Professional and caring

From my first correspondence with Santerpaws they were absolutely excellent. We had a home check and were kept up to date with messages and photos until our dog arrived in Jan 23. The support we had from the volunteers - and their dedicated behaviourist - was second to none. Unfortunately, due to a change in circumstances we had to make the difficult decision to make use of rescue back up. The charity were absolutely fantastic and I can not thank them enough. They were sympathetic, understanding and wholly professional. I would wholeheartedly recommend them.

Dog adoption experts

Santerpaws have gone over and above to help rescue two pups from Bulgaria for us. They have looked after them until they were fully vaccinated, wormed, microchipped and organised all transportation to the UK and legal requirements. We picked our pups up from a large service station as there are many drop off points in the UK, but communication was great and the van arrived on time. Our pups are healthy, socialised, friendly and have obviously been very well cared for and loved. The advice and updates have been extremely reassuring and informative, from what to expect from pick up to the weeks and months after. They have responded to weeks of any and all questions and requests for advice on our transport group quickly.
It's clear that those running and working for Santerpaws do it for the love of the animals and go out of their way to ensure the best outcome for the dogs and their new families.
If you're not sure how to go about adopting or are worried about the treatment/care of a potential new pet , from our experience, they are extremely responsible, know their stuff inside out and will always put the welfare of their dogs first, and are always available for advice after adoption. I literally knew nothing about adopting a dog, let alone from abroad, it took a few months because they have to be 4 months to travel / vaccinations, passport, microchip etc, and the UKs legal requirements for travel, but Santerpaws took care of everything, we just had to turn up to pick them up. We've had them nearly 2 months now and they are still offering advice when needed. They've settled in brilliantly and can't imagine being without them. If you're serious about adopting, Santerpaws are experts at what they do.

We recently adopted a dog through…

We recently adopted a dog through santerpaws Bulgarian rescue.

From start to finish we’ve been kept in the loop over what is happening and what we need to do and expect.

We had a lady, who isn’t with santerpaws come and inspect our home, this was done quickly an efficiently.

We then got the go ahead from santerpaws and was give ALOT of info to read telling what we need to expect in a timeline manor.

The team at santerpaws are always on hand to help and offer any advice that’s needed to help the pup and us settle.

We are all part of a transport group which is where everyone asks questions, I’ve asked plenty and they’ve always been so helpful and shown me what I could change to get him to listen.

If it wasn’t for all the good reviews I’ve seen and researched I’m not sure we would have had a good outcome.

We’ve had pup now nearly 7 weeks and he’s completely settled.

Thank you santerpaws!

I tried many adoption routes before…

I tried many adoption routes before coming across Santerpaws. It had been difficult to find the right dog and find somewhere that would adopt to a family with children. I found Santerpaws helpful and more hopeful to adopt dogs to loving families. I understand they were busy so sometimes I contacted them when we hadn't heard something for a little while, but they always got back to me. We had a home a check and they contacted me when transport had been arranged. The details of the transport followed in the days before. I was kept as up to date as possible during the transport. I was made aware that the stop off and collection of the dog would be brief and to travel straight home with no stop offs, due to the dog being stressed by that point. There has been a group chat open for difficult times while the dog adapts. And there is alot to learn when adopting a dog that you don't know the full background. I totally understand this and I'm just glad to have my dog safe in my home, and I can work through her difficulties. I think Santerpaws do their very best and these dogs are able to find loving homes where hopefully people can appreciate the difficulties ahead and work with them. I would use Santerpaws again and I'm very grateful for what they do.

We adopted a dog from this adoption…

We adopted a dog from this adoption agency early 2023. I saw him on the Facebook page and instantly fell in love. I paid the deposit, someone came out to do a home check and that’s where the red flags started. This woman, insisted that dogs do not need vaccinating more than once, their first vaccinations, that flea and worm treatments can be natural remedies such as pumpkin seeds and turmeric. and when it came to “checking upstairs in my home” she insisted she didn’t need to, as she could see, me and my partner were not the type of people to “hide animals”. We passed the home check, I paid the adoption fee and we arranged pick up. It was very rushed, we were told to meet the van in a car park around 40 minutes from where we lived. They said in the groupchat we were in, that our dog was one of the last few dogs on the drop off for the day. We got him, 2 men physically dragged him out of a tiny crate, which there were multiple of in the van. All still with dogs in, despite him being one of the last to be dropped off. They carried him and put him in the boot of my car. I asked the men if he’d need a drink, to which they replied, “I don’t care, we don’t have time”. And they left very very quickly. Nearly 2 months after having our fur baby, he’s started to show signs of aggression, towards people who he’s been around the entire time. He was labelled as being fine around other dogs, cats and small children. But I really am starting to doubt this, as his aggression is slowly growing worse. The red flags have been there since the start of this adoption journey. Please, avoid if you can.

Reply from Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue

Hello we are so sorry to hear you are having difficulties and as you have posted anonymously we cannot tell if you have contacted us about them.

If you have not made contact with us, I urge you to do so as soon as possible so we can support and assist you. We are extremely proud of our rescue back up service and no dog homed in the UK or their family is left unsupported.

We do not undertake our own home checks. We use an entirely separate and reputable Registered Charity for this. The Checkers are DBS vetted and trained; this is why we use them. If you had raised an issue with us regarding your home check experience, we would have raised it with the responsible organisation.

We advise not to re- vaccinate our dogs because they have had every vaccination required and over-vaccination can be dangerous. All vaccinations are listed in the dog's passport for reference.

We used a DEFRA approved transport company. We only use this company because of their high standards. Again, if you have raised your concerns with us, this will have been raised and investigated with the transport company.

We are very clear is will often take 3 months for a new dog to settle and start to fully interact with their new family. Depending on arrival date, this milestone can only just have been met.

We are available very easily, so please do make contact. Either via the transport support group, which runs for some time after every homing trip or by email. You can of course also message us directly using Messenger.

Alan from Santerpaws

We collected our Santerpaws dog Alan from his foster carer in Northumberland in September. We love him. The shelter clearly socialises their dogs really well and picks fosterers who are very skilled. Santerpaws and the foster carer's support was amazing before, during and after collection.
Santerpaws were great to deal with, and honest and open about Alan. We couldn't be happier and we think Alan is too!

Amazing people at this rescue centre

Amazing people at this rescue centre. We got our dog from them a year ago, at all times we have had good support. The dog was scared and confused when she arrived but now with love and patience we have the most wonderful dog that we love to pieces. Thank you Santerpaws.

Such a caring and kind rescue

Such a caring and kind rescue. Justine and the team work tirelessly to find homes for these dogs and they always try to be open and honest about each dog. Obviosly, they can only tell you how the dogs are with them, as dogs will be different in every environment. However, they will always expose them to children and cats to give a fair assessment, and they always tell you that their cats are dog savvy!

I can't praise Santerpaws highly enough and if I was in a position to get another dog (which I would love to do) then I would definitely use Santerpaws again and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends and family!

I would just say that anyone who gets a new dog (from anywhere!) needs to do their research and be aware of what it takes to look after a dog, not assume they are just there for Instagram opportunities with no work needed! All dogs need time and patience settling into a new home. However, saying that, Santerpaws can direct you to lots of tools to help support new owners to give these dogs the best opportunities.

Importantly, all the dogs come over fully vaccinated with pet passports and are microchipped!

I highly recommend Santerpaws for anyone looking for a rescue dog/puppy!

My experience of Santerpaws

I first came into contact with the Charity at the end of our lockdown periods.

The Team over here in the uk couldn't have been more helpful in explaining the process of how i would go about adopting. The dog i was initially enquiring about wouldn't fit with my family dynamic I was glad of there honesty. The explained of another dog and well, a long story short.

I adopted one dog, then another and have gone onto Foster twice for the charity. The dogs which i have fostered I am still in contact with (One went to family) so quite often I have=be 4 dogs in the house and I have plenty room for more.

With the upmost honesty they have the best Interests for the dogs and there is a brilliant back up team too, which is available through the dedicated FB groups.

I am so glad\\ i found this charity.

I adopted a 5 year male dog

I adopted a 5 year male dog, he is my baby now. Santerpaws was amazing and provided me with as much information about him as possible. They did a home check via video and quickly arranged an adoption date.

On pick up day I drove to a local motorway services to meet the transport and pick up my dog. Quick and easy, it was nice to meet other local families adopting locally too.

Since having laker (our dog) we have had easy to access help from both santerpaws and a members only forum on Facebook. The forum is very helpful and a nice little community.

As with any rescue animal they take time and patients aswell as lots of love. Laker has taken a year to settle in and is still very nervous but he loves a cuddle from anyone who sits on the sofa. In the colder months he turns into a total bed monster. My own furry hot water bottle. My 9 year old daughter adores him and he equally loves her. But that took a long time to establish thier relationship, but with time and patience.

I can highly recommend santerpaws.

Brilliant dog rescue charity a*

This is a registered UK charity dedicated to helping dogs in need. They have good communication and the dogs are Defra regulated to enter the UK so they can be adopted by loving homes.
We adopted 2 dogs that are loving and a joy to have. Like any rescue animal there is a reason they are in a rescue home so time, patience, knowledge and love is needed.
The charity has brilliant support even prior to the adoption date, they save the lives of these amazing dogs that would otherwise have no hope for life.
They are intelligent and very trainable dogs, this can be let down by people that are not committed.

The most genuine charity whose priority is the dogs

My two rescue pups came from santerpaws rescue back and from the moment I applied for them right up until I got them home I was kept updated the whole time. My two pups were matched to us as I have young children at home and the match was perfect. Justine was fantastic as was the transport guys. In 2021 my brother rescued a dog from santerpaws as well and everything was fine for him also. The charity is genuine and the priority is the dogs. I kept in touch with santerpaws via social media and belong to an owners group also.

Wonderful Santerpaws!

My daughter and I have 8 Santerpaws dogs between us. I was a Trustee for many years of an English Rescue and have years of experience of animals and wildlife rescue.
Dogs/cats/horses whatever all have their own personalities, likes/dislikes - just like humans. Justine, Pete and the Team do a fantastic job and go way beyond the calls of duty. Wonderful!!

We Adore Santerpaws

We adore santerpaws - what an amazing rescue, we got out santerpaws pup in March of 2021 and we've been inseparable since. Justine and the team are so lovely and easy to get along with, they did all they could before we got our little man from them last year (Mac). The staff are so helpful and there's lots of support even after we adopted Mac, the santerpaws group is full of kind and caring people, they're always there for advice or just if you need to chat. I wasn't expecting such a great community of people considering that the rescue is just Justine and her husband but they really go above and beyond for their animals. I'd recommend santerpaws to anyone and everyone interested in adopting a dog, Mac is a part of my family and I wouldn't change him or the experience for the world.

This rescue does such an amazing job in…

This rescue does such an amazing job in rescuing and rehoming stray and neglected Cats and Dogs. We recently rescued a German Wire Haired Pointer called Isla who found emaciated and neglected in the middle of nowhere. Isla is the most loving dog we have ever had all thanks to Santerpaws. I wouldn’t think twice about adopting another dog from this rescue. Thanks to these kind people for all the help they give to these poor animals in Bulgaria. Were so proud to own one of your amazing Dogs. Kind Regards Michael and Tanya T.

Excellent Rescue!

Our rescue pup arrived in the UK last Saturday and we are over the moon with him, he is adorable. If you are thinking about adopting a rescue dog bear this charity in mind. They work hard to ensure the right dog is matched to your home circumstances with a homecheck also carried out. Always there to answer any queries. We are thrilled.
