Where it all started. Rough Trade was founded by Geoff Travis in 1976 as a London record shop and began releasing as an independent label in 1978. In 1982, the retail outlet broke with the A&R and distribution divisions and became an independent entity, as it remains today. In 1982 Rough Trade West relocated from its original site on Kensington Park Road to nearby Talbot Road. Rough Trade Neal’s Yard opened in 1988 and closed its doors in 2007, ahead of the opening of a new flagship store, Rough Trade East, which opened in 2007 in Brick Lane. Rough Trade NYC opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2013 and relocated to Rockefeller Center, Manhattan in 2021. Rough Trade Nottingham opened in 2014. Rough Trade Bristol opened in 2017. We host live shows, sell records, merchandise, hardware, beer and coffee. Come say hello!

Rough Trade charges more for postage…
Rough Trade charges more for postage and purchases than most of the others. But other than that it's ok.

The Rough Trade site is comprehensive and well laid out with a huge selection when I have found my vinyl’s.
Excellent quick delivery and packaging and my vinyl was in perfect condition, more importantly it sounds great.
Thanks guys will definitely be buying again.
I have been shopping with Rough Trade…
I have been shopping with Rough Trade for more than 30 years and they never disappoint. I am loving the RT50 limited releases; the only ask would be to put them in a decent reusable polyethylene sleeve so that the hype stickers can be retained in place. Early editions were like this but more recent ones seem to be in single use sealed film.
Great product range, competitive prices and good service
I have used Rough Trade for many years. They are usual “go to” for my vinyl purchases. They have an extensive range of vinyl including a number of Rough Trade exclusive limited editions. Pricing is competitive and delivery is swift. Packaging is robust to protect the precious vinyl. Responsive and helpful customer service if you need it.
Great price and selection as always
Great price and selection as always. The delivery was delayed and required a chase otherwise it would have been 5 stars
Great album, quick delivery

I've brought from Rough Trade on numerous occasions, they're very easy to deal with and the items are well packaged and sent out/received quickly.
Depth of range, quality & service ✅
I typically use 3 record sites/stores for my purchases, after years of trawling. One of the best is Rough Trade & I’ve just received my new Temples & Fcukers albums. Always delivered on time, perfectly packaged and great value and often with special editions, which I tend to look for. Always happy to recommend Rough Trade as a site and store for range, value and great service.
The record I ordered arrived promptly
The record I ordered arrived promptly. It was beautifully packaged in Rough Trade style and the packaging protected the record perfectly so that it was a delightful experience to slit the encapsulation and listen. Great!

Pre-order concerns
There does seem to be an issue with pre-order stuff. I cancelled a previous pre-order because it kept getting delayed and my last order has now been delayed 3 times - almost 2 months overdue. Getting bored of the unhelpful stock-response deflections that give you false hope and then tear it away. There’s no explanation about why it’s been delayed 3 times, which just creates even more frustration.
Very unhappy with this recent trend as it has put me off ordering other stuff over the last few weeks.

Items arrived well packed and as they should be. No issues dealing with the company but do find their web site a little difficult to navigate at times. Happy to use them again in the future.

Rough Trade
Since I’ve been ordering all of my music from RT these past few months, I decided to join the Monthly Membership Club and I love it. Specially when you can save shipping costs among other nice offerings. The RT Exclusives, RT Essentials and RT 50 editions are quite terrific collectibles and they add great value to my record collection. Service is great too, I can tell the RT staff love music as much as I do.
