Heavily damaged product, poor customer service

I ordered the factory made Selvik Bastu from Polhus. When it arrived (from Estonia), it has major damage to it, including smashed front wood panels, part of the roof missing and tree parts still stuck in it. The driver had clearly hit a tree on the trip. The driver didn't even mention anything, when I asked him he just said "problem, don't worry they fix it" No apology. I spoke with Polhus customer service the next day, who seemed very helpful and said I could either get it repaired, which would take ages, or they will replace it with a new one from the factory. It's now been a month since it was delivered broken and I don't even have a date for the new delivery, despite chasing numerous times. The website states 4-6 weeks for a new order today, so clearly they've made absolutely no attempt to prioritize. I told them we had building work starting today and the sauna needed to be in place before as the lorry wouldn't be able to deliver. No response on that. It's a shame as the product looked good, but I would absolutely not recommend using them as if something goes wrong, the response is deeply unimpressive.

Update- replacement sauna arrived 6 weeks after the first broken one. The roof covering was heavily damaged and hanging off. It's now been 5 weeks since then and still no idea when they'll get it fixed. Honestly one of the worst companies i've ever dealt with- they couldn't care less about their customers. AVOID.

Excellent quality product, and responsive people on the phone or email.

Rob and Dave the carpenters were amazingly quick, tidy and professional, building our beautiful sauna in a little over a morning.

Straightforward process

Very simple process we ordered sauna with polhus and the Installation service, delivery date was confirmed and installation company contacted and arranged installation for the very next day, we are very happy we went with the installation service because it looked very hard manual work and this would have been to much for us, the guys that arrived were a very friendly team with lots of equipment that we would not have had, they have done a great job, left garden very tidy and our sauna looks amazing. Thank you all involved.

The products are not bad but....

The products are not bad, it is the management of the company. Parts arrived unannounced on a random week. Argument with driver claiming I needed a forklift. Dropped sauna in a unsuitable place so couldn't opened it immediately as needed protection from the rain. My installer noticed parts missing and heater damaged. Polhus decide to reimburse the heater and not to return (good decision). All this added £600 of extra labour charges as installer wasted time looking for items or trying to find a solution. Still not received missing parts since December 2024 albeit non critical to the function. Polhus refused any compensation! If you do use them, check, check and check again and don't expect good customer service or promises made.

A strong 4 stars from us

A strong 4 stars from us. We ordered a barrel sauna with wood fire coming in at around 5k back in August last year and have only just finished putting it all together due to having to deal with family illness.

Ordering was very simple and Polhus were really helpful with our delivery concerns.
Delivery was a bit difficult, but the driver was fantastic and patient as we sorted out trailers to get the stuff up our drive.
All the bits were there. The Harvia stove is exceptional quality.
The sauna took us about 3 days to put together in total. I would not recommend if you aren't used to building things as it was a bit of a challenge.
The instructions were reasonably good and we watched the videos too, but some photos of details might help as there are some bits left over relating to the stove - i think the stove is for a shed type, not a barrel, not to worry though..
We had a first sauna on Sunday and it was wonderful, there will be many more to enjoy!

Absolutely appalling service

Absolutely appalling service!

I spent 10K on a sauna with all the equipment from Polhus in August 2024. When it was delivered 4weeks later the delivery company they use dropped the pallet with all the eletrical parts and main sauna oven.
This has now led to an empty, non functioning sauna in mid winter (End Jan) when I was hoping to be using it the most!
The service throughout the process has been unacceptable and every time I have had to chase for answers and updates on the situation.
My advice if you are looking for a sauna, do not buy from Polhus.
You are better off getting it from a local supplier and source the oven yourself.
I am confident that I would have been better off building it myself from local timber and online sauna equipment suppliers for half the price.

Awful customer experience

Awful customer experience so far. Order process was easy and simple and Sauna was delivered in good time. This is where the good experience stops. The burner for the sauna arrived damaged however the outer packaging was still in good condition. Due to this Polhus first stance was to declare that we had damaged it taking it out of the box rather than admitting it had been damaged prior to being sent. After two weeks of emails they agreed that an £80 gesture of goodwill was sufficient. The burner package cost £1,700.....you do the maths! After more backwards and forwards they finally agreed to collect the damaged burner and re send a new one 10 days after the damage was reported. It then took a further 11 days for the damaged burner to be collected and refused to ship the new one until the collection had taken place. I then had to chase practically daily to see if it had been shipped. I was told it would be on the next truck out of Estonia 4 days after collection. Sadly this was not the case and i have been told today, 44 day since the damage was reported that the new burner has not even been shipped and wont be until earliest next week. The lack of desire to make good the issues in a timely manner has been ridiculous. For what is a expensive purchase you would expect the customer support to be fast and simple, but it has been anything but. We are now 70 days since our order was made and still no closer to having our sauna up and running. The product seems good but the way our issues have been handled has been atrocious. Think twice before ordering.

Additional note, the Harvia M3 Burner set is not compatible with the Barrel Sauna as the roof flashing seal is designed for a pitch roof and the internal finishing plate is designed for a flat ceiling rather than curved. If you are not bothered about the finish looking awful fine but if you are then you will need to purchase additional parts to make good.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused. The burner had a minor aesthetic imperfection, but it was fully functioning. To resolve the situation quickly, we offered you the option to purchase a new burner locally, with the assurance that you would be reimbursed for the cost. However, you chose to have a new one sent from our warehouse. We also agreed on compensation due to the delay during the holiday period.

Regarding the Harvia M3 burner, it is indeed compatible with the Barrel Sauna. The only adjustment needed is to trim the plate to fit the ceiling using sheet metal shears.

Great customer service

Great customer service, good quality product. Installion guys Arran Young and Dylan Bass were super friendly hard working, clean , tidy and very profressional. All in all a fantastic expereince with Polhus and especially the installion company CSL Construction who I'd throughly recommend for any type of exterior log cabin construction.

A* communication.

We Purchased the round barrel sauna and we couldn't be happier, The delivery arrangement's was easy and the installation communication was great, The team went above and beyond as my area was not ready for them as I was unwell the weekend I was suppose to be preparing the base area, this was no issue they moved everything picked up additional materials to ensure they could push on with the installation and they were very friendly chaps.

All in all i have a very pretty looking sauna now that I already love using, thanks to everyone involved.

Appalling customer service

Product (Timo sauna) was different to images on website, installation was appalling. One installer walked off site after a row with his colleague. When things go wrong the installers claim it’s supposed to be like that and the office in Sweden don’t want to know. I would not use them again. The guttering fell off the day after installation and the door doesn’t even stay closed - kind of essential for a sauna. Their customer service team throw everything back on the customer. Don’t expect them to put anything right as they won’t!

Svargard ICE BATH

It looks good and I’m sure will serve its purpose well. It was ridiculously hard to put together and also needed extra sealing due to leakage . The company were very helpful however with advice

Thank you for your feedback! Yes, the barrel can be a bit tricky to assemble, but a helpful tip is to keep a strap handy while assembling the sides and bottom—this will help keep the panels in place until you can attach the metal band.

It’s also worth mentioning that the barrel may leak before the wood swells from the water, much like an old wooden boat. I’m happy to hear that the extra sealing worked!

Jorma Sauna - great performance

The ordering and delivery were straight forward. There were a couple of small bits of timber missing but no great issue. The construction took a couple of days followed by treating the wood inside and out. Insulated the gaps around the windows and doors and the sauna reaches 50c in 45mins and 80c in 85mins using a surprisingly small amount of logs - very happy with the performance and have been using it every other day
