I travelled distance to come here…

I travelled distance to come here because we have very little aquarium stores in Hereford other then pets at home. They had fish available that we definitely don’t get down here. Staff were friendly and helpful. But the most important thing to me was the care given to the fish. There water quality appears pristine and clean, everything there looked healthy with no signs or illness or disease. Very tidy shop. Very please with the service. Thank you

Great store, loads of variety and friendly.

This is my local fish and aquarium store and I tend to pop in every week or so to have a nose at the new stock and pick up a few items - Always a pleasant experience, friendly staff - they carry a really good variety of tropical fish at competetive prices, its a deceptively large store once your inside as well.

A big thumbs up from me.

Good shop, Poor service

Let me begin with the fact that 99% of the time me and my partner have visited this shop, we have had good experiences. however the most recent one has made me question going back.

I went in to purchase a few Guppies for my tropical tank, we went at a quiet time of day and were the only people in there. I chose my fish and was happy with the choice they had. HOWEVER when the worker had gathered them out the tank and into the bag they dropped the bag from roughly shoulder height onto the floor, I know this is an accident and cant be avoided as it can happen. the fish luckily stayed in the bag but it did lose most water, no doubt this experience stressed the fish to no end. however I accepted this was an accident and paid for my fish and left.

2 days later to no surprise one of the fish is now dead, I appreciate that they only have a 24hr guarantee but given the circumstances I though I would contact them and see what they had to say.

My partner called and was greeted by a rather abruptly rude man who reiterated to her it is only a 24hr guarantee but then stated that dropping the fish from shoulder height and losing almost all water in the bag would NOT harm the fish or stress it out, which I find very very hard to believe. and we were essentially fobbed off and that it was our problem to deal with which was incredibly disappointing considering all the praise and customer service that others have given.

It is quite sad for me as I have always enjoyed visiting this shop for the past few years and we were going to come in to purchase some fish to stock up my partners new tank (10 fish +) but now I am really second guessing myself as it has left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

I hope that they can learn from this and try to do better as the shop really is fantastic, but the service from certain individuals really leaves something to be desired...

Two miserable old men

Shame I’m leaving a 1* the upstairs lady is fantastic but good lord the two older men downstairs, would it hurt to crack a smile? Ask them a question and it’s like you’ve insulted them. If you’re going just for upstairs it’s well worth the travel but unfortunately you will have to deal with the grumps.

BRILLIANT FISH SHOP !!!

I really highly recommend this aquatics shop.

Been here first time due to my uncle recommended it to me, I have had 4 clown loaches 10 neon tetras and today a blue phantom pleco which I've brought from them and they are thriving, gave me excellent advice on the fish I brought and what they feed them so I can give it them to, I always ask alot of questions as to their diet and if they are fussy and they are truly honest with me as a golden nugget is an expensive fish but told me they can starve themselves as to why I opted for the blue phantom. Excellent range of fish. Brilliant staff been here 4 times in a month now and always walk away with a purchase or more knowledge, Staff always happy to help and on hand when you need them even if they are busy, I have just currently ordered a rio 450 tank so look out Sedgley staff I'm coming to talk about keeping live plants lol and I'm in need of your knowledge. 😀

Awesome plants

Awesome plants. Brilliant advice. Still competitive considering all the online experience. Has a good animal quarantine process compared to local competition.

Brilliant knowledgeable staff, good fish Excellent shop

I bought a Fluval Flex glass 57L from Sedgley Road Aquarium.

The staff were very helpful with their advice as to how to set it up, how much substrate, what size heater.

The shop also gave advice on getting the water conditioned and testing it prior to introducing any fish to ensure no fish losses. I told them I would be using rain water so should be okay. They advised caution.

I bought some plants from them and they have both true aquatic plants and semi-aquatic plants for sale. The tanks these are held in were marked up with chinagraph pencil as to which type of plant is in them.

I particularly liked the shops 'grading' of fish using coloured spots with regard to peaceable community fish to those not to be trusted with smaller fish.

Over the course of several weeks the water became acceptable for fish and knowing the size of my tank, the staff advised me on the type of fish to buy and introduce first. They also advised me to carry on water testing in case of a Nitrite/Nitrate spike and not to add more fish for at least a fortnight. I bought 5 neon tetras and some more plants.

Towards the end of the fortnight the Nitrite/Nitrate levels started to rise. I went into the shop and told them of the rise. They advised a partial water change and sold me some water conditioning 'bacteria' to help bring the levels down. I bought some more plants.

Two weeks later the levels were fine and I added 3 Harlequins and some more plants.

Two weeks after that I added a pair of Guppies and some more plants.

I have had no fish losses and the staff have used their knowledge and advice to help me, have the patience to (slow me down in order to), create a lovely planted aquarium.

I know that if I see something I'm not sure of all I need to do is ask.

I felt scammed on aquatic plants

TLDR: Many of the aquarium plants they sell are NOT aquarium plants and will die within a couple of months.

They have a large range of live plants in underwater tanks upstairs in the shop. Being new to aquatic plants I opted to purchase from the local aquatic shop, who I assumed must know what they're doing.

Purchased 8 plants (in pots with labels). The labels all helpfully show how much light, what temperature and best aquarium location for the plants. Later researched on the internet on how to care for them and found 6 of the plants are not true aquatic plants and would be dead within a month or two. Not only does this feel a little dishonest, it could have a disastrous impact on water chemistry and harm any fish when the plants eventually die and decompose.

Feels a bit like a scam. Tanks with a mix of aquatic and NON aquatic plants and all underwater, even the ones that can't survive underwater for long. I'm sure a lot of beginners made the mistake I did. And the shop assistant didn't mention, "hey, you're buying some weird mix of aquatic and non-aquatic plants, do you know what you're doing?".

I brought multiples of: Hemiographis colorata, Ophiopogon kyoto, Chlorophytum bichettii. All would die underwater.

Stick to buying plants off the internet where you can do proper research before purchase.

Hi
I am really sorry.
I do usually ask staff to tell people about the none aquatic plants.
Really am truly sorry.
I will make sure from know on that we don’t keep many of these plants in stock and if we do I’ll make sure there marked clearly as none aquatic plants.
Again sorry about this.
And thank you for pointing this out to us.
