Avoid Rinnai - Outdoor Unit Failed in Under a Year
My retired father (on a disability pension) had a Rinnai B16 outdoor hot water system installed professionally as part of a “premium” granny flat from Same Day Granny Flats in mid-2024. Less than a year later, the unit failed completely due to ant infestation. Rinnai refused to cover it under warranty and charged $380 for a technician callout—that’s a full week’s pension gone.
This was an outdoor unit, installed by a licensed plumber, in a completely normal Queensland environment where ants are common. A brand like Rinnai should build appliances that can handle local conditions, especially when marketed as reliable and long-lasting.
Terrible customer service, no compassion, no accountability. We’ll never use Rinnai again—and others should think twice.
