I strongly do not recommend Splend and their business partner Kwik Fit Stevenage based on my recent experience.
One week before my MOT appointment, I went to Kwik Fit Stevenage and asked them to check and measure all four tyres on my vehicle. I was told that both front tyres needed replacing. I then asked them to book my MOT for 18 May.
On 18 May, I attended my MOT appointment at Kwik Fit Stevenage. The MOT passed, but I was told the front tyres were at 2 mm and needed replacing immediately. However, I was then informed that the tyres were not available because Splend wanted budget tyres ordered instead. I was told to return on Wednesday 20 May.
I stopped working and returned for the appointment on 20 May, losing both time and money. After waiting around 15–20 minutes, I was told the tyres had still not arrived. I asked why nobody had informed me by phone beforehand, as I could have continued working instead of wasting my time driving there and waiting. They apologised and told me to come back the following day.
Then, on Thursday morning while I was working, Kwik Fit Stevenage called me again to say the tyres still had not arrived and that the next available appointment would be Saturday 22 May at 10:30.
At that point, after already losing time twice and having appointments repeatedly cancelled, I decided I could not continue driving with tyres at 2 mm tread depth while carrying passengers. I was not prepared to risk being stopped by the police and receiving 3 penalty points per tyre because of delays caused by Splend’s business partner.
Splend told to Kwik Fit that I I wanted tyres straight away I had to pay £.80 extra for each tyre.
I therefore replaced the tyres myself at my own expense, paying £80 per tyre, and sent the invoice to Splend. Splend then refused reimbursement simply because the tyres were not replaced by Kwik Fit.
The problem was created entirely by Kwik Fit, which is Splend’s business partner, not mine. My responsibility ends when I pay my weekly rental payment on time every week — which Splend is always happy to collect immediately.
Very disappointing experience and poor support for drivers who are simply trying to stay safe, legal and continue working.
