Was recovered and brought back home. Need many tows and an overnight stay. The team kept us informed all the way and made several welfare checks many thanks
I have been with Start Rescue for a number of years. They are the best around as far as I'm concerned. My latest breakdown, I was on my own on a very busy road which was scary. They had recovery with me within 20mins.
Our car broke down not far from civilisation, but it still took over five hours for help to arrive despite multiple calls. My elderly wife and I were left stranded in a dark lay-by and quite upset.
Sometime after I complained and moved on, so I was surprised when Start Rescue followed up. The five stars are for how they handled it. They took real responsibility, which is rare. I’d use them again.
Been with Start Rescue for a long time but fortunately I’m haven’t had to use their service until recently. Then twice in a matter of days. The 2nd mechanic was patient and efficient and knowledgeable and had the problem fixed and a new battery fitted and I haven’t thankfully had a problem since.

Start Rescue attended my broken down vehicle at night and assessed that it was not a roadside repair. They then recovered the vehicle to my home. The whole experience was pleasant.
When my car suffered a major breakdown which my local garage was unable to fix, it needed to go to a specialist garage several miles away. I had to call Start Rescue on three separate occasions within a six week period before it was finally fixed. Start Rescue responded immediately and at no time did I experience any problems with their call handlers or their Rescue and Recovery service. I have just renewed my policy and my premiums have only increased by £4 for my Silver Policy. I wouldn’t dream of giving my business to anybody else.
Excellent customer service, polite and friendly. I didn't have to wait too long before being rescued. The rescue driver was efficient, chatty and polite. I then received a call back from customer service to check all was ok. Very impressed.

The breakdown company phoned me very quickly after I had reported the incident to Start Rescue and the mechanic arrived within 20mins.
The fault with the clutch on my car couldn't be rectified at the roadside so had to be taken to my local garage where I was dropped off too.

My son had a accident the side window was smashed start refused to bring him home with accident damage cost us 450 pound to get him home and then it was a recovery firm that would of done it for start anyway I'm not happy at all and have been a customer for several years

I have been a member of Start Rescue since July-2020 including nationwide recovery.
On 23-March-2026 on a journey from Leeds to our home in Dundee, our car started making a loud noise that sounded like grinding brakes. As we were near to Whitley Bay, we drove to a relative’s house from where I phoned Start Rescue. Start Rescue sent a mechanic from Durham (1 hour away), which we found surprising. When asked why they didn’t have a mechanic in Newcastle, they replied that the mechanic was chosen from availability at the time of the call.
On inspecting the car, the mechanic concluded that the issue was that the brake pad had worn-off and likely damaged the disc in the process. The mechanic advised we would need to contact Start Rescue for the next steps. When asked if Start Rescue would arrange a tow vehicle to take us back to Dundee, he indicated they would likely first try to see if a local garage could repair the car. If a tow was needed, he indicated this would likely involve more than one tow vehicle (i.e., a shuttle service) given the distance.
In a follow-up call, we were unimpressed to learn that Start Rescue considered we were not covered for rescue as they considered the car had not been properly maintained, quoting clause 15. The car was only purchased in August 2025 and a service was conducted at that time by our local garage with no issues noted requiring repair. Start Rescue indicated that they had checked the MOT history and found reference to brakes requiring repair for the MOT in 2024 and 2025 before our purchase of the vehicle.
As a result of Start Rescue failing to provide support, we contacted KwikFit who said they could take a look at the car only the following day. Other garages contacted had no earlier capacity. I had to get the train home, as I had work the following day. KwikFit did a full assessment of the brakes and concluded that only the front left brake pad had failed. They considered this was due to it having been set tighter than usual such that it had worn prematurely compared to the other brakes. Regarding the MOT history report, upon checking this myself, I found it was referring to only the rear brakes being thin. The KwikFit assessment did not reveal any issues with the rear brakes, so they had likely been replaced at the time of the 2025 MOT.
In my opinion, Start Rescue were looking for any means by which they could avoid a costly tow to Dundee. I am left with no confidence in the service they provide and will not be renewing with them and have informed friends, family and colleagues of my experience. I had moved to them from The AA given they were much cheaper; I now see this as being a false economy and will likely return to The AA.

Easy to contact. Helpful friendly staff. Only waited about 45 minutes and had two phone calls and several messages checking on me. Darryl the driver with the retrieval vehicle was friendly and efficient. He was also amazing with his maneuvering of the truck.

I was stranded 200 miles away from home on a weekend. Start rescue were brilliant from start to finish. They can't of to assess the car then arranged for me and the car to be taken home.
Because if the distance and the time of night it meant swapping drivers half way. They arranged everything. It was seamless. I can't recommend this company enough
