I ordered a manual recliner chair from Rooms Furniture Keighley.
I wanted a manual recliner chair with dual controls, looked at and sat in several chairs, specifically stated I needed dual controls because of my painful neck and back problems,
Joanne the sales lady several times tried to persuade me and guide me towards the electric recliners, I said I have got an electric Sherborne recliner it’s 20 years old and this time I want a manual one, one where It doesn’t have to be plugged into the socket all the time, meantime she is telling me about the nasty customers who come in, life, the universe, Covid, just about everything and I did feel she wasn’t listening to my needs she talked too much about everything else.
Chose a chair, specifically reiterated dual controls
The chair arrived
The side of the chair has got a very sharp industrial staple sticking out, I have cut myself quite badly on it and bled a lot, this was a shock and a really upsetting experience and I would not have expected the quality or the workmanship of this chair to be poor considering how much it cost.
Also, very importantly, this is not the chair I wanted, needed nor asked for, I said I wanted a manual one with dual controls, I explained I have got serious very painful back and neck problems and the chair needs to be easy for me to relax in and get in and out of, the lady assured me the chair would be like that one there with dual controls, the chair in the showroom wasn’t a Sherborne as they didn’t have a small Sherborne but you could order it and it would be up to 16 weeks.
The chair delivered to me has not got dual controls, to get it to recline requires for the back of the chair to be pushed back with quite a lot of force with the persons back it’s a cantelever strong spring and it is painful to do it, while in the reclined position the back of the chair constantly is putting a lot of pressure on my spine and neck as I have to keep the force of the pressure on the back of the chair as it is constantly pushing me forward making it impossible for me to be able to relax in .
16th Sept. Two telephone calls to the shop with assurances Andrew would ring me back, he never did.
I emailed them twice on different days saying I was rejecting the chair and I would like my money back also got completely ignored.
I phoned again today 30th Sept, I was very polite and asked if we could please sort this problem out, Andrew was not interested plus he said he knew nothing about it, he was angry, very abrupt and rude.
He got Joanne the sales lady to ring me back, she was insistent I got what I ordered, I knew I hadn’t , she said she would have a word with Andrew and ask if they could come and pick the chair up, phoned me back said Andrew said no and he wasn’t prepared to do anything about it.
Andrew at Rooms furniture has left me no option now other than going down the legal route to reclaim my money.
EDIT
January 2023. I did get my money back I got it back via my bank. My Son telephoned Roomsfurniture to ask if they wanted the chair back, they then came to collect it and I insisted they bring a receipt as proof of collection, the receipt was headed “Fosters furniture, 2 Brick Street, Keighley”, as the owners last name is Foster then it looks like they have opened up another shop. Wonder why they have not called it Roomsfurniture ??
