Bad service

Shocking customer service my flights were cancelled due to covid 19 I tried to alter my dates on my insurance to my new holiday next year but they said I would need to pay a further 36 pound to swop the dates which was 11 pound more than the original insurance. When I tried to cancel they said I will receive no reimbursement.
Its not alot of cash but its the principle you would think they would try to help their customers out with whats going on!

Hi Daniel Salt,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. My name is Sarah and I am one of the team at Spectrum travel insurance.

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. We are offering customers the option to amend their policy dates provided the new dates are within 18 months of your original policy purchase date. If this is not possible, we are offering customers the appropriate refund of their policy based on the terms and conditions: https://www.spectrumtravelinsurance.co.uk/terms-and-conditions

If you have travelled on the policy, or submitted a claim, we are unable to offer a refund as we would consider the policy to have been used.

If you have received communications contradictory to the above, please let me know at responses@tifgroup.co.uk and I can investigate on your behalf.

Kind regards,
Sarah

Very dishonest company.

AVOID

AVOID, poor customer service. Very conflicting information.
I booked my holiday on 1st feb and booked insurance on 13th of march. Nowhere on the website or policy does it state that i wouldn't be covered for covid19 related issues. So i have recently emailed to ask if i would be covered for covid-19 cancellations and they would not asnwer yes you are covered or no you re not covered, they just copied and pasted a statement that contradicts its-self, saying I'm covered for cancellations and then saying im not! They then inform me that i wont be entitled to any money back even though they're the ones who have been misleading.
They have also said that any policies booked after 3rd of march aren't covered for covid-19, but they DID NOT state this at the time of booking.
I have requested to cancel my policy, but i will never recommend this company to anyone.

We use the 3rd March date as this is when COVID became a 'known event' and any claims are unlikely to be paid for COVID past this point. I have fed your comments around the 3rd March back to relevant teams, but if you would like me to raise a complaint please contact me with your reference number and date of birth at the email address mentioned above.

Avoid at all costs!

Avoid at all costs!! Bought my policy in early march for a holiday in august before the fco advised against all travel.
Just had my holiday cancelled so asked for a refund and was only offered 50% and minus £15 admin fee stating that I was outside of the 28 days cooling off period.
I will be filing a complaint with ombudsman!
I had another trip in june cancelled and had a policy with somebody else and they gave me full refund no questions asked.

Hi Mr Kinahan,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. My name is Sarah and I am a member of the Spectrum travel insurance team.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're dissatisfied with our refund policy. This policy is detailed in your policy documents at time of purchase, as well as on our website.

Whilst I completely appreciate that another provider refunded you in full, different providers have different terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are available for review and a full refund when your policy is cancelled within the cooling-off period, in the event that you decide that the policy does not fit your needs.

I have passed your comments on to the relevant teams for feedback, but if you wish for me to raise a complaint on your behalf, please contact me at responses@tifgroup.co.uk, and I will be more than happy to help.

Kind regards,

0 stars would be more accurate!

0 stars would be more accurate! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Quick to take your money but even faster to inform you that they won't cover anything (although legally suspect they would lose - await outcome of current High Court review of insurance policy wordings). Website useless. Can't find your 'policy' etc. Obfuscate and delay to avoid refunding customers or paying claims. Terrible. Give insurers a bad name.

You should be ashamed of yourselves...

Took out a policy before COVID-19 for a family trip to Florida. Holiday now cancelled and contacted the company to cancel the policy as no longer required. No need to claim on the insurance policy as the travel agent has been more than helpful in cancelling the trip. Following 'deductions' I have been offered a 'refund' of around 30% which I have to wait 7-10 days for (in the 21st century payments can be made next day)???! A company clearly looking to benefit from the pandemic, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

26/06/20 - And the relevant team will do what with my review? Do my comments above not suggest that I am making a complaint, although I'm not sure what good that will do as you will just refer back to the policy wording. I am aware it is in the wording as I read them when taking out the policy, my point was around doing the right thing in this strange world we find ourselves in. It is a choice you made to do what you have done and benefit from the pandemic.

Should be away now but of course like…

Should be away now but of course like so many holiday cancelled asked by online form 10 weeks ago to change my dates on policy and had a reply asking to confirm new dates ect
I replied almost 10 weeks ago as soon as they emailed me with info they asked for but almost 10 weeks have past and start date of policy was 5 days ago and not herd anything From them. Just emailed again now and was going to wait to see if I get a reply but they don’t deserve me waiting to leave review as they had Almost 10 weeks and should contact people before start date of policy as we are not allowed to travel because of Covid travel restrictions.
Absolutely disgusted and won’t be using them again

Warning for any Covid-19 claims

I am extremely unhappy with the outcome of my claim and appeal. I had a policy that was taken out BEFORE the FCO advised against all but essential travel. This was the advice given by all the experts with regards to the laws surrounding travel insurance policies. I also ensured that I had exactly the correct type of policy and any extras such as travel disruption cover were selected. The illogical reason they gave for not paying the claim of £384.65 for my trip was that Covid-19 was in the media throughout February and as such any cancellations would be expected. By their logic, this means they would not pay out on any claims due to Covid-19 for policies bought from mid February onwards. This is not what the law says. Restrictions only apply once the FCO advices against travel.
I wish to file a formal complaint, which can be dealt with by the appropriate department and if necessary be escalated to the Financial Ombudsman.

Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service. My holiday has been cancelled by jet2 due to covid 19. Only offered 50% refund or change the dates and use the policy within 12 months however been informed that policy won't then cover any cancellations or illness related to covid 19 or any mutations of it so it's useless having it.

With regards to your policy cover, although like many other providers, we can no longer offer cover for cancellation as a result of COVID19, we do still offer coronavirus cover should you contract it whilst abroad and need medical assistance. In addition, we still offer all the cover we offered before coronavirus, so should anything happen on your trip we would still be able to offer that protection for both you and your trip.

Spectrum show no good will to present situation

I have just been "invited" to renew my annual travel insurance with Spectrum with immediate effect despite the fact that because of government restrictions on travelling I have not been able to take advantage of the insurance for three months. I have asked them nicely if they would care to extend the cover but they have refused point blank.
As you guessed I will not be renewing with them and shall be advising others not to use this company SPECTRUM. It is a shame that for a few pounds goodwill they will be losing many customers as a result

Hi Mr Philip,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. My name is Sarah and I am one of the Spectrum travel insurance team.

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been left disappointed with your experience with us. I'm afraid that we are unable to defer or extend annual multi trip policies as we would have covered you for any previous travel and the limit for cover on your particular type of multi trip policy is 12 months.

Within your renewal documentation, you may have noticed that we are now offering 15 months cover for the price of 12, to allow for the 3 months that people may be unable to travel, but allowing them to protect their trip sooner.

I can completely understand your frustration, so have passed your comments on to the relevant teams to review.

Worst insurance company ever

Would have given zero stars if there was an option, like previous comments, I have taken travel insurance out with this company several times, and being an organised person I take it a year in advance usually, however that is obviously a mistake as with the coronavirus they have stopped me fifty percent because of when I took the policy out plus a further cancellation charge, so I have in fact lost the majority of my insurance, my sister went with a reputable company and they gave her a full refund as they said it was exceptional circumstances, lesson learnt, pick a reputable company, I will never use spectrum again!

Just had response from Sarah at Spectrum, only taken 13 days, and I have emailed her as suggested, be interested to know if it does any good, will keep this review updated!

Still no response, funny how companies put an answer on here as if they intend helping but then do absolutely nothing, all I can say is keep away from Spectrum as if anything goes wrong they won't help!!

Spectrum never use again

I’ve used this company for the last 3 holidays abroad but I will never use again !! Booked insurance well in advance after booking holiday to Rhodes , upon the cancellation by Jet2 due to vivid 19 I contact spectrum to see if I could claim my money back as I’ve not used policy. Their reply was , because I’ve had the insurance 97 days then cancelled I’m only offered 50% of my policy back ( bearing in mind I had no choice but to cancel & the policy was never used ) they said their accounts would be in touch with the amount to be refunded, my policy cost £49 , they offered 50% less an admin charge ( charge for doing what I don’t know ) my offer £5.08 , total joke of a company , so they took over £15 admin fee , I hope this company takes a look at its self , your an embarrassment.

Spent £8k on a holiday which is now not…

Spent £8k on a holiday which is now not covered as Spectrum have refused to renew my insurance because of a long term medical condition that they now say they will not cover. They have arbitrarily altered their conditions. If I re-insure with another company the money is clearly not covered by them so effectively no insurance. Shysters. Spectrum replied but did not refute accuracy of what I stated. Saga have now insured me and it has cost less but clearly the £8K I spent whilst with Spectrum is now uninsured thanks to Spectrum. My review stands and is corroborated. Would never use them again if this is an example of how they behave.

AVOID AT ALL COST.. Never again.

Never again.. Like many unfortunate customers caught up in the Covid 19..canceled flight had to book new emergency flights. make a claim told by a colleague that I was able claim.

Curtialment Claim rejected due to supposedly I was aware of covid. I have been back and forth and just received update from complaint officer stating its been rejected.

All they do is respond with a load of information total irrelevant to make it look like they have investigated the claim and appeal.

I have sent an email to Martin Lewis and would advice all who have been stung by this company to go through the financial ombudsman service.

Media also to be contacted regarding this..!!

Next time it's going to be Co Op or AXA who actually helped customers by covering them for covid 19 if they had booked their insurance before March 15th..

Pay a bit extra and go with some reputable..

AVOID AVOID

Tif Group /Spectrum: I don't want to contact you as you will recycle the same information again and again from what I have already heard from you.
I am In the process of getting case heard by financial Ombudsman..!!

AVOID totally confused staff who are not clear on refund policy, have be battling now for some weeks to get a full refund as promised in an email from one of their team on the 30th March and prior to that. No mention of it being only 50%. Disgusting company to deal with responses are short and they don’t even follow their own complaints process as outlined on the website.

This one is not going away guys, I will take to FOS and media. Disgraceful how you are handling the current situation, companies that treat there customer with respect will be the ones that survive, those that don’t won’t

Hi Mr Brady,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. My name is Sarah and I am one of the Spectrum Travel Insurance team.

I'm so sorry to hear that you have experienced such confusion over our refund policy, and can completely understand why you are frustrated. I will pick this up with the team involved to ensure the correct information is being communicated moving forwards.

For clarification, your cancellation rights are detailed within our policy documentation when you get a quote or make a purchase from us. You have a 14-day cooling-off period to review your documentation to see if it suits you, and are entitled to a free refund if you decide to cancel your policy within this period.

For single trip policies - In the event that you have not travelled and are not claiming on the policy, a refund of 50% of the policy premium and any additional premium applied to your existing medical conditions will apply.

For multi trip policies - Provided you have not made a claim on the policy and you confirm in writing that there is no claim pending, should you choose to cancel and understand that all benefits of the policy will be cancelled, we will refund 5% of the total premium paid, for each full calendar month remaining on the policy from the date of cancellation.

I'm also concerned to hear your feedback about our Complaints process. Please can you email me further details at responses@tifgroup.co.uk to allow me to investigate?

Kind regards,
Sarah

They do not pay out when they should

Not paying out for CANCELLED flights.....when it’s part of the insurance. Making it out that we missed the flight....we did not! IT WAS CANCELLED and out of our control.

Then they send an email asking for the details and to say they will look into it. LOAD OF RUBBISH! THEY ALREADY HAVE THE DETAILS! Yes its frustrating - three months its taken us so far to get nowhere. RIDICULOUS service... if you can call it "service".

Poor customer service won't let me cancel

The Policy Wording says you can email them to cancel within 14 days (cooling off period). I did this and they replied saying they can't do it by email and I'd have to phone them (I don't have hours to spend on hold).

Then they put an FAQ on their website saying you can cancel by email. I pointed this out to them and they have not bothered to respond.

Breaching contract, making up new terms, AVOID AT ALL COSTS

**Update - initially my complaint was handled poorly and they gave a vague response which did not uphold my complaint so I was going to take to ombudsman.
A couple weeks later I received an email stating they agree that being told that I cannot claim for anything that was booked on a non refundable basis was incorrect and they agreed with that part of my complaint.

Since then I also received an email stating I can move my policy to a New holiday or receive 50% refund and I have opted to change to a new holiday as this policy covers medically for Covid-19 which was essential for us rebooking and insurance for my husband is not cheap.
Initially they stated they would not cover my husband at all due to his health conditions, but Mandy was in our corner and continues to go back to the underwriters with our reasons why he should be covered (his health has not changed) and they did cover him. I likely would not ever pay for insurance with Spectrum again given the experience we have had, but they have slightly redeemed themselves and hopefully we won’t need to use it for our rebooked holiday for 2021**

In a nutshell and keeping this brief (unlike my 5 page complaint, Spectrum Travel have said they will not cover me at all even though their terms cover for FCO advice not to travel. DO NOT BOOK A POLICY WITH THEM. Read the positive reviews, they all said how easy it is for them to take your money when you book, but it’s a different story if you need to claim.

They have made up a new term in their policy that says, if it’s not written in the policy you CAN claim it, and it’s NOT in the exclusions, you can’t claim it regardless.

They have said they will not cover anything that was booked on a no-cancellation contract (eg excursions, hotels) because when we booked with our providers and knew it was no cancellation, that means we can’t claim on insurance as we knew it was not refundable! It doesn’t say that anywhere in policy wording (under what we don’t cover or general exclusions) so they are making up new exclusions as they go along.

They also refuse to cover anything if airline/ tour operator refuse to refund. Again, it doesn’t say this clearly ANYWHERE.

I asked “Edie” 5 times to show me where in the policy wording it says I can’t make a claim in the circumstances I laid out in my email, and she couldn’t!! She just said the policy wording is there to view at the time of booking and it’s “clear” that I can’t claim.

Official complaint email sent and I fully intend to take this up with the ombudsman.
