I’ve bought a Stihl MS 211 chainsaw from Lister Wilder in Ashford in July 2023 (7 months ago) to do some tidy up around my estate. I went for Stihl because I wanted the quality and reliability they promise with their brand.
My saw recently stopped working so I had to take it back to Lister Wilder Ashford for repair. My saw is fully covered under warranty (inc. all parts and repair) as Stihl’s customer service team has assured me. I have 3 years warranty on it.
And yet, Lister Wilder Ashford wants to charge me £222 for the repairs and even though I reported the issue to Stihl, they’re not doing anything about it! (case ref.: 010224T9978443)
Apparently they started to “investigate” the issue but they provide no updates to me, their end customer! And I have no way contacting Stihl’s technical department either, so I’m stuck between Lister Wilder and Stihl’s customer service. It’s been 3 weeks now since I dropped my saw off and still nothing’s happened! Extremely frustrating and a SURPRISINGLY POOR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE FROM STIHL! I couldn’t be more disappointed!
(On the other hand it’s exactly what I expected from Lister Wilder Ashfor as they did try to rip me off before with quoting fake prices!)
And on top of this I have to do all the chasing!
My saw retails for circa £320 on todays market, so Dear Stihl, to just sit back and let your dealer (Lister Wilder Ashford) to try to rip me off for £222 for a repair that should be covered by my warranty is absolutely DISGUSTING!!
Instead of just repairing my saw under warranty (which would take nothing for Stihl) and providing me (the customer) with a hassle-free good customer experience, Stihl does the opposite and make me never want to shop from them again!
So, to all you prospect customers out there, DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE…THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND LET YOU DOWN!

I purchased a Stihl RE130 plus power washer. It looks and good but unfortunately it has a design flaw with the lance which keeps failing at handle. They know its a major issue and have not changed the flaw. I have gone through 3 lances in 2 years and I only use a few times every other month. I will not buying Stihl again.

I have purchased the FS70C-E Brush Cutter, the HS46C-E Hedge trimmer and KM56RC-E Multi tool with Power Brush for clearing paths in the village.
Blown away by the easy start and how powerful these bits of kit are.

Bought a RMI422.2 STIHL IMOW from local dealer, in April 2023, the PCB board failed in September 2023, local dealer collected it straight away to repair it. Two and a half months later Stihl GB have not supplied them with the part to repair it, spoken to Stihl directly on 2 occasions, promised to resolve the issue and keep me informed, neither have happened. Would suggest people consider the above before making a purchase.

This drama has gone on since the start of Covid shutdowns and has still not been sorted out.
I have bought into the professional range of cordless garden tools and been generally happy with them but I certainly won't buy Stihl products in future. I had bought and had installed a robot mower and for some reason I found it in my pond. I've no idea why, but wonder if my dog knocked it over the boundary wire. I took it back to my dealer and asked them to repair it.
This occurred at the start of Covid lockdown and so I forgave them for the very slow progress despite many calls into the dealer. Despite replacing boards and working on it for months, it failed to work again and was told that having consulted the manufacturer, I would be able to have a new one at cost price.
About 18 months later(!) they finally came to install the new one. I had changed the lawn layout slightly since the original installation and so needed it rewiring which I had advised them about during my visits in lockdown. They told me they didn't have time to do it and left taking the mower with them.
I contacted Stihl directly as this was clearly ridiculous. Stihl told me I need the serial number of the old machine (which I don't have because the dealer kept it) for them to be able to help as the dealer is denying all knowledge of it.
So I had a £1,000 plus machine for less than 1 season out of the 5 summers I had it. The second summer I had to use a manual machine while I had some ground work done in the garden which meant the robot mower could not be used. It would have been cheaper to employ a gardener who could have done a lot of other jobs as well.
You buy premium quality tools and equipment based on reputation, but my experience means the reputation I thought they had was misplaced.
You can see the reply I got. The"additional information" they asked for is the serial number I quite clearly stated I don't have in my review. Are these replies carried out by bots or people who can't read?

I am writing this review only because I was suprised at the negative reviews Stihl have recieved. I am a gardener and have also worked with tree surgeons and have found Stihl tools excellent.

I always thought Stihl meant high class reliable products, but my (lightly-used) FS38 strimmer lasted only two years. The carburettor, primer bulb and starter cord all broke. But most of all the engine basically died and is, they tell me, "beyond economic repair" apparently because I left fuel in it over the winter. Stihl don't explicitly alert you to this risk in their instructions, in my opinion, and occasional gardeners / users like me learn the hard way that (unlike my Honda lawnmower) this is potentially catastrophic.

After many years of being such a huge fan of Stihl I am left in shock and disbelief of how such an iconic brand could fall to such depths. Having had chainsaws, strimmers, mowers (Viking) and a blower for many years I didn’t need much convincing when choosing a Stihl ride on mower. What a delight being able to cut the lawn in under 1/2 hour. Well it was until the engine failed. Four years old, less than 60 hours use, fully serviced annually by Stihl ( until local branch closed ) and then local garden machinery specialist. A ride on mower circa £3000 scrap. Engine uneconomical to repair.
In my 56 years I never imagined spending such an amount on a product that is worthless after just 60 hours use.
I accept it’s out of warranty, 2 years on Briggs and Stratton engine ( don’t be fooled by 5 year warranty claim ) but the reaction from Stihl customer care………
Their email was anonymous and the lady I spoke to subsequently really couldn’t understand my disappointment in the product.
One can only take from that four years, less than 60 hours use is now the norm.
All that’s left to do now is take it to the tip “looking” just as shiny as the day it arrived.

I bought a stihl rm248t lawn mower from garden machinery direct on 27 April 2023,the mower is ok but the grass box is absolutely the worst ever. Surely stihl can produce something better than this
Disastrous, bought 4no robotic mowers for our elderly parents to save the hassle each weekend using the tractor mowers and sold both tractor mowers to fund the Stihl robotic mowers at £7980.
Got the robotic mowers supplied & installed be a stihl dealer in June 2020, then my mother in laws RMI 632c started having battery problems in May 2021 and the dealer took the mower in for repair and never arrived back until Aug 21 which meant we had to cut the grass with a small petrol mower which took 2hrs to cut, this carried on through the grass cutting season until Aug 21, then in March 22 after being serviced the mower then started failing with fault codes (MO700) and then went back in Aug 22 for repair which meant cutting grass by hand again, late Aug 22 came back from repair and the had to back in Sept 22 with further problems, to date the mower is still in for repair with no updates from the stihl authorised dealer until we complained in March 23. in February 23 we had to buy another tractor mower £2000 due to the ongoing problems with stihl and keeping the grass maintained.
In Feb23 we called the local stihl dealer for an update, who promised to get back and never, so chased again and complained to which they delivered a spare mower and confirmed they were waiting on an update from the local stihl representative as we have asked for our money back, these mowers have caused severe unnecessary stress to both our parents and us, the timeline above proves the stress!
Please note my Mothers mower RMI632c has had problems with certain sections of grass not being cut and continually gets stuck, the RMI432c has had problems with battery and also continually gets stuck which means back to cutting grass with a hand mower, more stress, we now wish we hadn’t opted to sell the tractor mower for the robotic mowers.
Hopefully stihl Uk can support in the above as we are getting no success with the local stihl approved dealer!!

Purchased the £795 MS261 Chainsaw, top of the range that’s supposedly made for professional use. I bought this 3 months ago for domestic use and only used it occasionally. It has since stopped working.
I bought Stihl as I think it makes quality products and it is the total opposite! A machine made for professional use, broke while used for domestic purpose! What’s worse is, it is still under warranty and Stihl would not repair or exchange for a new one. They actually asked me to purchase a new one! This is a joke!!
The customer service is appalling, and I would urge anyone thinking of purchasing a Stihl to stay away. Bad quality products, Bad customer service! No longer the Stihl it used to be.

I bought this petrol strimmer on the recommendation of shop representative. It was the bottom of their range so didn't have Easy start or a harness.
But it starts OK. More importantly its reliable as I've used it non stop for a week and nothing has broken or fallen. Its easy to handle and light enough without having to use harness for a couple of hours at a time. I've put a new strimmer cord in which was difficult, but aren't they all, but better then some.
Very pleased with it tbh and can rest easy with the 2 year guarantee.

After postcode problem was resolved the hedge trimmer turned up the next working day. However the battery and charge have not turned up neither Stihls or TNT know when I will get it. I paid a lot of money for this and did not expect to be let down by the main uk supplier. Maybe I should have read there reviews first as they are pretty poor.
Purchased self propelled petrol lawn mower £715.00
Instruction Manual covers 4 different Briggs and Stratton engines. In order to properly maintain and obtain the correct spares, it is necessary to be aware which one of the four categories Stihl installed on my unit.
Provided customer support with all the relevant information such as engine No. etc four times now, and on every occasion they only directed me to the Instruction Manual covering the 4 different models. Why?
They now no longer show me the courtesy of a reply to my emails even though I advised I would be returning the unit as unfit for purpose.
A pathetic and atrocious service by Stihl and certainly a company I will and others should avoided.

I recently purchased the RE130 pressure washer which is a great piece of kit, and does everything that it says. Unfortunately after 4 months there was a problem with it losing pressure and so the local dealer had it back for repair.
This is where we step in with a five star review as there was no quibble or question, other than in conjunction with Stihl UK it would be replaced with a one new immediately. It is rare these days to be able to speak to the manufacturer direct, and in this instance an email to Stihl UK was replied to the same day…..and they followed up to check that everything has been sorted.
It is this sort of customer service that makes you stay with the brand as it’s all very well selling an item, but if it goes wrong it’s how it’s dealt with that counts.
In this case they did superbly and kept the supplying dealer in the loop also. Would definitely continue to buy Stihl products which are well made and backed by excellent warranties.

Used a Stihl combination spanner socket tool with torx head. This tool came as part of the kit of a FS 130 brush cutter, which I purchased about four hears ago. I have used this tool two times, the third time the torx head snapped in the bolt I was trying to loosen. Upon examination it was clear to see it had been cast badly as it was brittle. Tried to speak to Stihl customer service but the woman was speaking using a script and was no use at all. Be very careful when purchasing Stihl products because the quality doesn't appear to be very good.
