Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 269 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the claims process, finding that the company often denied claims or offered insufficient payouts, even for long-standing customers. Customers also frequently reported issues with customer service, citing unhelpful representatives, difficulty reaching managers, and a lack of communication regarding their claims. The pricing was also a common point of contention, with many feeling that rates were excessively high and increased frequently without clear justification. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the staff, highlighting specific agents who were professional, efficient, and helpful in guiding them through processes or providing quotes. Some reviewers also mentioned receiving excellent service from individual staff members who went above and beyond to assist them.

Terrible Claim Service

On Sept 4th, 2025 I had an accident where a deer jumped out in front of my car and caused quite a bit of damage. I had my car towed to a State Farm recommend body shop, Wray's Body Shop, in Bedford, Virginia. That was my first mistake because the body shop did a terrible job and never got all the repairs completed and they released the car to me knowing there was still a problem. When I called the body shop, he first told me to bring the car back, but he called me back to tell me that he called State Farm what he thought was wrong (yet he didn't bother to add the damage and repair to the claim) and told me to call them to see what State Farm needed to get the other damage fixed. State Farm told me that the Body owner of Wray's Body said that he believed the damage was from an improper tow, therefore they would need to open another claim and I would have to pay another $500 deductible if they determined it was further damaged from an improper tow. However, I let them know that the owner of Wray's Body shop never saw how my car was towed, but I pictures to prove that the tow job was done correctly. So they took the body owners word for it, and then came the delays. .My local State Farm office was of absolutely no help. I took my car to another body shop and they informed me right away that the car was unsafe to drive. The deer accident had done a lot of damage to the suspension and differential. Finally State farm sent a third party adjuster (they don't have their own anymore). The adjuster wanted to take pictures but the new body shop let the adjuster know that taking the pictures will not tell the story that you have to ride in it. Once the adjuster did that she realized there was a bigger problem and that indeed the repairs were incomplete. State Farm still dragged their feet and after 6 months, finally declared the vehicle a total loss and settled the claim under the original claim number. This was totally unacceptable service and I, as of today, moved my insurance coverage to another carrier.

State Farm’s customer service is a…

State Farm’s customer service is a masterclass in incompetence. My adjuster, Noah Preer, claimed he tried to reach me 13 times, blaming a "wrong number"—despite his supervisor, Bobby, having the correct one all along.
When I confronted Noah about lying to third parties by claiming I was unresponsive, he became irate. He mistook my volume for yelling, ignoring the fact that I am hard of hearing. Rather than showing professional courtesy, he was condescending and dismissive of my disability. To top it off, he hung up the moment I tried to provide the police report numbers. Like a good neighbor? Not even close.

State Farm will quiet quit on you

I had 3 policies with State Farm. A year ago, I got a notification from my lender that my house policy lapsed -- State Farm didn't let me know so I quickly got insurance from another company for that property.

They never explained why. My agent and his staff were useless -- they didn't take the lapse seriously and couldn't explain why it happened and why I wasn't notified.

History repeats. The same thing just happened to one of my remaining policies even though my mortgage company sent the payment to them, on time. Agent couldn't explain and claimed I had no policy, but it's right there in my history.

This quiet quitting is dangerous and I won't put myself at risk again with State Farm.

State Farm policy cancellation

like many of the reviewers. When I needed to use my insurance after 15+ years because two of the five drivers in our household got into car accidents during snowstorms. One no fault and one at fault. First claims we’ve ever put in for over 15 years.
They bullied us into taking a total loss claim saying that we would not be able to reinsure the car fully if we fixed it. They lowballed us on the amount being paid. Due to the threat of not being able to insure the car again, we went with the total loss.
A week later, they canceled our policy for the entire household.
what’s the point of having insurance if you can’t use it when needed?
The amount we paid in is astronomically more than they paid out.
Customer service locally was fantastic, but they can’t do anything because of the underwriters decision-making process.
Shame on you, State Farm. Shame on you.

DO NOT WORK WITH THEM, TRUST ME!

If I could do 0 stars I would. This company does not care how long you've been with them, my mom has been with them since she was 16 years old and she put all her babies on statefarm. They absolutely do not care, even when fully covered they will still screw you over. NEVER HAVE NINA OR VICTORIA AS UR HANDLER, they screwed me over. They promised me 5,000 for my car (had the papers signed and everything) but then all the sudden nina said she just got the pictures of my car in (just so yk the car was with them for about 2 weeks when they finally got the pictures) they rlly dont do shit. They're now offering 4,600 bc of the damage in the back, there is no damage in the back btw. Also they wouldn't extend my rental (only had the rental for a week) last time i got into a car crash they did extend it for me, i asked them why did they extend last time and couldn't give me an answer, until i called another guy. This guy who was from statefarm but not my handler couldn't figure out why my handlers wouldn't extend it. He said "its rlly up to ur handlers discretion wether they want to extend it or not, but i will call them to plead ur case" so with that being said they can screw u over if they feel like it

State Farms covers my home & autos

State Farms covers my home & autos. Thirty years of paying high premiums without 1 claim for what we thought was premium insurance coverage. We were the victims of major lighting strike of a large tree in our yard. It was an explosion, blinding bright light. I was just pulling it to our driveway. I thought our house had exploded and my husband was dead. Within a month electrical problems started. Major appliances failing. Once we realized it wasn't bad luck we filed a claim. State Farm denied claim due to failure of proof . Our tree is the proof and so our are repair bills. If you have State Farm Insurance you better be wealthy or plan on draining your retirement. They take your premiums but refuse to pay claims.

State Farm is a scam company

State Farm is a scam company. I’ve been with them for many years and when I was hit by someone who ran a red light, they were not there for me. They spent 5 weeks drawing out the determination which finally ended in a total loss. I had to call them multiple times a week to get them moving on the claim and it still took 5 weeks. Then after I signed and accepted the valuation that explicitly said they would not be charging me for storage, they called me 2 days later and said I had to pay for storage. I had signed my vehicle over to them, they paid it off, I have it in writing that they would not be charging for storage, and now they’re saying I owe the storage fees for the 5 weeks they took. They told me they were going to take the amount out of what they still owe me and I had no choice, but I don’t even know if they have picked up the vehicle since I haven’t received an invoice or a check yet. They’re probably accumulating more storage charges that they’re going to give me later, but I can’t get a hold of anyone to help me and I’ve sent several emails. Stay so far away from this company, and don’t let anyone you care about go with State Farm.

After sustaining considerable wind

After sustaining considerable wind damage to our fence, we called to file a claim and we were immediately told that State Farm would not accept our claim and denied us any further recourse.
Like a bad neighbor, State Farm doesn’t care. Think long and hard about purchasing homeowners insurance with State Farm, they like the premiums but don’t like paying out claims.
Obviously, we have severed ties with them and hope our experience will help others to learn from our experience.

Inaccurate billing Inaccurate loan information

Inaccurate billing be careful for several years I've paid a additional 15.00 a month to my life insurance. Now one statement says its satisfied on two dates in 2025. Now they state 1.38 is available for loan and 108.00 is owed for interest. What happened to the 180.
00 extra payments you received voluntary in 2025 and previous years. Another time back in December of 2025 they tried to say I still owed 231.96 on a auto insurance policy I canceled. It was a lie and wrong billing. After I reported it I was given a refund. I'm sharing my personal information to help other review there accounts to make sure they are billed correctly.

No words

No words can describe how much content, anger, dislike, etc that I have for a single company. Well, at least words that won't be censored, redacted, or otherwise. So, on that I'll just keep it short and warn anyone tempted by their low rate quote. There's a reason. My family and I had been with them for over ten years in two different states. Never a single claim. Rates doubled quickly in the first 5 years, but whatever, I just figured inflation/covid.... everything is going up. Then we get a hail storm and not long after I realize SF is not a "Good Neighbor." They're the neighbor that will screw you over any chance they get; ignore you when you ask for help; and report you to the HOA board when you don't shut your garage door within 5 minutes of being home.

Please! Don't take my word for it though, find out for yourself. The more people that do, the quicker this pathetic excuse of an insurance company will unravel.

If 0 stars was an option I would choose…

If 0 stars was an option I would choose it. I've been a loyal Statefarm customer for years now. I recently got into a wreck due to the recent heavy February snow. I got a rental from Enterprise through Statefarm and was worried about my car rental due date being on the 7th of March because after calling the Body Shop, I was told that my car won't be finished anytime soon. So I called to asked the Statefarm Claims Department about it and was informed from the Statefarm Claims Department that Enterprise will reach out to Statefarm and they will extend it if needed and for me not to worry about it since my car is still in the body shop. Today 5 days past the due date of the car rental return and Enterprised called and said that Statefarm didn't let them until just over the weekend and they just noticed that my rental is due. I called the Statefarm Claims Department and they said that Enterpise left them a note in their system saying that Enterprise left me a voicemail on the 5th of March, but after checking I don't have any voicemail from Enterprise or anyone actually at all. The only voicemail I have was from today, March 12th that was left by Enterprise. I question them that if Enterprise left them a note in (their system) about leaving me a voicemail, no one bother to give me a call? The Statefarm Claims Department said that on their recorded line from when (I called them) on the 13th of February, I was informed of the due date and it's not their job to follow up with me. I have to pay the 5 days past out of pocket. It is roughly 200 bucks out of pocket. After my car is fixed, I am changing car insurance. 0 accountability from the claims department, poor handling of a mistake they made and tried to cover it up. All that money over the years I've been paying to this Company, what a waste. Please look elsewhere for car insurance, you've been warned.

20+ Years of Loyalty — and This Is How They Treat Long-Term Customers

We've been dealing with State Farm for over six weeks following a car accident, and the experience has been an absolute nightmare. They declared our car “totaled” but refused to let us take it to our own mechanic for verification. Instead, they had it towed to the furthest State Fair repair shop possible — clearly a move to make it harder to get independent quotes.

When we provided multiple comparable listings showing our vehicle’s actual market value, all $5–8K higher than their payout offer, they basically shrugged and said, “Oh well.” To make things worse, they warned that if we went to arbitration, the value could be lowered — which came across as a thinly veiled threat rather than a fair process.

After more than 20 years with this company — insuring our home, vehicles, RV, and UTVs — this is the breaking point. Their lack of transparency, fairness, and basic customer respect has completely destroyed our trust. We’ll be taking all of our policies elsewhere and would strongly caution others to think twice before doing business with them.

Frustrating Customer Service and Lack of Response

I have been trying to retrieve an archived claim from 2002 related to a bicycle accident. State Farm repeatedly asks for a claim number I do not have and insists I call their 800 number, even though I am currently overseas and submitted all requested documentation via their secure link. Despite submitting the documents, I have received no acknowledgement or feedback. Every email I receive is the same automated response. The process has been extremely frustrating, slow, and unhelpful, and it seems there is little understanding or flexibility for long-standing, legitimate claims.

Avoid State Farm Homeowners Insurance

Major wind and hail storm came through our small neighborhood of about 30 homes. Ripped off shingles and we had water leaking in multiple rooms through the drywall. 28 of the 30 homes in my neighborhood got a new roof covered by insurance except for me and the other house with State Farm. State Farm acknowledged hail and wind damage and sent me a check for $600, which is laughable. I've been with them for 30 years and spend over $700 a month across at least 7 policies. Not to mention I have at least 20 other family members that use them as well.

Me and my mother have been customers of…

Me and my mother have been customers of State Farm Insurance for a long time. We both have car insurance with them and life insurance for her. But now state farm wants to lie about her life insurance and say we owe for 2 or 3 months. I called the 1800 number and the lady I spoke with about my mother's life insurance was very rude and lied on me and said I was yelling at her. They don't care about the customer. They're going to lose my business for car insurance after all this, and they may lose all our business. They lie and cheat their paying customers. They charge me almost 200 dollars a month for full coverage on a 2016 Altima that's way too high.

Do NOT use their Life Insurance

I have been completely blind sided after my mother’s recent death.

Her father was a State Farm agent. He took 2 life insurance policies out for her when she was 15 yrs old.

Now, I learn, after 55 yrs of faithful payments, the value is a total of $24,000….just a few thousand more than what was paid in. So they truly leached off of us all this time.

I am both horrified and devastated on top of the recent loss.

Worst scamming insurance company ever

Worst scamming insurance company ever. They claim you can take your car anywhere you want but use a low payout and say you have to pay the difference even if it was their drivers fault. Or you can take it to their approved shop so they can do a hack job for low price they willing to cough out. Sounds like a scam to me.
