I would have given Portsmouth S&L one star but a very nice young man got them an extra star. One member of staff was rude abrupt and unhelpful as soon as we walked in. So when we were told the food wo... See more

Slug & Lettuce Bournemouth
Took my family to Bournemouth for Mothers Day and decided to eat at the Slug & Lettuce. Staff were really lovely but I should have known what the food would be like by the state of the glasses when we had a drink beforehand. Dirty glasses, cold, barely cooked food. The majority of toilets in the ladies had no toilet paper. I certainly will not be visiting or recommending again!
Awful
Booked a table at the Slug and Lettuce at the 02 Greenwich London for Sunday 23rd March 2023. The mandatory £10.00 deposit was paid and the confirmation detailed that a table was booked for upstairs.
When my friend and I arrived we went upstairs and the upstairs area was in darkness and two people standing there said it was closed. I explained that I had booked a table upstairs and was told to see someone downstairs.
Downstairs was chaotic no staff available at the front to speak to guests There were two very long zig zag queues with two staff at the bar serving drinks at . I managed to get to the front by going around the queue I managed to speak to someone explaining that I had booked a table upstairs and he said it is closed. He then came from behind the bar spoke to a group sat at a high table with stools and asked them to leave and told us to seat there. The table was bar table for drinks not at all like upsta.I asked about the ordering process and was told you have to queue up and order. The queues were long short staffed no restaurant upstairs and the customer service was questionable to say the least. The atmosphere not what we expected. Upstairs was laid out like a restaurant but no staff. The Chaos and Bar stools and table was not what we booked so I asked if we could have our booking fee refunded. No!
We left and as luck would have it right next door was a Gordon Ramsey burgers and drinks lovely polite woman at the front receiving staff and although this restaurant was busy. As said staff were polite. All was organised and the service prompt and efficient. A stark contrast. The fact that my deposit was not forthcoming is not on at all. Slug and Lettuce come on
Still waiting on refund.
Still waiting on refund.
I booked S&L for my birthday in Manchester, and paid a £20 deposit. I mentioned this to staff when we arrived, and they said it was fine to order on the app and they would refund me. I'm still waiting for my money and can't get in touch with anyone.
Friendly helpful staff
Great staff great breakfast and thank you Rich for my birthday drink.
Cctv in force & substitute gin for soda water
Not only is your every move recorded but also what you say privately amongst your party. If you are on table service, you miss all the signs that are apparently around the bar area warning you of the cctv. When we went they put soda water in place of the gin. It was on a bottomless brunch. It was through complaining that we found out about the cctv. All those on spirits were sober, the 1 person on Prosecco was merry.
Lovely staff
Slug and lettuce Bromsgrove is our favourite place for coffee and food. Lovely staff and Liam in particular goes above and beyond to make sure we have a good time. We meet our friend there and we’re always looked after
Poor experience all round
Just eaten in the slug and lettuce in Newcastle on the quays. Ordered a sharing platter, cold chicken, cold chips and uninterested staff in general! Would have sent it all back if we hadn't waited so long for the food to arrive no wonder the place is empty.

Liam looked after us kept bringing the drinks
Would visit and do bottomless brunch again
Thanks x
Halima was our lovely waitress
Halima was our lovely waitress. She was accommodating for 10 of us girls and she was so so lovely. The service was so fast and she always made sure we had a drink topped up. She was also very friendly and lovely to speak to. Thankyou so much xx
Slug and Lettuce Waterloo London
Despite booking a table in advance it took the staff 15 minutes to seat us. First they tried to sit us in the bar area on a tiny table and tall stalls. I had to explain we have booked for dinner and this would not be suitable. We had terrible service, it took staff 15 minutes to come and take our drinks order. The steak we ordered was the worst steak I’ve ever tasted/seen. It looked like it have been boiled in water and had zero flavour. One of the starters we were given was not the one we ordered so had to send it back and then wait for another 15/20 mins for it to arrive. We also had to chase multiple staff to ask where our food was and each member of staff was either rude or just ignored us and never came back to the table.
We ordered desserts that never showed up and after waiting 35 minutes for them we had to leave to make it to the theatre.
The price we paid for the food we got was dreadful, the desserts were paid for but not received and the staff were awful. I would never return given this experience. Honestly the worst experience I’ve had eating out!
I sent an email of complaint to their email but nobody has replied to me and I’m writing this review a couple days shy of a month past our visit.
Jess made mine and my friends night 100…
Jess made mine and my friends night 100 times better, she had great customer service and fabulous people skills. Evan also did such a good job looking after us and keeping the vibe alive. They need more recognition for the job they do, especially Jess, what a fabulous girl.
Slug and Lettuce in Waterside Sale seem to have a chip on their shoulders
On 16th of February 2025, I visited with my wife Slug and Lettuce in Waterside, Sale to ask for Leah (kind of manageress) in order to discuss why the bar staff forgot to served us a bottle of wine with Dinner Date menu.
As with Leah we have a polite communication whenever we visited Slug and Lettuce in Waterside.
Nicole who was on duty she told us that Leah was on holiday and she will call us after one week.
During that time, Nicole took my phone number in order to pass it to Leah.
We asked if we had time for a quick drink as it was 9.30pm.
Nicole (barwoman who was on duty on 16th of February) replied that she had not the ingredients for 2 for 1 cocktails and she told us that we could only drink quickly one shot.
Which we did it, we complied, we drunk quickly that one shot, we thanked her, and we went.
On our way out,
we saw that at the same time Nicole served two full pint of beers two punters, while she told us that it was a closing time!!
▪︎ For a mild exchange of emails between I and a member of staff because they forgot to served a bottle of wine, which it is a part of Dinner Date menu, Slug and Lettuce barred us!! How discriminatory
It does not make sense.
▪︎ So, if a menber of the public requested that a member of a staff forgot to serve a bottle of wine, then they become oversensitive and initiated a barring?
You don't think that it is over the top?
I have just requested in my emails about why they forgot to served me a bottle of wine with our Dinner menu.
(We have not fell out or anything with her or with anyone else).
▪︎ So I am feeling astonished and uncomfortable with such over the top reaction when I have Not fell out with any member of the staff.
▪︎ Is not discriminatory to barring someone only because I requested via email exchange about inconsistent behaviour?
So they victimised us because I did a mild complaint with a civilised manner via emails
I was served a meat burger instead of a veggie burger
I ordered a veggie burger whilst having a bottomless brunch. I grazed at the chips whilst we drank, and then nearing the end of our 2 hours I drunkenly started eating my burger. It was near halfway through when I got to the bacon something didn't seem right and we opened the burger to discover the contents was real meat. What was inside the burger did not match the description of the veggie burger and it was quite clear by this point that after 10 years of not eating meat I had just eaten a cow and a pig. As you can imagine, this was quite upsetting and put a damper on the evening. I informed the bar tender, trying not to make a big deal from it because I hadn't quite processed what had happened myself. I was deeply upset. After an apology she told me there was nothing they could do but then deducted no more than £5 from the £71.90 bill, which really isn't a very big gesture given the circumstances.
I took the email to complain and did so, however have not had any response back at all.
Between 1☆ and 5☆
Called into the Slug and Lettuce at the Omni Centre, Edinburgh for a meal. The place was rather empty compared to Weathrespoons opposite. We both ordered a meal and drinks which soon arrived. The meals were very nice, I had Katsu curry and my wife had scampi and chips. So 5☆ for the food. When I came to pay, I was shocked at the drinks bill, £8.80 for a glass of wine and £5.75 for a pint of lager and lime and to add insult to injury, another 30p for a dash of lime. Absolutely disgusting.
Other places we frequent charge roughly £5 - £5.60 for a wine and £3.95 - £4.60 for my usual lager and lime.
Weatherspoons will do a meal with an alcoholic drink for roughly £12 - £14 depending on the type of meal.
We thought we would try the S+L for a change from Weatherspoons, and would have gone more in the future, but not at those drinks prices. They have lost custom, expect that's why the place was almost empty. Will go to Weathrespoons for our future meals.
Breakdown of the bill -
Katsu Curry. £12.45 5☆ 😀
Scampi and chips £11.95 5☆ 😀
Rose wine £8.80 1☆ 🤬
Pint of Lager £5.75 1☆ 🤬
Dash of lime £0.30p - 5☆ 🤬
Total. £39.25 2☆ ☹️
Would have left a tip, but no way at those drinks prices.
Went to the slug and lettuce in…
Went to the slug and lettuce in Liverpool for one of their brunches, All I got was a plate of about 6 chicken coujons and half a waffle I was still hungry after eating this and was told there is no other food offered for the brunch 😕 when I've previously gone for brunches the food keeps coming 🤷Also I don't drink alcohol so I asked if there was a special price, I was told they would knock a fiver off so I definitely didn't get my money's worth 😞 friends and my husband who I was dining with said the drinks were all watered down so definitely won't be dining here again 🤬
Do the toilets ever get cleaned?
Do the toilets ever get cleaned or maintained in S&L Reading? Have visited a few times over the last few years and the toilets are still in the same state as they were on my first visit. Have mentioned it to the staff on occasions, however, they are not interested.
Overflowing sanitary bins, no locks or broken locks on the toilet doors, loose toilet seats, generally disgusting, and lots of potential health hazards. And it’s not even 17:00 at the time of leaving this review! Grim.
But don’t worry ladies, at least both hand driers are working now and your 2-4-1 cocktails make up for you having to carry your used sanitary items around with you.
Don’t eat here
Went to the Woking branch for food and it was awful. Drink on the menu didn’t go through the app. Draught cola was very watery. Food was dry and totally tasteless. Had the Hawaiian vegan dish-the tofu was rock hard and tasteless. The rice was cold and bland. The burger with bacon was tepid and horrid texture. Very poor and definitely will not return. It wasn’t busy-can understand why!

Roisin served us and they absolutely slayed !!! can’t wait to go back again !! the service was so good, Roisin derives a raise !!!
S&L Solihull -poor
Food was not great. Part of the menu was unavailable. What I did get was greasy and unappetising. Service was non existent. I will not be eating there again.
Bristol - underwhelming food and service
Bristol
I was generally underwhelmed with this visit given the choices in Bristol. I don’t like the self service order at the counter model as you pay before you get anything but that’s the S&L model.
The chicken skewers starter was over cooked and difficult to cut and chew, the side salad was ok. Service was nonchalant and I wasn’t asked if my food was ok and it wasn’t!
