Salford City Council Reviews 

Asked for waste collection, £52.50 which is already a joke in itself, and while we awaited any sort of notificiation about our collection we only got one, a week later "we tried to collect your waste twice, and the waste wasn't there". The fact they'd even tried ONCE was news to us. Just took our 50 quid and left. Absolute joke of a service and a waste of money.

Impossible to get hold of. I work full time so don't have the time to sit on hold for 45 minutes a time to just have the call terminated.

Council Tax and many other major services are down. They are so down that you can't get anything even through the phone (their support team have no access, too). Website lies about this being a "maintenance". With all respect but maintenance can't last 3 or more weeks. Not even a day. Admit you have broken the system and hopefully trying to sort it out and provide estimates when to expect this to be back and working.
You should be governed and punished for such behavior, but since you won't and everyone is still obliged to pay, you allow this to happen and you don't care.

I currently find...certain departments at Salford City Council..based at Swinton...artist Lowry country.. to be rather lacerdeasical...passing from pillar to post. Maybe The City Council...celebrating its Centrnerarumy as a City in 2026...Will be given better Star Ratings...by end of decade..Mr. John Parkinson.. former Journalist. Many Thanks..

Salford Council are an absolute joke, can never get through when ringing so used online form for the agent who I will be putting in a complaint about hangs up mid sentence to the last thing I was asked, they literally deserve no stars all I asked was if they've received my attachment of earnings to her reply I don't know what your asking me.. It's not that hard

They have a data breach. Someone logged into my account and marked me as moving out and changed my address. When I called to ask why my debit orders were not going off they said it was because I changed my details. They were insistent it was me who logged on and changed my details. When I requested to see the completed form that requested this change I noticed it was not my details. They have not since rectified the issue nor have they offered an explanation for this. There is definitely a data breach and I have the form that proves this.

Reported on 2 Dec a malfunctioning street light on a busy main road, received 'do not reply' response same day that they got my report. But nothing happened. Repeated report on 9 Dec, same reply.... and light still not repaired.

I would rate Salford City Council a zero, but unfortunately have to put a star.
Absolutey useless re council tax and student exemption. They totally ignore student evidence submitted, for student exemption, but instead send bailiffs round, sent court summons, ruin your credit file. They are all incompetent, they are rude, ignorant. Even going in to see them face to face, on 2 occasions, with all student evidence for exemption, still not rectified ad promise, instead court summons, bailiffs.
Absolute bunch of idiots. Such a stressful time at university due to them. Many of my friends have suffered with poor mental health because of council tax hounding. Useless, incompetent, waste of space.

Not fit for purpose. The phoneline and livechat arw constantly busy, nobody replies to emails. It's pathetic. The council tax section of the website has been down for a few months and they took almost 3 months to respond tona SAR. Quite frankly, they're about as much use as a perforated condom.

This council’s parking services is the worst kind of lazy, inflexible bureaucracy. They use meaningless regulations to cover up their complete failure to maintain basic infrastructure. You start to wonder where all the income from council tax and penalties actually goes.

There’s zero fairness and absolutely no common sense — just a ruthless, money-hungry machine designed to punish innocent people instead of fixing their own mess.

A frustrating experience that shows a lack of care and responsibility.

Like many others it's impossible to contact anyone at the Council.ive tried over several days to contact them by one but you get tge same message about not being able to answer your call then you get cut off. Tried the online chat line but it wouldn't let me send my message, kept asking for my name but there was no box to do this. Even tried completing complaints form but after the 1st page pressed NEXT to ho to the next page and a technical error message came up.. Thwarted at every turn.

have a disability and feel discriminated against. The Council is a public service, serving the people of Salford but they are failing badly which is very sad.

I bust a blood vessell when I was wrongly issued a PCN Notice, I couldn't sort it out quickly enough so ended up paying it to avoid the increase in charges. After paying it I went after a refund and tbf I eventually was successful. 3 Stars for wrongly being charged but would have given 5 Stars for the person behind the refund

Rude Staff, Terrible Service, Complete Lack of understanding, Unnecessary Questioning of Finances.

Their website is shocking. There's no way of getting in touch with them. I was at Salford for university so was exempt from council tax, moved out as soon as my tenancy was up, told them I was moving at least twice yet they've been hounding me for council tax ever since, that's 5 months now

Website is abysmal probably coded by little Jimmy during his apprenticeship scheme on his £6.40 an hour.

They have zero means of communication beyond using Twitter, which you can't use for council tax, super useful.

No enquiry email like Trafford Council. And a live chat that doesn't work (maybe double check with little Jimmy).

So your stuck with their 1930s means of communication of telephone or face to face. A phone system that either has a queue of 30 people or tells you it's too busy and to try again later.

And then if you finally get through to someone Lord help you if you get anyone competent. If you do make a wish that day.

Only problems here! Advisors lack knowledge and are very lazy.
They mess people about too. My council tax claim for reduction was ignored, not a single reply. I then had to pay in full as a single mum. Not fair and a complete disgrace. You have to keep calling to keep them awake.

Some"pond life" thought it was acceptable to fly tip in front of my neighbours garage. I submitted the online form on 13th August and the council removed it the following morning thank you Salford council.

The WORST organisation I have EVER had to deal with. Would give 0 stars if I could as 1 star is way too generous to them.

Harrassed me on 3 different occasions with threats of fines, court hearings etc over unpaid tax when I had in fact paid my tax every single month and every time it turned out it was THEIR mistake - never recieved any apologies though of course. I can't put into words just how stressful this was.

Impossible to contact - web chat is useless and always unavailable, Twitter account have no rights/access to any info and the phone line is always a queue of 20+ and many a time when I have finally got through the people working for them have just hung up on me mid conversation. I don't know how they get away with being so so so useless. It's awful.

The staff I spoke to on the phone were always rude, disintrerested and downright rude.

You can understand why their rating on Google and TrustPilot is some of the worst I have ever seen.

I feel sorry for anyone in Salford who is forced to deal with them.

Horrible customer service...
I`ve been chasing them for a month to fix my council tax bill. Today I wanted to use the web chat option on the website, but the assistant was so rude, she just said she couldn`t help me and closed the chat without even explaining why or redirecting me?! After that, I`ve called them to be transferred to another line and now I`m number 14 in te queue.... absolutel joke.
