Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 1,200 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Customers frequently encountered significant delays during car collection, with many reporting long queues and inefficient service processes. People were also dissatisfied with unexpected charges, including fuel deposits and additional insurance, which often led to higher costs than anticipated. Furthermore, many received vehicles that were not as booked, such as lower category cars or those with pre-existing damage and mechanical issues. However, some customers also noted good value for money on rentals, with a few people reporting quick car collection and receiving good quality vehicles. While some reviewers found the staff unhelpful and unprofessional, others experienced friendly and helpful service, with issues being resolved without fuss.

They lie to you and don’t respond to emails.

Car had a puncture when I was at a wedding. I had the top level coverage. They came to pick up the car and expected me to get a taxi back to airport to pick up a new car. ( 3 hour round trip) when I was at a wedding and leaving at 4am in the morning. I explained this to a man on the phone who said it’s fine for me to get a taxi in the morning to the airport because they took the car and I didn’t want to miss wedding and Just to keep hold of receipts for the taxi. When I’ve got back home to the UK, Recordgo have told me they won’t be covering the taxi to airport even though I didn’t have a car I paid for. They also said I had the wrong coverage and used contractual jargon on me even though I had comfort plus. So all in all I out of pocket for one day of no car and €220 euro taxi fair. They don’t respond back to emails and think they can just get away with not responding me to. I’ve used them a few times now but never ever again will I use again. They left me and my young kids stranded expecting me to take a 3 hour round trip back to the airport to collect a new car for less than 12 hours and I’m not €220 euro out of pocket and I can’t feed my kids.

Absolutely terrible customer service…

Absolutely terrible customer service from start to finish.

Avoid this company if you expect even the most basic level of support.

We accidentally left a few personal belongings in the rental car and quickly tried to contact them. There is no working customer service phone number, and getting hold of anyone is almost impossible. The staff at the Ibiza office were completely uninterested in helping and showed no empathy or willingness to assist.

To make things worse, Booking.com and the rental company seem completely disconnected. Each blames the other, and neither is willing to take responsibility or resolve even the simplest issue. As the customer, you’re left going in circles with no solution.

Customer service appears to be an afterthought. Once you’ve paid and returned the car, they simply don’t care anymore.

I would strongly recommend choosing a different rental company—one that values its customers and provides proper support when something goes wrong.

DO NOT USE

DO NOT USE!
We landed into Malaga and tried using the Record machines to access our pre paid booking only to be told that I couldn’t use the machine because I didn’t have an express booking and was pushed away. The staff member was very rude. I took a ticket and waited to be seen. Our ticket was number 150 and they were only on customer 86! 2 hours later they were on 92! We ended up going to Hertz when the lovely staff helped us and got us on our way with a car. Yes, we paid again but I don’t think we would have been seen that day with Record as each person was taking 1/2 per booking.
They are cheap for a reason, you pay for what you get. AVOID!

The worst car rental agency I have…

The worst car rental agency I have dealt with in 26 years of renting cars at Barcelona airport. Aggressive and unknowledgeable staff. Avoid at all costs. There is a reason they say you get what you pay for and this place proves it. Go with more reputable and reliable agencies, Europcar, Avis, Hertz, Budget, anyone better than these guys.

I rented a car from Record Go in Madrid…

I rented a car from Record Go in Madrid on July 3rd, and it turned out to be one of the worst car rental experiences I’ve had. The air conditioning was broken from the very first moment and never worked properly for the ENTIRE trip. We reported the issue immediately during the rental period — and Record Go did absolutely nothing about it. No replacement vehicle, no fix, no compensation, no real response at all.

Being stuck driving for hours with no AC isn’t just uncomfortable — it’s exhausting, it affects visibility and focus behind the wheel, and it turns a trip into an ordeal, especially with long drives or hot summer weather in Spain. We paid full price for a vehicle that didn’t meet the most basic standard of service, and Record Go showed a complete lack of responsibility when we raised the issue on the spot.

If you’re considering renting from Record Go in Madrid or anywhere else, think twice. Paying for a service and getting ignored when something goes wrong is simply not acceptable. I would not rent from them again, and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who values a reliable, functioning vehicle and basic customer service.

this is the worst car rental ever

this is the worst car rental ever. There were many unexpected fees, we were asked to deposit $2000 on top of a requirement of having an international drivers license. I recommend booking with any other car rental service just not that one.

Unexplained charge to credit card

Rental went without a hitch, fuel deposit returned and deposit released quickly but received a charge to my credit card of over 200 euros with no explanation. Raised a case with the company (case number 1088430) but still no response over a week later.

Frustrating experience at Malaga airport

We've hired cars from RecordGo several times now, taking advantage of their special deals which seem to appear on Sundays. We also belong to the RecordGo Club which offers an additional discount on any rental, so we have no complaints about the prices we have paid. We have been fairly satisfied with our experience of renting from them at Palma airport, Mallorca.

Our recent experience at Malaga airport, however, was totally different. We were arriving there late in the evening, so chose RecordGo as they are based in the airport itself, rather than having to go offsite to collect a car. Although there were only about 4 people waiting it took us 45 minutes or more before we were processed: we can't understand why it takes so long for each customer to be allocated a car. While we were waiting the number of agents at the desks was actually reduced. The car itself seemed okay although there were remnants of something still stuck on the windscreen. The next day, however, a warning light came on to say one of the tyres was low on pressure. We wondered about a possible puncture but when we went to a garage we found all of the tyres were underinflated. They obviously had not been checked before we collected the car.
Returning the car at the end of the holiday, we had no advice on what to do apart from signs telling us where to park it. No one came to check it and there was no information about what to do with the key. In the end we went to the office in the garage area and just handed it over to someone behind the desk.
As it turned out, there was no problem with the petrol price being refunded or any charge being made for supposed damage, but we are used to hire cars being checked while we are present so were unhappy about just walking away without confirmation that everything is okay.
Overall, therefore, our experience at Malaga compared unfavourably with that at Palma. The rating given is based on the two different cases.

Strongly recommend RecordGo car rental at Las Palmas airport Gran Canaria - Edgar sorted out quickly, clearly, and at a great price. He was friendly, professional and the car we hired was in excellent condition. Return was the same, contract closed, no fuss, no messing, just a great service at a competitive price. Thanks Edgar!

Do not go near this company

Do not go near this company, my experience has been absolutely terrible, I have rented cars from airports from all over Europe and the USA, and have never saw anything like this, the whole thing stank from start to finish, but especially at drop off where the woman doing the check pointed out a tiny scratch on the paintwork, and a mark over the wheel arch, which I disputed was us but she picked up on the fact we were running a bit late, told us not to worry, just to make sure we caught our flight and she’d be in touch by email, when I arrived home and read the email she has added on all sorts of other damage, which she never pointed out on the final check. We are currently disputing this and seeking legal action, they even tried to charge me for a full tank of petrol, but when I showed them the receipt from petrol station 2 minutes away, they backed off that claim. This is a scam company as reported in other reviews, they offer you cheap rates but try to scam the money out you through other means, if I had caused the damage they said I had I would pay up, but in nearly 30 years of hiring cars I have never ever had to pay for any damage, STAY AWAY.

Charged 120eur for returning full-fueled car

This has been one of the worst car rental experiences I've ever had.

I returned the car with a full tank, exactly as required by the rental agreement. Before leaving, your employee confirmed that everything was fine, there were no issues with the vehicle, and that my full security deposit would be released. At no point was I told there was any problem with the fuel level.

A few days later, I was shocked to receive two invoices totaling €119.98 for a fuel charge and a refueling service fee. I have a fuel receipt proving that I filled the full tank before returning the vehicle. I took car with 806km or fuel and returned with 812km of fuel!!!

I contacted customer support immediately to dispute these charges, but they have completely ignored my messages. Charging customers after telling them everything is fine, and then refusing to respond, is unacceptable.

From my experience, this looks like a deceptive business practice. If you rent from Record Go, keep every receipt, photograph the fuel gauge and the car at return, and check your bank account carefully after your trip. Otherwise, you may find unexpected charges on your card days later with no explanation and no response from customer service.

Unless Record Go provides clear evidence that these charges are justified and refunds the money, I cannot recommend this company to anyone.

Refused to provide a car with non-EU driving license and do not respond to emails where I ask for a refund

After I came to their office in Bergamo, they refused to provide me with a car because my driver's license is non-EU-issued and I didn't have an international driving license. It was not stated when making the reservation on their website. It was only mentioned in their super-long Terms & Conditions, which no one ever reads. I took a shuttle back to the airport and rented from a different company without any issues, but with a price x2 because it was a booking for the same day and not so many options were available. At the desk, they didn't provide a written refusal or offer a refund. They told me to contact their support by email, but they have not responded yet.
This part with a non-EU-issued driving license looks like a scam so far

Record Go is an absolute scam and you…

Record Go is an absolute scam and you should expect horrible customer service.

On pick up, it took me 2.5 hours from arriving in the airport line till I had the car. (Even after given a car, there were a lot more problems because they gave me a car I didn't book, that was too large, and so ended up having to accept a car that hadn't been cleaned and smelled of cigarettes).

The worst was that when I dropped off the car with a full tank of gas that I filled up at the gas station next to the airport, I was told everything was fine. An hour later I received an email saying I hadn't left a full tank of gas and they were charging me 110 Euros. I even have a receipt for the gas I paid for and they know the vehicle was only driven 300km.

There is hardly any way to contact them to dispute this. I spent hours calling numbers that never get to a human. I've sent many emails to the email addresses that Record Go say we should contact for disputes.

THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM.

Everything was great

Everything was great. We booked OPEL, but got GM, which was a bit weak when driving in the road serpentine conditions in Sicily, but still manageable. So car was more or less ok. Regarding service - ALL 5 stars ! Easy pick-up and extremely easy drop-off. So, overall - 5 stars.

I was pleased with the service from Mr

I was pleased with the service from Mr. Mauro, if I'm not mistaken, he was very attentive and friendly. There's one drawback, however, that in the middle of June they only have one van operating. I also went in March and the situation was the same. The problem is the lack of organization; when the van arrives, all the customers want to get in, they don't respect those who are already waiting, and it's stressful. The driver says he can't do anything! It's very unpleasant to wait a long time 😡 whether for a short or long period, I use Record Go 👍

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with RecordGo and would not rent from them again. When I returned my vehicle, an employee falsely claimed I had caused damage to the car. This was completely incorrect — I was not involved in any accident or collision during the rental period.

Fortunately, I had taken photos of the vehicle before leaving the parking lot. These photos clearly show that the dent they accused me of causing was already present at pickup, even though it was not properly recorded in their inspection report. I provided both the timestamped photo from before the rental and the photo taken at return, showing the exact same pre‑existing damage.

Despite this evidence, RecordGo charged me 288.48€ for damage I did not cause. I have formally disputed the charge and requested reimbursement.

A rental company should operate with transparency and accuracy. Based on my experience, RecordGo failed to do so. I strongly recommend that anyone renting from them take detailed photos of the vehicle before leaving the lot — and be prepared for potential issues during the return process.

Worst experience I have ever had.

Worst experience I have ever had.
I collected the car on Thursday, the 25th, after waiting for 1 hour and 30 minutes. When I finally managed to speak with a support representative, she seemed more concerned about the key drop-off process than helping me with my issue. I politely asked her to please focus on my case, but instead, another colleague intervened and became upset with me. She even asked if I wanted to work behind the desk. I replied that I would gladly do so, as I believed I could provide better customer service.
My rental agreement was due to end on the 27th. We had traveled to Alicante, specifically La Nucía, to attend the biggest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Spain. This competition meant a great deal to us, and participating was extremely important.
After arriving in La Nucía, following a six-hour drive from Málaga with breaks, I discovered that my child was not scheduled to compete until the following day, the 28th. I immediately contacted Record Go and spoke with two different customer service representatives, asking if it would be possible to extend the rental. Both representatives refused, and no alternative solutions were offered.
I asked whether someone else could come on my behalf to extend the contract, but this was not allowed. I then suggested returning the car to the nearest Record Go office, renting another vehicle there, and returning it to Málaga the next day. This was also refused.
I even asked what the penalty would be if I returned the vehicle late, as I was prepared to pay an additional fee. My main concern was whether the car would be reported as missing before 24 hours had passed, since we would have returned before then. However, customer service could not provide any guarantees or clear information. One representative even said that the vehicle might already be reserved for another customer, but she was unwilling to check this for me.
As a result, I had no choice but to drive all the way back to Málaga Airport. When I arrived, it took another hour before I could speak to anyone. There were many frustrated customers, and the service was extremely slow. We were not assisted until my eight-year-old child started crying. I explained that we had driven a very long distance and needed to return quickly for the competition.
At that point, the staff asked if I wanted to rent exactly the same car again. I was extremely frustrated because this was precisely the information I had asked customer service to verify before I made the long drive back. Unfortunately, no one was willing to help.
I am deeply disappointed by the lack of support and flexibility shown throughout this experience. I proposed several reasonable solutions, yet none of them were considered. Because of this, I had to drive an additional 1,000 kilometers unnecessarily and spend approximately €140 on fuel.
In addition, the fuel level was inconsistent. The vehicle was delivered with an estimated range of 582 km, while after refueling, it showed approximately 650 km, despite the fact that I had already driven some distance away from the airport.
I cannot recommend Record Go to anyone based on this experience. This has been, without question, the worst car rental experience I have ever had.
I would like to request compensation for the additional costs and inconvenience caused. I also intend to share my experience through online reviews
