Mount Etna Sea to Summit Test Pilot…
Mount Etna Sea to Summit Test Pilot Trip
was a really well organised affair attended by rat race crew Collette, Patrick & James
The event had everything - beach start in the dark of night ( at a balmy 17degrees Celsius) running through quiet village streets, rural areas ,up through lovely woods with an unforgettable sunrise .
We then popped out of the woods/forest and a fantastic vista came into view - the majesty of Mount Etna and its barren slopes .
Having re-grouped at the ski centre , we walked up to altitude and had very experienced guides take us to the summit ( having checked that we were “well togged up” & handed us safety helmets)
It was a great day and the whole group ( who had bonded brilliantly over the weekend ) finished the day with a very nice celebratory meal at a fine local restaurant and a couple of drinks afterwards back at the lovely hotel the whole group had stayed at .
A great thanks to Collette, Patrick, James and the fellow rat race test pilots for a fabulous weekend and the fantastic memories I have from it.
If this does become an event in 2026 or 2027, just make sure you have a quick trigger finger on the entry button as this event would be sold out very quickly.
Best adventure events
Amazing events always so well organised. The teams always put in so much work behind tye scenes to make sure everyone has the best experience possible.
Test Pilot
Sicily Mount Etna Sea to Summit Test Pilot - wow what a weekend completing this test pilot, fantastic event, fantastic fellow Rat Racers. As always fully supported by the fantastic Rat Race crew who really do make a difference. Camaraderie, community spirit and plenty of laughs
Mount Etna Test Pilot
I’ve just completed the Mount Etna test pilot and what a fab experience, I’ve done a few Rat Races before but never a test pilot. It still has the same Rat Race spirit organisation and support but with an element of adventure because no one is quite sure if it’s all going to work! It did, the scenery was stunning, the route challenging but fun, we came across locked gates, overgrown paths and even a car crash but our fantastic little team worked together and with an awesome effort by everyone we made it to the top of Mount Etna. Collette, Patrick and James did a brilliant job as Rat Races crew acting as navigators, drivers, photographers making sure we were fed and watered and providing the best support when the going got tough. I really can’t recommend Rat Race Adventure enough, the sense of achievement and the friendships you make will last a lifetime time.
Rat race - the adventure team 👍🏼
I am a seasoned rat racer - never had a bad experience - always well set up and a great experience- if you are into adventure racing these are your guys 🙌🏽
Start to finish
Start to finish, excellent clear communication from Rat race team. participants safety always at forefront of decision making. Event flowed throughout the day allowing time to take in some of the spectacular moments.
Maltese Falcon 2025
The Maltese Falcon was a very challenging and worthwhile event. I thoroughly enjoyed the kayak portion and several locations throughout the course were picture postcard quality. Genuine thanks to Rob, Kirsten, Fi, and Seboliver for providing top notch support during the entire stay.

Fantastic event run by very welcoming and knowledgeable team. Great way to experience the country and meet new people and always felt support was just a message away.

Took part in Maltese Falcon 2025.
Booked almost a year in advance and paid monthly by direct debit . It was easy to book, easy to cover the cost and glad that was a secure option.
Everything was thought of in the run up and during the event. The accommodation, food and transport was really good. Clear and personal communication by the team who were all very friendly, experienced and professional . The Event itself was brilliant, great for the different levels of fitness and mental fortitude in a group of 38people. They work with a big group of partners on the islands to ensure the safety and accessibility of equipment. There was a wide range in the quality of bikes and I felt my bike was too old and so I couldn’t use all the gears, making it even more challenging,(I took my own gel seat and paddles), but that was the only aspect of the whole event which was 4star for me. The rest was 5star and I can recommend RatRace and the Maltese Falcon event with full confidence.
An amazing experience, as always!
Just back from an absolutely fantastic Maltese Falcon multisport. The whole event is extremely well thought out, from the first day getting to know your fellow racers to the all-you-can eat buffet and exuberant hotel to finish, I can’t fault it.
The route of the event is spectacular, too. Both land sections feature historical and cultural highlights along with some incredible landscapes and views.
Most importantly, the people make the event. Rob, Seb, Fi and Kirsten formed a well oiled machine that was encouraging, supportive and lots of fun. The camaraderie on this one was second to none - well done RatRace on a fabulous event.

What an amazing adventure we had with Rat Race! The team were brilliant, welcoming and importantly experienced enough to put our minds at ease. Already looking at our next adventure.
Great adventure
Great price point, very looked after and attentive detail from Rob and the team. Would definitely do another one. Thanks for great memories.

This is my 3rd event with Rat Race and as always, fantastic! The Isles Ultra was an epic adventure from the get go. What a fabulous way to see remote areas without a worry...Rat Race has YOU covered. I can not recommend their events enough! Life is short, sign up now and make memories for a lifetime
Isles Ultra
Just completed the Isles Ultra of the Outer Hebrides! What a great event. Have done a few events with Rat Race and love these small group ones the best. We were so well looked after by James, Jacq's and Jools (who I've been brilliantly looked after by before) and Emmi and Doc Luke doing such a great job, with Jimmy taking amazing photos!
The group was exceptional! It was reunion for some of us that did Run Britannia in 2023 and was great o be back out on the trails with those guys, but the whole group were fab, support between each other was fantastic and I came away with new friends.
Weather was a problem at times, with ferry crossings being cancelled, but James was on top of everything, and we knew going in, this could happen and there may have to be a plan b, c or beyond. We were still able to get a greats amount packed in, with additional options if we wanted them.
Its a tough event, but with the support its is achievable!
Felt great to be back doing a multi day event and I loved it! Thank you all
The Isles Ultra
The Isles Ultra was a bucket list adventure for me and I loved every minute of it.
I was nervous going into it since I’ve never run more than 3 ultras back to back but i needn’t have been. There was so much camaraderie and support across the participants and the crew couldn’t do enough for us. Everyone willed everyone else on to do as much as they could and I never felt alone.
We had some challenges with the weather to begin with resulting in ferry cancellations but the Race Director James took this in his stride, offering up options and alternatives.
We were well fed throughout and had great support from a medic and physio. The official photographer was also amazing and some of the pictures he’s already shared are a fitting reminder of the week … I look forward to seeing the rest.
The Outer Hebrides is beautiful and I would encourage anyone thinking about this to take the plunge and sign up … you won’t regret it
Experts in producing amazing experiences
I’ve taken part in a number of Rat Race events and without fail they’ve been fantastic: really well organised, challenging and fun, but without the over-competitive focus of some other events. Most recently I’ve completed the Isles Ultra - running the length of the Hebrides - and I’ve no doubt that this has been the best event of the lot.
Managing a trip like this must be a logistical nightmare, even before our weather/ferry challenges, but our event leader James handled it all so brilliantly and always with an amazing aura of calm. The rest of the crew were equally fantastic, producing huge amounts of tasty food/encouragement/jokes/hugs (but definitely not Compeed) whenever we needed them.
I had a variety of fears coming into this (injuries/prep/everyone else being super-elite athletes etc) but the Isles Ultra was one of the best things I’ve ever done, and a big part of that was down to the group dynamic. Whilst there were definitely some amazing athletes among us I never felt out of my depth and the camaraderie and group support was such a huge part of this. I’ve spent most of the journey home working out which event I want to do next (the list is long).
If you're on the fence about entering something like this, don’t hesitate - you absolutely should. I can't recommend it enough. Thank you so much Rat Race for a truly outstanding experience
What a fabulous event and a fabulous…
What a fabulous event and a fabulous crew. Well organised and lovely people. I am turning 60 next year and 18 months ago found it hard to tie my shoelaces without being out of breath. Last weekend I hiked 29km up 2500m of ascent and 7km down the next morning. The endorphins are still rushing around and we are already looking to sign up for our next event. You do need to train for these events. The only reason for not giving a full 5/5 is because the timings were such that one really did need to run where possible. Only hiking did mean the final timings for summitting were out of our reach. We would have been happy to start earlier than the runners! And the hotel beds weren’t great. The refuge bunk beds on the other hand were fabulous 😃. But overall what an amazing experience. Thank you Ratrace crew. I would highly recommend.
Sea to Summit Greece - Do it!!
What an incredible event. The crew led by the amazing Abbi were hust phenomenal, worked non stop but always smiling, enthusiastic and full of encouragement.
The setting was beautiful, crystal clear water, sunshine and topping up the tan.
Ok no one wants to get up at 1.30am but the excitement made it worth it. The day is split into 4 sections by the different pit stops which really helps mentally with a long day on your feet.
I loved it, the amazing views round every corner, the inspirational people you meet and the sunrise after a night sleeping at 2100m was incredible.
My first rat race but I will definitely be back for more, huge thanks to Abbi and her team for making it an unforgettable experience.
A memorable and rewarding challenge
Abbi and the team were incredibly attentive, professional, kind, and full of encouragement throughout the Olympus Sea to Summit experience. Their energy and support helped carry us through a long and demanding day.
At times, the instructions could have been clearer (do we have to summit as a group or as individual packs), which led to a bit of uncertainty. The accommodation was basic but functional, and served its purpose well.
The event itself wasn’t a traditional race—more of a semi-competitive run/trek, with some flexibility that allowed participants to skip certain sections. Despite that, it was a true test of willpower and determination, starting at 1am and continuing through to sunset.
Overall, a unique and unforgettable adventure. Thank you to the whole team!!
Greece Sea to Summit was great
I have done a UK events with Rat Race and they have always been great so I decided to give their Greece Sea to Summit a try. It was great. Fully tracked, great locations, great routes and great support.
It is still hard. The event pushed me to my limits but I would recommend them to anyone looking for an adventure.
