It was the best experience of my life. Throughout the whole journey I was provided with experiences and a lot of fun and guidance. The guidance started as soon as I signed up and the staff there the nicest people I’ve met. I made some good friends across the journey and learnt lifelong lesson.

An extremely great trip that allowed me to experience a new culture while learning more about medicine.

My grandmother passed away during my activity period, but the host family treated me like a family and gave me energy.
It was very nice that the weekend trip deepened my bond with other volunteers.

I went on the diving and marine conservation in Thailand for 2 weeks and we stayed on Koh Tao island. At first, we were a little unsure because of how different the living and the cultural food is but we all ended up having a blast. To compare Australia and Thailand with each other is a crazy difference and it opens up your views on everything.
The diving was INCREDIBLE, seeing all the marine life around us and being able to experience seeing all the coral was such a heartwarming experience. Our dive instructors were so incredibly nice and understanding with us all and made sure we were having fun while being safe on the island. Being able to connect with strangers from around the world was such a life-changing experience and we all connected so quickly and became very attached. The whole experience from start to finish was life-changing, it is something you have to do yourself to understand.
I would've done anything to stay there with everyone for just a little while longer but I was very excited to go home. Those memories are some that I will cherish forever and look back on at how much fun we all had, being able to stay in contact with everyone made the goodbye less hard but once we got off the ferry back in Koh Samui everyone was in tears. It was a very heartfelt moment.

The program was unbelievably organized and well run. We really enjoyed the work, all the people we met and truly felt like we contributed (instead of just feeling like we did). The place where we stayed was exactly as described and expected—sparse but generally clean and comfortable. Thank you for letting us be a part of something so special!

As soon as I arrived I was welcomed into Nepal and before I knew it I was making friends with people from around the world and learning so much about Medicine. The program offers opportunities that you would probably never get in Australia and it truly is an amazing eye-opening experience! The staff pre-departure and during the trip were also very supportive and knowledgeable! From observing in hospitals to learning how to suture to exploring the culture to visiting local schools to hiking and shopping at the traditional markets, it's definitely a program I'd recommend 😀

This project allowed me to look at life through a new perspective. I felt like I was seeing a new face of life.
From building friendships with those who were once strangers to experiencing live treatment and patient consultations at hospitals taught me a lot and geared me for my future studies

My previous accommodation with Projects Abroad was canceled by my institution days before I was scheduled to leave. When given the option of doing a different project, this company was incredibly flexible and was able to ensure all my needs were met to have a successful project. I truly loved my time in Arusha, Tanzania, and believe that this experience happened for a reason. I would not change it for the world!

Amazing staff and experience. Great for cultural immersion and observation in hospitals.

Having recently retired I was new to overseas volunteering - Projects Abroad were extremely well organised and very attentive to details to make this a truly life changing experience - their staff were hugely helpful, both before the project began and during our stay in Kathmandu. The opportunity to teach so many wonderful children and to meet their teachers is an opportunity not to be missed and I highly recommend Projects Abroad for your first experience.

Going to somewhere like the Galapagos islands was a life time dream, growing up watching Sir David Attenborough doing nature programs from the islands was amazing.
Then I had the opportunity and it didn't disappoint, the islands are still a developing community which will take time to satisfy some peoples needs. The wild life is absolutely amazing, with the help of the staff giving you the information you needed to understand the wild life.
Your project will at times be hard, hot but very rewarding, the information you also collect about sea lions and other animals is used for data bases around the world. The sea lions are classed as EN on the UN web site meaning these beautiful animals are endangered, the only way we can help them is doing survey's to ensure their numbers are monitored.
Then you have the islands which you can travel to, each island is only about a 2 hour boat trip. The opportunity to snorkel, dive, swim with these beautiful animals is breath taking, however it does take some getting use to seeing all of this in front of you.

The trip introduced all of us to a beautiful and unique environment. Being able to get fairly close to creatures that live in the wild is a rare and magic experience
It was very well organised. The staff were very helpful and caring, also very passionate about the area and try to improve life for the people as well as the wildlife

The project was well organised and a fantastic experience which I hope to repeat.
Everyone on the island made the volunteers welcome, and the activities were well planned and enjoyable.
The wildlife was amazing, and it was good to see a real commitment from the local people to the conservation of this beautiful island.
The only drawback was the accommodation but this is being addressed and improved.
Definitely would like to return to this island

I recently spent a week in Tanzania with projects abroad. I was initially supposed to be there for 4 weeks but a week was enough for me. Sports coaching was my role and the start of the trip was positive as I met the PA staff who inducted me and showed me around the city of Arusha. However, the placement didn’t live up to expectations as I was very idle during the day up until 3/4pm when training started. I knew office work would be part of the placement however it felt like I wasn’t needed in the office during the day. Lunchtime was spent on my own at the host family house for 2-3 hours. This definitely didn’t help to alleviate any homesickness that I had. I feel that any volunteer who wants to give their time should be kept busy especially in a new, challenging environment. The PA staff are helpful both prior to and during the trip, however the placement definitely disappointed in terms of what I expected, as I had the idea that I would be helping coach sport as much as possible rather than just 2-3 hours per day. This should be improved on in the future. The humanitarian, education and medical programmes in Arusha all seem really positive, it would be great if the sport programme could get to a similar level. The accommodation and host family were excellent and can’t speak highly enough of them. While I was disappointed with my experience, I learned a lot and would encourage anyone to try it and see if it’s for them.

Where to start?
Helpful, friendly and informative from the very first contact with Projects Abroad and this continued throughout the lead up to my stay and during it.
I am an older volunteer who came to Costa Rica to undertake childcare volunteering and it has been one of the best things I have ever done in my life.
Any questions I had were addressed quickly and accurately and despite an initial “crumbs, what have I done” on arrival I was immediately reassured on being met at the airport and taken to my hosts home.
My Projects Abroad contact Jessica was always available if needed and spent time with me to help me orientate myself. I cannot speak highly enough of her professionalism and friendliness.
My hosts were amazing and the food and accommodation was as described and I very quickly felt at home. Their kindness extended to taking me out with them on trips and including me in a family gathering.
My placement was at a children’s centre where the staff were hardworking and welcoming. I loved working with them and the children and I cherish the time I spent with them. Very happy memories that will last me, I know.
If you are looking to volunteer abroad then I can recommend Projects Abroad. If, like me, you are a mature person and wondering if it is for you, I would say do it! A rewarding, amazing experience. Thank you

My experience was wonderful, but all that made it so was the work I did with my organization and the relationships I made on my own. The price of the trip is beyond heinous when I consider the few services offered and the cost of living in my location. I understand that some might prefer to have the comfort of Projects Abroad support, but the cost is simply unbelievable. I can only imagine that a mere fraction (if that) of my payment went to my host for food and accommodation, which is essentially the only service from PA I needed.
The PA staff were friendly, and I have absolutely nothing against them. I simply think this is a capitalistic venture and anyone wanting to truly serve and have a memorable experience should get in touch directly with local non-profits to do so.

The Wildlife, local people, local amenities were fabulous.
Improvements could and should be made to the participant accommodation as it is in need of a total re-furbishment and certainly painted.
All in all a great experience.

This program was amazing! The staff was so helpful, and I learned an incredible amount during my 5 weeks in Peru. I got to explore the culture and historical sites, while also gaining hands on experience at the hospital I worked at.
