It has been about five years since I started using Simplyvat for tax services, and I have been very satisfied throughout this time.
Previously, I worked with another accounting firm, but communication was poor and the monthly tax filings did not run smoothly, which caused me a lot of anxiety.
At Simplyvat, there are multiple staff members, and each case is handled by the appropriate person. Occasionally responses can be a little slow, likely due to their busy schedule, but all issues are always resolved properly, so I feel reassured and confident in their service.

At the beginning SimplyVAT were very responsive and helpful during onboarding.
Unfortunately, after some time the service completely collapsed.
Agents kept changing, emails stopped being answered, and no clear ownership of our
account remained. As a result, VAT returns were missed, and we started receiving
official letters from tax authorities demanding payment of VAT, interest and penalties.
We were left to resolve accumulated debts and penalties ourselves, without any support
or explanation from SimplyVAT. Attempts to contact them by email were ignored, and there
was no effective way to get urgent issues resolved.
In short: they are friendly and proactive when you are joining, but once problems arise,
you may be left alone dealing with serious compliance consequences.
I would strongly advise businesses to think carefully before relying on SimplyVAT for
ongoing VAT compliance.

The entire experience with SimplyVAT has been awful from day one.
We approached SimplyVAT because we needed professional support registering for VAT and filing in Germany as a UK entity. During the initial sales call, we were explicitly promised guidance and support through what is a very complicated and admin-heavy process. Unfortunately, the moment the contract was signed, that support essentially disappeared.
The registration process itself was tedious and confusing, which we expected given German bureaucracy. What we did not expect was how impersonal, unhelpful, and reactive SimplyVAT would be. Instead of proactive guidance, we were repeatedly forwarded generic technical jargon, the same information we would have had to navigate ourselves directly with the German authorities. Worse, much of the information provided was either irrelevant to our case or simply incorrect. Only after repeatedly pointing out inconsistencies would the assigned contact acknowledge the issue, which strongly suggested they were not paying proper attention to our specific situation.
During the initial call, we were advised that we needed to register for OSS, which meant additional filings and additional fees payable to SimplyVAT. After the registration was already completed, we were then told that we did not actually need OSS. By that point, it was “too late” to cancel, we were locked into a one-year commitment, and deregistering would cost an additional £300. This was both costly and completely avoidable had proper advice been given upfront.
Once registered, we were told onboarding would be quick and that we would be assigned a personal account manager to support us ongoing. That was over four months ago. We still do not have an account manager.
Onboarding itself was again confusing and strenuous. We completed our first VAT return fully aware it might be imperfect and were assured that after submission we could review it together, identify mistakes, and optimise the process going forward. Instead, we heard nothing from our onboarding advisor for four weeks, despite multiple follow-ups. When she finally replied, she provided no concrete answers and repeatedly stated that SimplyVAT “does not look at documents” and “does not help with reconciliation.” She did confirm that there were mistakes in the return, but to this day has been unable to explain what those mistakes were or how to correct them.
At this point, we are slowly teaching ourselves how to manage the process (with the help of AI), which completely defeats the purpose of paying for a service like this. We do not feel supported, advised, or looked after in any way.
Even our accountants, who are responsible for the bookkeeping and were directly connected with SimplyVAT, have encountered the same issues: unresponsiveness, lack of clarity, and an impersonal approach.
After five months, the outcome is simple:
• Regular fees have been charged
• We have one faulty VAT return
• We still don’t know how to fix it
• And we have received virtually no meaningful support
For a service that markets itself as expert guidance through complex VAT matters, this experience has been deeply disappointing and frustrating.
It would be really helpful if somebody could actually take the time to guide us through their process, highlight the areas that need improving, answer our questions directly and connect to our bookkeepers so they can do their job.

Simply the worst!
terrible communication and poor service all wrapped up together.
10 months after paying a fortune for deregistration, it hasn't happened, so I continue to receive "estimated return bills.

Now that I have stopped paying for their terrible service, I 'm on my own, even though I did pay for de-registration and closure.
Look elsewhere.
You get what you pay for, and these guys are not worth the risk.
