All you had to do was say there has been a delay its on its way, but no you had to send THAT email....

Pomona might want to review the standard email they are sending when customers are querying the status of their order. It’s quite rude, especially as it is making out that any customers querying an order is stupid and not reading delivery dates and are being unreasonable.

I actually ordered my plant in September not mid-November like the email claimed. In September the delivery date was November not Nov/Dec or later ( I would not have ordered a plant for delivery in December as the ground is frozen in December). I’m not stupid Ive got a post graduate degree I can read English and can understand dates and ranges of dates.
When I’m giving a date of November I have every right to check the status of my order when it has not been delivered and when I’ve not received any email or received any confirmation of the order (despite the claims of Pomona about having sent paperwork in the email).

Ive received the bush this morning which includes the detail that the order was made on the 23rd September. Sadly I wont be buying from Pomona again when i queried the delivery all they had to do was say “ Sorry there was a delay, the order is on its way”.

Reply from Pomona Fruits

Dear Mrs Gilbert

Both on our website and in our printed catalogue we say "Bare root fruit trees, soft fruit bushes, ornamental trees and hedging will be despatched from late November until late April." We go on to explain "Orders placed before mid November will usually be despatched by mid/late December."

You placed your order online on the 23rd September. At no point did we say your order would be despatched before the end of November and I can confirm the information has not changed since you placed your order (it is after all printed in our catalogue and the information we provide is the same every year). Bare root plants do not become dormant until the end of November/December so that is when we start lifting and despatching.

This same information was printed in the automated email that you so strongly object to. The email says "Orders placed before mid November will usually be despatched by mid/late December". You obviously misunderstood this sentence so let me clarify it for you. We are not saying that you placed your order in mid November. We are saying that if you have placed your order BEFORE mid November (so that includes customers that have ordered during the summer months) you will receive your plants by mid December. This is a very reasonable timescale given that many varieties are not ready for lifting until early December and the number of orders in the pipeline dating back to the early summer.

In a normal year we would answer every email personally. This year however is not a normal year. We have 3x the volume of enquiries and orders and as we only have a small office team working from home we are sending out an automated response that should answer any queries about delivery times. The email invites you to email us again with the words "2nd request" in the subject line if the automated response does not answer your query. You sent a second email on the 1st December complaining that you hadn't had a response to your first email (clearly you had because you are now complaining that it was an automated response!) and we responded to the second email on the same day advising you that the order was already on its way.

We really do not know why you are complaining. As it happens your order was despatched before the end of November so right at the beginning of the quoted delivery window. We have also responded to both of your emails promptly and provided the requested information. I have emailed you a copy of the extract in our brochure which shows you very clearly that delivery is from late November onwards, but you still choose to give us a totally unjustified poor review.

Best regards

Ordered three cordon trees

I received as a gift three cordon trees, very disappointed. Pomona suggest buying a book , I suggest they read it. The service was fine after I complained of the poor quality Pomona sent two more equally as bad. I then went to a local nursery who supplied me with trees half the price and unbelievably better.

My recent order for strawberry plants…

My recent order for strawberry plants arrived last weekend and I am delighted with the superb quality of the plants. In the past I have bought similar plants from a number of other suppliers, but I have never received ones as good as this. They are strong, very healthy and have very good roots. Included were very full and helpful cultural notes. I have heard very favourable reports of purchases by other gardeners and, on the basis of those and my own order, would recommend Pomona Fruits very highly.

Good stock and good advice

an apricot and six autumn fruiting raspberries bought in spring 2019 all all looking good and promising a year on.
Also, I recently asked for advice on other fruit I have had for years (not bought from Pomona) and I was grateful for sound advice. Thank you.

Thanks for the excellent service

In the last few years, I’ve purchased several apple trees from Pomona and I’m pleased to say that are all looking very good (Ashmead’s Kernel, Christmas Pippin and Pixie).
The strawberries that I’ve had have provided a bumper crop. These are the Malling Centenary and they have lived up to the catalogue description perfectly.
On several occasions, I have contacted Pomona Fruits for advice and have found staff to be very knowledgeable and accommodating.
Thank you

Recent order for blueberry plants

I have ordered plants, trees etc from Pomona Fruits for many years. Recently got 2 blueberry plants (on offer). These arrived last week and were very well packed with no damage. Good vigorous bushes with full cultural instructions enclosed. They we planted immediately and are now showing signs of new growth. Recommend this firm for all your fruit trees, soft fruit plants and accessories.

Asparagus crowns (plants)…

I ordered 12 asparagus crowns (plants) on 6th April and despite the pandemic they arrived on the 28th April. As suggested by Pomona, I soaked the plants and planted the day they arrived. Every plant has grown well, most already having a second stalk so I expect a good crop.

Great experience

Great experience - bought 12 strawberry plants which came a cropper because I used the wrong compost. Got advice from Ponoma Fruits plus replacement plants which I hope will thrive. Excellent service, will continue to place orders as I find them trustworthy.

Just ordered 4 blueberry bushes for my…

Just ordered 4 blueberry bushes for my allotment which arrived within days, well packaged and looked very healthy. I’d emailed for advice on types before ordering and got a really quick abc informed response, similarly I had a couple of queries about replanting and soil and they replied to my email in 24 hours and answered the phone. The people you get through to know their stuff.

At the start of lockdown I ordered asparagus crowns and despite the pandemic they replied to my phone call almost immediately and the crowns arrived exactly when estimated and look healthy.

Very positive exoeriebce, great service and great looking plants. Would recommend

Ordered 2 polo/bleu muscat grape vines…

Ordered 2 polo/bleu muscat grape vines and after two weeks wait which is understandable due to the current circumstances i recieved the wrong pair (phoenix/regent) ,I called multiple times and was promised that i could return them for the ones i ordered, was told i will recieve a call back but never did. Its been 3 days now since the delivery and the two vines i have are probably going to die due to the current heatwave, I feel im clearly being ignored really disappointed will definitely not order from here again.

So pleased with the service

So pleased with the service. After being badly let down by another nursery I couldn't fault Pomona. Great comms and speedy despatch of my strawberry plants. Highly recommended.

Good service but overpriced given what you get.

I would love to give more stars as, despite the current circumstances, the service has been good. But I have reduced the stars as I think the products are overpriced and oversold. I ordered 18 strawberry crowns and a tiered planter and 3 logo berry plants for £52 and £25 respectively. Neither of these was worth the money paid, particularly the strawberries - the plants are tiny and the planter is badly made.

Ordered 2 fig trees from Pomona

Ordered 2 fig trees from Pomona, arrived well packed, and were stored undrr cover in the bad weather. DOREE started sprouting early, looked good, but then noticed leaves were being eaten. I noticed several vine weevils on the plant at night, sprayed, but then found more on the floor around the plant. Checked the rootball, larvae found.
Treated with nematodes after replacing the soil, now growing well.
The second tree, Madeleine de deux Saison, also put out two shoots, which then shrivelled, but the stem also shrivelled from the top down.

Emailed Pomona, was asked to wait until June.
I cut back the diseased tissue, eventually one more shoot sprouted, but this also died.
Now promised a bare root tree in nov/dec ..Understand they have problems, as all nurseries and seed suppliers have with covid, but disappointed that I have lost a season.

Pomona have replaced the dead tree with an excellent new one. The original intent to supply a bare-root replacement was an error by one of their staff, as they do not supply bare-root fig trees.
Thanks to Claire for prompt action.

Upated rating, both trees doing well now, figlets on both.
