Avoid at all costs

I would strongly advise anyone to think carefully before using this garage and to seek a second opinion before agreeing to any major work.

I took my vehicle in for diagnosis and repair and what should have been a straightforward process quickly turned into a dispute. The diagnosis kept changing, key issues were only raised much later in the process, and this happened after money had already been paid. It felt disorganised, reactive and completely lacking transparency.
Communication was consistently poor. Costs kept increasing for parts and storage fees. Instead of clear explanations and accountability, I was met with vague updates and shifting information.

I was left £1000s out of pocket and an a vehicle that didn't work after 1 year.

Currently in dispute with this company

Currently in dispute with this company. Communication is extremely poor — I rarely receive responses, so it feels like I’m talking to myself.

My car was returned to me after a new engine was fitted at a cost of £5,000, but it was clearly incomplete. I was told I needed a new fuel pump, though they said a reconditioned one would be “fine for the time being.” When I collected the vehicle, the engine noise was horrific. I was assured it would settle down — it never did. At idle, the car jerked violently, and both issues only worsened over time.

I haven’t driven the car much since, yet an oil sensor warning has now appeared. I had the vehicle inspected by a highly skilled independent mechanic, who confirmed the issue is timing chain related, meaning the engine needs to be stripped again. This defect is entirely the responsibility of Recon Engines Ltd.

They have been provided with a professional report clearly outlining the fault, yet they continue to ignore me and refuse to resolve the issue. As a result, I am now forced to pursue legal action to recover the £5,000 I paid.

This situation has had a serious impact on my work, as I rely on my vehicle to transport equipment. It has also significantly affected my mental health due to the stress and uncertainty.

For context, my car was with them from the second week of June 2025 until 1st August 2025. I genuinely expected a properly rebuilt engine with no major issues. Sadly, that expectation was completely wrong.

Awful experience. Awful service. Please avoid this company.

AVOID

Sent the car to them, took months to get the car back with little by way of updates and the car was returned twice with exactly the same problem it went to them with after having spent considerably more than they originally quoted. AVOID AT ANY COST!!

Inflated price and failure to honour warranty

Engine reconditioning was advertised for £2K but once they had my car they found a further £4K of parts which they said needed replacing. No way of checking, and once they have the vehicle disassembled it is effectively held hostage. Their T's & C's are ambiguous, and they used a minor misunderstanding about these to avoid rectifying a fault which occurred under the warranty period.

I can recommend this company to others

I can recommend this company to others. They did a good work to my car although the initial cost has increased considerably. The delivery was also about 1 month late. However I was updated on others defects found after the engine was fitted and during driving tests. The service can be improved with good communication with customers and honest pricing , VAT details before customer commitment.

Warning………..Do not go near these…

Warning………..Do not go near these people. It took months to get my car back and when I got it back it had nothing in the petrol tank and a flat battery. I was also told that I would have to return it for two further services within six months that I would have to pay further for. Honestly, go somewhere else.

BMW M4 Rebuild

My BMW M4 engine was costing £32k to be done by BMW but recon engines expert were able to complete the job fully fitted for £13k which was a massive saving. The car runs lovely and is back on the road now, very pleased with the works.
