I recently had repair work carried out on my car by Steer Automotive following a non-fault accident. While I’m pleased with the quality of the work completed, the overall experience was quite frustrating.
My booking was rescheduled three times, which was already inconvenient, but more frustrating was the constant movement of the estimated repair completion date — this changed around 16 times. When you’re simply trying to get your own vehicle back, this level of uncertainty is incredibly frustrating.
Communication from the Tamworth branch was also disappointing. On several occasions when I called, I spoke with Lorraine and Ian, who both came across as abrupt and not particularly helpful, as though they didn’t really want to assist. This made the whole process feel unnecessarily difficult.
At one point, I even had to involve my insurance company due to the lack of clear communication and updates from Steer, which shouldn’t have been necessary.
When I visited the branch, the reception experience also wasn’t very professional, as lunch was being eaten at the front desk, with a noticeable odour — not the best impression for customers.
Once the work was completed, things moved quickly in terms of taking payment and arranging collection, which I appreciated. As mentioned, I am happy with the standard of the repair itself.
However, the delays, lack of communication, and customer service at the Tamworth branch really let the experience down. There is definitely room for improvement to match the quality of the repair work.

Excellent service from Jamie and the team in Portsmouth. Smooth collection and drop off of my vehicle and courtesy car.
Kept informed and updated throughout the works which were completed to a high standard.
Would highly recommend.
Thank you

My car had been damaged and when I left the car to be assessed the reception team provided clear details on the process. During the process they kept me fully informed on each stage which was spread over a couple of weeks due to having to wait for the replacement bodywork to be delivered. The cars provided while they replaced the damaged bumper were clean and perfect for my requirements. The work done to the bodywork was completed to an excellent standard and overall I found all the staff to be friendly and professional at all time.

Steer Bishops Stortford, don't answer the phone, can't leave message as box is full, deny they have had authority to carry out work, have had my car two weeks with no work done, I was persuaded to sign up to extra insurance at £8 a day. Some sort of scam going on here.
Heard from Insurance company - they can't get hold of them either.

Brilliant service from start to finish - collected and returned my car, job done efficiently and it came back cleaned which was a lovely unexpected bonus! Brilliant company

Avoid Steer Edinburgh at all costs!
Insurance repair job. Delay in booking car in and this was only done TWO weeks after they requested online photos of car because I contacted them to chase it up. When they inspected car, said it was wheel damage only, subsequently turned out to also have panel damage which they only noticed ON DAY they were going to hand car back, despite having it for over a week at that stage. Then took another week and a bit for that repair meaning that they had the car for over 3 weeks before I got it back.
Also replaced tyre with inferior quality tyre.
Emails & phone calls to them go unanswered, despite being assured that “manager will contact you when he comes out of his meeting”. That was about one week ago & despite daily emails, nothing.
No customer care whatsoever.

When you people like Tracey, Alex, Ruby, Emma I believe there’s not much you can accept. They only get defensive and the workmanship poor.
My car was meant to be there for a week now it’s been a month!!!! 😡
They damaged my car, broke trims, and when I pointed it they denied. They couldn’t even match the paint colour and then make excuses that the car is in the shade, their lighting inside id different. Not my problem you’ll need to match the paint as close as possible if not the same and not make excuses. They broke my central locking system and they tried to do a poor fix which when I visited on the first try it went again. They say the mirror the door lock fixes itself - if your a car tech there’s a joke for you. Negligence of my vehicle. Banging the doors like it will fix itself. Causing further wear and tear to the locking system. No no no you guys have been unable to fix the car but cause other damages and not even take responsibility. You’ll tried to deliver the car to me that way good thing I inspected it there. Not what I expected. My lawyers will be contact. Horrible horrible experiences. I have been making regular trips to make sure work is going well but no progress at all the same problems are still there. They touched the other parts of my car that they didn’t have to for what reason I don’t know, to cover for the damage. Tracey thinks she can get her mechanics to fix my door mirror and think I’m a fool to believe her. She tells me the door lock makes the sound it does because the door is not closed properly whereas I saw the door closed she doesn’t know abt cars. I mean they screwed with my vehicle now it’s too late!

My insurer, via FMG, arranged for my car (panel damage from a Deer! ) to be repaired by Steer. I was initially advised that the repair would take around 15 days, which was fine. On dropping the car off, I told them that a hire car was not required. Subsequently, the 15 day repair only took just over a week.....
When I went to collect my car I found that the repair was almost as bad as the original damage and I rejected the repair and left the car with them. It took them, around, 7 days to contact me to advise me that the car was about to go back into the body shop and that they would call me the next day regarding progress. Of course, that didn't happen. It took them another week to tell me that it was ready for collection. It was only at this point that I received an apology. I would have thought the apology was warranted on the day I rejected the repair or a phone call from the workshop manager the next day but, nah. To wit, the car was not checked after the original repair or after the paint went on. They are outstandingly bad at communication and, quite honestly, they are stealing a living. Yes, plenty of reviews here, gushing with praise but my experience will hardly be unique. If your insurer directs you to this company, refuse and find another body shop. PS: I knew it wasn't going to be great when I walked into the 'Reception' area which is basically a room with a threadbare, filthy carpet and desks sprinkled around, no chairs, no proper reception point manned by a member of staff, no comfy chairs to sit in, tea/coffee machines, nothing, nada. It's 2026, where is the professionalism?

Avoid Steer at all costs is my advice, i wish i had. My mini went in for repair in November 2025 in the Norwich branch for a new bonnet after someone reversed into it. After 3 or 4 unsuccessful attempts to fob me off with a very poor fitting bonnet I escalated it further. Quality control is non existent. It took an independent engineer to say how poor it was for them finally to rectify it 4 months later. The worse part is they gave it to me back to drive with a broken bonnet catch while the claim was being escalated - highly dangerous

Steer Automotive did a great job repairing my van, the colour match on the bumper was perfect and I got it back looking spotless, they didn’t have to clean the van for me but I feel that is the sign of a premium service. Communication was spot on and the turnaround was very quick considering the damage incurred

Steer was amazing from start to finish.
They sent regular updates which was very reassuring.
My car was repaired fairly quickly, I had it back within ten days of the accident!
I would definitely use Steer again.
They even delivered my car back to my home address.
The aftercare has been great, they contacted me to ask how things have been and if I’m happy with everything.

The repair work carried out by the approved repairer for Admiral , Steer, Woodford has been poor. The headlamp replacement was misaligned, and when I raised it upon collection as I noticed it straight away the technician responded, “you have better eyes than I do,” which is not reassuring. So was there another 45m whilst he fixed it . To make matters worse, the “new” headlamp already shows condensation and needs replacing. My front sensors are no longer working correctly and the alloy wheel refurbishment is of a poor standard. The courtesy car was given to me with a dirty wind screen, no screen wash , service light on and then the oil light came on upon driving for only the second journey so had to go back to top up the oil .

I booked this garage based on their Google reviews but it's lead me to believe they must delete the bad ones!
My car had cosmetic damage only (i think?
Because they never actually told me what they repaired) and has been back and forth 5 times since Christmas, 3 times for an issue they caused unrelated to the damage and twice because of poor workmanship on the paintwork.
The office is hard to get hold of and communication between internal staff is appalling. After submitting a formal complaint they still seemed to make things difficult at every opportunity. Even on the final delivery they left me to deal with returning the hire car.
After 14 weeks of constant back and forth, stress and inconvenience, they also refused to refund my insurance excess, but did give me a "free" tank of fuel. Overall service is abysmal, and l've paid £350 and doubled my car insurance premium for the pleasure.

Very happy with the repairs so far, to our Toyota Rav 4.
We had a courtesy car, which was great. The only thing with it was the tyre pressures were way out - way over on 3 tyres and very low on the 4th. The warning light came on before we got home in the car. Something that should be checked beforehand. Also service warning kept coming on, with a comment to change the oil.

The staff at Steer, especially Cari, went out of their way to help me deal with my ineffectual insurance carrier. They were professional, friendly, always willing to help, and I can't thank them enough! 5 stars. My car was completed in a timely manner and also looks great. I'd definitely recommend them for any car repair. Thanks again!

Steer was the nominated repairer for my car after some clown run into me. I’m very pleased they were.
From start to completion they were very professional, good communication & very prompt collection of my car. The car was returned to me within 10 days. The repairs look excellent & they even washed the car prior to delivering back to us. Many thanks.
