Cannot book in advance
They tell you that you cannot book more than a week in advance. Yet if you try to book a week in advance they say they have no vans. Not sure how to be a customer when they won't let you book and clearly have no idea who has their van on any day
Salford Van Hire - Do not expect your full deposit back.
Hired a van from SVH for a weekend and suffered a flat tyre on the day we were due to return the van. SVH arranged a breakdown company to call out to us and without knocking on our door, started working on the van and eventually replaced the tyre without any real communication with us. We returned the van later that morning and were told the incident had to be 'investigated' so would have to wait for a phone call.
This came a few hours later to which they said they would have to charge us for the replacement and call out as the company didn't use the spare tyre that the van had. This was our responsibility to inform the breakdown company (that SVH instructed) apparently. They are also very reluctant to detail how they have calculated a £90 call out charge. They said this is what the breakdown company charge them.. It isn't. I got a quote from the same company, they charge £50.
In total, £227 was deducted from our £500 deposit. It became quite clear this is how they make their money. Would never use again or recommend them.
Had a good experience
I have just returned a van back to…
NEVER AGAIN
I have just returned a van back to Salford Van Hire and was very surprised AND SHOCKED to be told i had damaged the van.
The lady behind the desk said its ok as you have paid the waver. My argument was that i hadn't bumped or scratched the van and to prove that i showed her the video that i took on the day of hiring with all the bumps and scratches.
The fact is that if i hadn't taken a video and paid for the waver i would have had to prove that i had done nothing to the van. Why do they walk around the van in the first place.
i wouldn't trust Salford Van Hire again as they lied and i don't do liars and cheats. ALWAYS TAKE A VIDEO OF THE VAN.
NEVER AGAIN
SHOULD HAVE GONE TO ELLIOTS
Burger man
The company is good but some Employee Not , the guy that eats to many Burgers in the Leeds branch is such a p…k ( on the phone to me About Toll ticket)
AVOID THIS COMPANY!!
If I could give minus stars I would!!!
This company is a complete scam, they don't only make their money from the ridiculous charges but also their over the top damage charge. A battered old van that I must say was completely ruined and dirty when given to me, with a clutch that got dangerously jammed constantly and air con that blows hot air in 29 degree heat, also not to mention I had to make them aware one of the tyres was actually illegal as well as the spare tyre being flat meaning I would have been stuck had I taken the van off them in this condition. Really goes to show they are not bothered about the safety of the van and you would expect simple requirements to be met.
If you are brave enough to go ahead with this embarrassment of a company, be prepared to never see your deposit of £500 again as I was charged this for a 7mm chip which could have been fixed in any normal garage for a fraction of the price. To put into context the scale of the "damage", it was that minuscule I didn't even notice it and neither did the incompetent employee who "checked" my vehicle when I brought it back. When you return your vehicle your deposit is held for 3 weeks minimum and without constant pestering they will be more than happy to keep hold of it. To add insult to injury, the deposit they take off you which is solely for damage repairs does not even go on the van instead into the pockets of Salford Van Hire hence why they will keep your deposit for absolutely anything.
If you're content with losing a large sum of money on a banged up, un-roadworthy van then good luck but there are in my experience dozens of van rental companies in the North-West that are much more professional and trustworthy than these jokers!!
Salford Van Hire Scam
I hired a Vauxhal Vivaro 2700 ( Reg. MJ66 LZO) on 26/07/2021 at 9:00am from SVH Leeds and halfway to my destination I stopped to get a rest. When I wanted to resume my journey, the seatbelt was stuck and couldn’t come out. I reported the fault to SVH Leeds and after more than 2 hours an engineer attended and fixed the issue with the seatbelt. I asked the engineer what the issue was, and he replied, 'it's now fixed'.
Three days later, I was stunned as SVH Leeds debited my bank account without even informing me for £162.00 and when I went to see them, they stated that the engineer reported that there were no faults. They handed over to me a proforma invoice on which was stated:
- Hourly charge: 02.30 hours @ £45.00 = £112.50
- Callout charge: = £22.50
- VAT = £27.00
Total = £162.00
If there were no fault, why am I being charged 2.5 hours? The engineer spent between 15 - 30 minutes in total to fix the seatbelt and drove away. Does it take 2.5 hours to diagnose that there is no fault on a seatbelt?
I see here either a scam, or an extorsion attempt. This is utterly unprofessional for a company of your calibre and need to be addressed and stopped immediately. I intend to take this issue to the Trading Standards and to any bodies that oversees your business sector. I will also put this online so that your customers are aware of your practices, and know how what to do should they to experience the same nightmare you put me in.
Excellent van hire service
Excellent van hire service never had any problems.
House move? Job done!
First time customer of Salford Van Hire and I've got to say I'm impressed. I was provided a clean, modern vehicle to move house with. Turned up first thing on Sunday and within an hour I was driving away.
What could have tainted the experience? Having a breakdown - which unfortuately did happen! But thankfully the hire desk were quick to get me in a new vehicle and back out on the road again, in less than an hour.
Will definitely reccomend them and I'll be using you again in the future!
Poor customer service
Absolutely appalled by Salford Van Hire in Leeds.
How are you supposed to hire a van when everything is registered to a house that burned down in February and you need a van to move your stuff back after the rebuild and have been living in temporary accommodation. I proved where we were living, even the tenancy agreement but the answer was still no!
No empathy or even an attempt to help in any way. Absolutely disgusting.
Booked a van 24hrs in advance but still…
Booked a van 24hrs in advance but still had to wait over 1 hr and 15 mins before it was ready. No apology or explanation.
Was being shown around 1 vehicle and was just about to be handed keys when suddenly I was told there was a mistake and the vehicle wasn’t road ready.
Went back into waiting room and 30 mins later was taken outside again to be shown replacement vehicle which was actually the same vehicle from before.. A mix up apparently.
I asked person dealing with me if this was normal and he said no but they were really busy. While I was on site for over an hour I saw 5 customers and there were plenty of staff on the desk so this explanation didn’t seem likely
Cargo leaked like a sieve causing numerous cardboard boxes to split - reported this upon return- didn’t bat an eyelid. I filled fuel tank 4 miles away yet somehow they squeezed another 14 lts in !!! Really?
Won’t use this outfit again
