or a hernia, what ever it was had to be investigated. I was given an appointment for surgery at 11am the very next day. I took her there & saw a male vet who said it looked like a hernia. I left her & later the vet phoned me to confirm it was a hernia that he had successfully treated. I collected my dog a few hours later. The vet took time to explain in detail what he had done. By the evening the dog was her old self, eating & bouncing around as usual. There are several vet practices in my area, I'm in my 80's & over the years have had many dogs & have been to them all, but Petpractice Amersham are by far the best vets around, they really are helpful & very caring! I highly recommend them.

If I could give a minus I would

If I could give a minus I would. DONT EVER take your pet to pets practice. My poor boy Peter the giant rabbit only just 2 years old, died early hours this morning. After only seeing the vet yesterday morning and being told he was a good weight after he’d lost so much in 3 days!!! Saying he is going to be just fine, and need help with what he thought was a bacteria in his stomach and that’s what he was treated for. I don’t know what it was, or how it happened, but he just deteriorated from the moment we gave him what the vets told us to give him. I’m furious. I’m so upset. What a JOKE OF A VETS!!!! they diagnosed my dog wrong once. But I thought that could have just been a blip. It wasn’t life threatening. But this!!!! Watching the life drain from his eyes like he had just given up early this morning was heartbreaking. I wish I had read reviews about them sooner. I wish I had taken him elsewhere, I do feel he would still be with us otherwise. Please if you care for your pets. Don’t EVER go to pets practice. This is one in Bournemouth, but I’m sure they are all the same. I shall be reporting them, blasting on social media of this awful tragedy.

The Very Best Treatment

I have used the Pet Practice in Bournemouth and Poole for over 15 years. They have treated my beloved cats who lived their amazing cheeky lives to 15 and 18yrs respectively, and my dogs of course - my darling Jack Russell was by my side under the PP conscientious care and advice until she was 17 and I have my best four-legged friend now looking after me and he is 14 and going strong, Asia and team are like family now - and I trust them implicitly. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. The Pet Practice goes above and beyond, and always has - I have been blessed with the most amazing pets and they have been blessed with the most amazing care thanks to the Pet Practice.

Disgusting Experience

Review Title: Terrible Experience at Pets Practice

I had an incredibly distressing experience at Pets Practice Romsey that I feel compelled to share. When I brought my dog in for treatment, I was shocked by the way we were treated. The staff made it clear that if we didn’t pay a staggering £1,500 for treatment, they would simply put my beloved dog down. This was not only heartless but completely unacceptable.

To make matters worse, they refused to give our dog back until we paid the exorbitant fee. There was no prior notice about the costs involved, and when I inquired about keeping my dog there overnight on a drip, I was blindsided by how much they demanded. It became painfully obvious that their primary concern was money, not the well-being of the animals.

In a desperate attempt to save my dog's life, we sought a second opinion from another vet. Thankfully, our dog is now back in action and making tremendous progress. This experience with Pets Practice was not only stressful but also revealed a troubling lack of compassion and professionalism. I would strongly advise anyone considering their services to think twice. It’s clear they prioritise profit over the health and happiness of animals.

NOT a good experience

IMO this is a vaccine only vets - as in - if you think your pet is ill PLEASE go see another vet. If just vaccines and wormers I think you’ll be ok - but anything else? - well - from experience- JUST NOPE! Your pet might DIE.
I am currently complaining to them (if they ever answer!) and if not settled will approach all governing bodies. I had to have my kitten PTS as the young female vets misdiagnosed twice (I even asked for 2nd opinion and 2nd vet regurgitated word for word what 1st vet said.) Billingshurst branch. Ignored ALL my concerns, ignored ALL symptoms, finally a locum diagnosed what was a common virus (feline distemper) that with prompt treatment on my 1st appointment 2.5 weeks prior could have saved the kitten. I’d asked for blood tests in 1st and 2nd appointments- they said I didn’t need as kitten “wasn’t ill at all” and instead they said its lack of appetite was down to me for offering high protein kitten food and chopped chicken - so told me to go to the pet food shop attached and buy … high protein kitten food(?!?)
On the 2nd to last appointment the kitten very clearly dying and I was told if she hadn’t turned a corner in 12 hours after a massive dose of antibiotics lasting 24hrs, opiates and fluids - kindest thing would be to PTS the next morning. But they still charged me for a week of antibiotics that weren’t due to be taken until that next evening knowing full well in 12 hours there was a BIG BIG chance I would be bringing her back in to be PTS. Which I sadly did. They then refused refund on untouched antibiotics.
I will update this review in time.

Toto

Went to pet practice Poole today , having vacated from the Bournemouth practice.. My dog had vaccination and check without any fuss. Asha Day is the best vet ever. We had her years ago and she left Bournemouth branch to go to Poole. What a delight it is to me as pet owner to see her again and for her to deal with our lovely Toto. Thank you Asha you are an asset to the pet practice

Uncompassionate, disorganised and greedy

Not even worth 1 star - This is a genuine review, all facts detailed below Pet Practice are aware of.
We were loyal customers of Pet Practice Salisbury for nearly 14 years
Received excellent care until Anne (one of the vets) passed away in Sept'22
Following this the practice began to decline in service and care, seeing a high turnover in Vets and other staff. Yet we remained loyal, hoping they would resolve things.
Beginning of March'24 our cat was injured and we spent nearly every day at the vet that week, every appointment with a locum vet. The cat staying in all day on the Monday, booked for pick up at 5:45 with 5yr old with me and 2yr old in the car with Dad, and the constant promise 'you're next'...In the end we didn't walk out of the Practice until 07:50pm! Kids had no dinner and past their bedtime, no apology.
It was later this same week I took our beloved dog in with the cat for one of her reviews. It was during this visit we were told our dog was approaching the end and we had a week, max, we gave our amazing girl a final hurrah over the weekend with a beach trip and ice creams to say goodbye the following Monday.
When we turned up for this awful event we were met with yet another locum vet, one neither of us had ever met before.
We were offered a paw print and fur clippings free of charge by the Practice, which of course we agreed and were grateful for. We were prepared to pay for this service by the cremation company, but we took the Practice up on their offer, a mistake which is now unfixable.
Around 2 weeks later, 27th March, I visit to pick up our girls' ashes and ask where are the fur clippings and paw print, I get told, 'can't find them, really busy, we'll look later and call you tomorrow'
Next day, 28th March, no call, so I pop back into the Practice, I sit and wait for over 30 minutes, to then be called into a consultation room by another vet to be told 'so sorry we can't find them, it was a locum vet etc' however, the nurse who asked us on the day about where we'd like the clippings from, was there and denying any part/memory of the event. I was promised that the Practice would contact the agency and locum vet to get an update/explanation and get back to me as soon as possible, following the Easter weekend.
Friday 5th April no contact/update, so I am left to chase again, this time to management. Considering the upset we're already in and the additional lack of care/service we expected a quick response from the family business that promises 'to provide exceptional, personalised veterinary care from a trusted team'. Yet, I had to chase the management too, again on Wednesday 10th April. Finally get a response on 11th, apologising but no specific explanation regarding the whereabouts of the missing paw print/fur clippings and making excuses for all our concerns due to struggling since Anne passing. This was over 18 months ago and during this time Pet Practice has focused their efforts on expanding rather than addressing this failing Practice, focusing on quantity vs quality. This has become an uncompassionate, disorganised and greedy business (now 12 Practices and a drive for more) - there is no personal touch and/or compassion.
This has been very traumatic for us as and our young family, especially as like many, our pets are very much part of the family. We have now left and found a smaller local vets and so are others we have spoken to.

Wonderful support and assistance

From our first greeting with Megan and Ben our beloved cat Smudge was treated with love, respect and dignity at all times. Our visits with Arik, Tom and Theodora were all very supportive and explained clearly the treatment, the options and possible outcomes. Unfortuneately due to her severe illness we had to say goodbye. The whole team have been exceptionally kind, very supportive throughtout and also in assisting with our grief.

We would whole heartidly recommend them and wish to pass on our sincere thanks and deepest gratitude for the wonderful care and attention you showed to us and Smudge

Excellent value and excellent Vets.

I have used this practice twice now having been more than a little frustrated by other practices which seem to care more about their profits than about our pets! It has always been easy to make an appointment - today rang this morning and had an appointment for 9:45! Took my dog who had acquired a vomiting problem when eating. Vet quickly established what the problem was, gave an easy remedy, checked Marmite's eyes (that's the dog), explained he is developing cataracts but suggested that at his age shouldn't worry. Perhaps could lose a kilo or two (Marmite not the vet) but all is good. So peace of mind for us, vomiting cause established, quick health check - all for the princely sum of £50. Excellent value and excellent Vets.

No care for animals

This place is a total disgrace complete disregard for animal welfare we called yesterday with a sick animal and was told we have to wait over a week called back again saying we was new to the area and a new customer and was told they could see is the same day, how on earth does that work out. I would advise anyone who cares about my pet to stay well away from this company
