Stayed one night in the hotel and had dinner in the restaurant.
Arrived to a large clean car park with ample free parking.
Upon entering the reception we were greeted by friendly staff. Our bags were taken to our room.
The room was clean and fresh. Good range of TV channels. Comfortable bed. Tea/coffee facilities. Water and biscuits too.
A nice range of toiletries available.
Headed down to the restaurant for our evening meal. Again greeted by friendly staff making us feel welcome and comfortable. The waiting staff were very good. The food was excellent. Served beautifully on hot plates.
Very impressive customer service. Great restaurant. Great hotel. I’d definitely return and recommend.

Staff who care, a personal and unique experience

The stand out from our visit were the staff. You can tell they really care about you having a great experience. They knew it was my birthday and with little touches like a birthday message showing with a tune on our room TV waiting for us was a nice touch. A birthday themed dessert was also a nice surprise. Our waiter couldn’t have been any more attentive. Nothing was too much trouble and he had real warmth and personality to add that special something to the overall experience. The care taken with the decor also gives off this same vibe. The food was amazing from the evening meal through to the breakfast. The menu for the evening was Thai and Indian, so satisfying our differing preferences very nicely. The sauvignon blanc was quaffable with the Thai meal and I just had to have a Cobra with my dish.

The queen room (room 9) was very freshly turned out, from good furnishings to its newness. Aircon was provided and due to the time of year, the heater function worked well. The staff were receptive to the remote needing new batteries as the range was poor and the remote display was faint due to this too. The shower was warm but making it hotter wasn’t possible. This was also fed back, so hopefully they can do something about this for the future,

We chose this place as a great pit stop on the way home to Milton Keynes from our visit to the Cotswolds. Would we stay there again, hell yes.

Disappointing

Having seen this restaurant for years sitting alongside the Swindon to Oxford road, I had great expectations when I booked a table to meet with my children. The booking itself was easy enough although a deposit of £15 per head was required and this was followed with a reminder or two that we were restricted to just 2 hours and would lose the deposit if we were late for our table. Not really user friendly but it was an external app being utilised by the restaurant.

We had all studied the menu and decided what we wanted before we arrived, on time, lest we be hit with a financial penalty. However, what none of us has picked up on was the fact that it was a buffet style lunch. The service was attentive but the food really was disappointing. Not in terms of the taste and flavours, but the fact that the choice was limited and the food was tepid. Given this would be a mid-placed eatery in terms of price, hot food and choice should be a prerequisite.

The service and friendliness of the staff was excellent. Plates were cleared quickly and drinks orders were quick and efficient. I guess it helped that there appeared to be more staff than patrons. However, the service also came over as being rushed, I don’t think they had another group coming through, rather they were just looking to close the restaurant until the evening rush. A little more effort and this could have been an excellent experience. We were literally being ushered out as the two hour time limit was reached.

At a time when restaurants are complaining about a lack of custom and putting their prices up to compensate, they should be trying much, much harder to make each and every visit a memorable experience. Why threaten people with losing their deposits if they are a few minutes late? Why not offer a menu service rather than a buffet service or at least offer a good choice and ensure the food is hot? Why make your patrons feel rushed when they are paying nearly £30 a head to spend some quality time with family? We ended up in a freezing car park having a chat.

I had high expectations which is why I have been particularly critical of this establishment. It is midway between where my children and I live and would have been our go to restaurant 5 or 6 times a year. It was a is a missed opportunity. I suspect their dinner experience is miles better but, for lunch, they need to either up their game or not bother opening. For me, I felt short-changed in terms of time and value.
