I Regret Ever Choosing RBC
I Regret Ever Choosing RBC — Here’s Why.
I proactively visited an RBC branch in early June to renew my credit card — a full month before expiry. I booked an appointment, spent over an hour, and was told everything was handled.
Today is June 25 — my card expires in 2 days. I still haven’t received anything.
All I’ve been told is that “it was sent on June 5.” No tracking. No confirmation. No notification of any kind. If delivery failed — why wasn’t I informed?
This is not just poor service — it’s operational negligence.
Ironically, I still receive constant marketing spam from RBC encouraging me to open new accounts. Yet they can’t fulfill a basic renewal process?
I expect RBC to:
• Provide my card immediately via branch or in-person pickup
• Compensate for wasted time, stress, and inconvenience
If this is what “Canada’s top bank” offers, it’s a serious red flag.
Back-dating payment due dates
RBC in their mobile app consistently showed my VISA credit card's payment due date as of June 2, 2025.
To my surprise on June 9 I saw the interest transaction.
For any inquiries that I made I received only one answer: Our PDF statement says you had May 28th as the payment due date, hence you have a late payment.
(Where I paid around 30-31st.)
RBC at their branch at Lake Shore & Park Lawn verbally acknowledged that they can "adjust the due date" based on when your payment was made O_O.
I escalated this up to their Client Care department and it's been a week and I still cannot get any competent answer.
RBC Manipulates Customers
I was an HSBC customer when RBC bought out that bank. I was automatically switched to Royal Bank accounts, credit card, the works.
I didn't want to bank with RBC, and I called and told them to close all of my accounts. They told me to go to my branch. I told them I have Parkinson's Disease and they begrudgingly said they'd close my accounts. But I still get phone messages telling me to login and check my account(s). These people couldn't manage a piss up in a brewery.
This weekend, I gave my nephew a $12,000 cheque to pay of his loan, and I wrote a cheque but used the wrong chequebook and the cheque was refused. Okay, I made that mistake, I know its my fault, and he contacted the bank and explained this to them and gave them a bank draft to cover the amount. RBC charged him 27 dollars. Okay. A bit steep but I made the mistake so I paid that back to him. He got paid the day after he deposited the cheque I gave him and the next day, Royal Bank completely froze his account. No warning and they won't do anything to help him. He even asked how much the penalty is to close the account (because they gave him an Apple Watch to sign up) and they refused to discuss it with him until the draft I gave him clears.
What a bunch of idiots. No wonder they have to give away free Apple products to get you to open an account with them. Nobody would if they didn't get that, and it locks you in for over a year so you can't leave.
DON'T SIGN UP WITH ROYAL BANK. Please learn from my mistakes
Incompetence and Arrogance: RBC’s Shocking Customer Abuse…
My experience with RBC was a nightmare that dragged on for over a year, causing ongoing stress for me and my family. This bank operates with shocking incompetence, cruelty, and a complete abuse of power against its customers. Their staff are rude, untrained, and utterly incapable of handling even basic tasks with professionalism or care.
I was treated with contempt, ignored, and forced to fight just to close my own account something that should take minutes, not a year of suffering. RBC doesn’t just lack customer service it’s a place where deliberate mistreatment and institutional arrogance are the norm. Disgraceful.
Outstanding Service from RBC: Recovered $11,650 Scammed on VRBO!
I recently endured a nightmare scenario trying to rent a condo in Ft. Lauderdale through VRBO. I paid the host $11,650 USD via the VRBO website, only to discover the host was a complete scam artist who vanished with my money. Despite paying through VRBO's platform and immediately reporting the fraud, VRBO offered virtually no help or recourse. I felt helpless and devastated, facing a massive financial loss.
In desperation, I contacted RBC and filed a dispute for the transaction, explaining the entire fraudulent situation. The process was straightforward, and the RBC representative handling my case was empathetic and professional. They clearly understood the gravity of the situation.
RBC VISA DISPUTE TEAM CAME THROUGH! After a thorough investigation, RBC successfully recovered and refunded the entire $11,650 USD to my account. RBC's Visa dispute process worked flawlessly where the merchant platform (VRBO) completely failed. This highlights the critical importance of using a credit card with strong fraud protection for large purchases.
It's shocking that VRBO, the platform facilitating the payment and hosting the fraudulent listing, provided no meaningful assistance. Their lack of action forced me to rely solely on my bank's protections. Thankfully, RBC was up to the task.
It's worst experience with a bank ever
It's worst experience with a bank ever, can not even make a simple payment, can not even get to customer service, I was over 20 years, would defiantly transferring my account to other bank.
Bad Customer Service
This morning around 9:00 my wife called RBC Visa trying to report 3 disputed transactions. The total amount is only $63($21 x 3). Instead of trying to find out what happened, the customer service lady asked too many security questions including the time she last used her VISA and her debit card number. During the whole process the customer service lady was impatient and rude and threatened at least 4 times to disconnect the call. At the end the customer service lady tilde my wife that she would refer the case to the so called Fraud Department. My wife felt like she was treated like a criminal and is still upset.

One-Star Review for RBC
Trying to talk to an actual human at RBC is like trying to summon a unicorn during a thunderstorm, impossible and slightly insulting. I called in with a simple question, only to be greeted by their overly confident robot gatekeeper, who clearly hates humans. After looping through the same lifeless prompts for 10 minutes, it just hung up on me like I was the problem.
RBC, if you're going to replace your customer service with AI, at least make sure it knows how not to rage-quit mid-call. I'd have better luck yelling my questions into a toaster. Absolutely infuriating.
RBC- M/C Customer Service
Hello All,
I would like everyone to be aware of the online purchase I made using my credit card for the payment. I used my RBC M/C to pay for the travel tickets from eDreams last June 2024. I booked the tickets on their website and agreed to pay the total quoted in CAD funds. Within 3 days later, I checked my RBC M/C balance, and I was shocked. It showed that I was charged in USD with the currency exchange amounting to more than half of my monthly credit limit. Due to the Credit Card transaction size and online origin, the transaction should have been flagged, paused and sent to my attention for final review and confirmation, which would have allowed me to recognize the incorrect amount and cancel the transaction ahead of time before it was posted to my credit card. RBC did not send any fraud alert or transaction review to my attention in advance of the charge at all and they simply allowed the charge to go through and be posted against my credit card, no questions asked.
Within 3 days I called the RBC M/C Credit Department to dispute the amount of the transaction that I did not recognize. The amount charged was over a half of my monthly credit limit and the customer service representatives from RBC M/C Credit Department proceeded to redirect me over and over from one person to another person for a total of 12 people leading to a call duration of over 3 hours and 45 minutes, after which there was no resolution to this issue. The call was a futile mess, a massive waste of my time and did not result in a fair resolution to my issue. Finally, I was able to submit a transaction dispute request regarding this overcharge on the RBC banking website however the request was denied.
RBC M/C refused to dispute that transaction for the difference of currency of $2,000 and forced me to pay that amount plus interest. They also withdrew an amount directly from my RBC banking account without any authorization and notice.
Based on my experience, I would like to inform you to be aware that RBC M/C and RBC banking is not secure. They do not flag large online charges for the customer review and do not protect their cardholders from online charge abuse. They also will freely access your bank accounts to pay for all "charges" on their credit cards.
Thanks so much for your time to review my issue.

his is my second review as the first…
This is my second review as the first one was deleted and not by me. The best advise I can give is to tell everyone not to bank with rbc unless they want headaches along with not having acsess to your money. My account was working fine until 1 day i woke up and I couldn't log on online so I called the card. They kept hanging up on me and said they don't know whats going on. I can't use my account and this is the only one inhave. They can't release the money or allow me to close my account. I need 2 pieces of ID and unfortunately I only have my drivers license, health card, SIN, credit cards with other banks with my name on it, mail as well as answers to all my security questions but that is not enough. How can I get a passport without money????
RBC is the worst bank do not trust them
RBC is the worst bank do not bank with them..Iam a pensioner and they blocked my acct for no reason right on my payment date..... I couldnt get to see my bal even let alone getting withdrawal..so I spoke to the mgr she said my acct will be blocked and I cant withdraw any funds to even buy grocery or anything.
I then complained to ombudsman so I finally got my partial pension funds yesterday apr, 4th..
rbc still holding my $1200 and other benefits funds. theyre thugs cheat you. do not trust them,
I will fight to get the rest of my funds they cannot hold my money.
RBC can't be trusted anymore
RBC can't be trusted anymore. They introduced their high e-saving account account to me. When I saved money on the account, they didn't give me interest. What a tricky thing RBC is doing!
Worst customer service
Horrible customer service. Spoke with five different agents, none of any help, regarding fraud charge. After hours of being transferred and over 2 hours total on hold, no resolution.
RBC is just outdated and their…
RBC is just outdated and their tech-solutions are unreliable. I have always had automatic credit card payments on. Suddenly one month this did not happen, I was charged interest, my credit score may have been impacted, and I had to turn the setting back on in the app.
RBC has become a sh*t show
RBC has become a sh*t show! Their fraud department is rude and hangs up on you for no reason. I work for a company and I called to ask a question regarding a visa that was lost in the mail. The guy was so rude and arrogant and I went to put my boss on the phone and he hung up. I have a job to do as I'm the office manager and that involves me to do the leg work (make phone calls, set up phone calls etc) for the owner. These people in the fraud department act like they are the FBI, arrogant and have no customer service skills what so ever. Literally one second from handing the phone from me to the owner and he hung up. And in the end nothing got resolved.
After being a customer for decades they…
After being a customer for decades they charged me $7 for somebody who bounced their cheque to me. So now I’m out the bounced cheque and am charged by RBC for it by no fault of my own. Changing to Scotiabank Friday.
Worst bank ever
This must be the worst bank ever. I opened my savings accounts online, never got a card or pin and now I am at the point I cannot do an Interac transfer as it is asking for a PIN that I never got. Calling the customer service, they are helpless too. Apparently one needs to go in branch. I would probably go in branch if I hadn't spent 3 hours of my time in a previous visit where they still were not able to help me (transfer funds from EUR to CAD account within RBC).
If you ever consider this bank, run, just run, don't deal with them!
Fun time
Fun time! Had my number stolen on my company’s card in late August. Reported it and card was closed. When talking to rep was told to go to local bank to report all extra charges. Rbc was clueless in helping me it the tiller did try. 3 weeks later start all again with another bank associate witch was also a waste of time. 3 weeks later finally got a employee that was able to get something done and a new card ordered. 4 days after that my son noticed unusual activity on his card and called to have it shut down for safety reasons. But instead of closing his card they cancelled my new company card that was on order. Now it’s February and l not able to get a card on my account or access my Avion points, 750,000 of them.
Did finally get some after banging my head on a wall, or that’s what it felt like. Like l said “oh what fun”
