Resting on its Laurels. Pristine and well presented services
I haven’t much choice about using this place as I need to charge the car. It always looks pristine and well presented, but there seems to be either a shortage of staff, or the staff are poorly managed/deployed. You collect your food at a reasonable temperature and find yourself in a very slow-moving queue to pay for it. Slow moving because the cashier also has to operate the coffee machine. I ate my meal as I moved along the counter, by the time I paid the remainder of it was stone cold. Totally unsatisfactory, and this has been the case for over a year!
How Tebay Service Station Ruined My Coffee and My Day
I have been a loyal customer of Tebay Service Station for years, and I always enjoyed their food and coffee. However, I had a very disappointing experience on January 4th 2024. I was shocked by how expensive the food was, so I decided to just order a large latte at the food counter. As I was walking back to my car, I took a sip and realized that the latte tasted awful. It had a sour milk flavor that made me gag. I returned to the express counter and complained to the lady there. She apologized and said that they had some problems with their milk supplier. She offered to replace my coffee with another one. I accepted the offer and hoped that the new coffee would be better. I resumed my journey, but after a few miles, I noticed that the coffee still had a hint of sourness. I couldn’t stand it anymore and threw it away. I stopped at a McDonald’s and got a much better and cheaper coffee. I was very unhappy with Tebay Service Station. Their quality and value have gone downhill. I will not stop there again. Avoid this place if you don’t want to waste your money and ruin your taste buds.
Bad stop
Stop for breakfast and it was disgusting the bacon was very dry and hard the mushrooms were disgusting beans looked as they were made last nite sorry to write this as I stop here all the time
Loved it here
Loved it here. Helpful friendly staff.
Higher priced items to buy, but no different to any other home made farm shop experience! So expected this.
Enjoyed incredible beef and ale pies for tea this evening
Very dog friendly and how wonderful to actually be able to sit inside at a table and drink coffee with your dog.
Take note other service stations as your antiquated not letting doggos in
Great experience- cannot see why all the negativity in the comments below
Caravan spaces taken by lazy car drivers
Lovely produce though a bit expensive but whenever we stop there with the caravan the large spaces which are specifically for caravans and cars with trailers, are always taken by lazy car drivers parking in the long spaces. We found it extremely stressful having to park at the side of the car park with lorry drivers looking frustratingly at us!!
called on sunday 15th of october got 2…
called on sunday 15th of october got 2 pies costing £10-50 absloute disgusting pies tasteless and disintegrated after 1st bite won’t be calling there again over rated and over priced
Worst food ever
Two fish & chips and two coffees,£38 ,cold and inedable greasy food total waste of money very disappointed, won't be back
Very disappointed
Very disappointed, bought a carrot cake and it was mouldy, exp date 12 09 23
Sadly, very dissapointed
Great documentary on TV recently. It,s just a shame it did not reflect the truth about the place. Whilst the shops are okay, tad expensive for whats on offer but the cafe could only be described as a very very bad transport cafe where people would only visit if they were desperate. Excited to go there following documentary, even more excited to get back on the M6. Disgusting food and tea bags that were scared of hot water. NEVER EVER AGAIN.
DISGUSTED
DISGUSTED
I popped in there with a friend for breakfast today and was charged over £25 for two breakfasts, There was NO sausages cooked and there was a very long line of people the staff said that the sausages would be about six minutes to cook so in my opinion bad service, As we were on our way to collect a truck we were in a hurry so we were offered a change to the menu LOL what a disgusting meal, the extra bacon instead of the sausage meant we had two slices of well over cooked bacon which could have resoled a pair of shoes with and the rest of the so called breakfast was served cold. Needless to say we will never use that services again and as a businessman within the Film and television industry I will ensure they get bad advertising.
Food is disgusting
Worth it just for the drive
I love this service station, set in the breathtaking Westmorland Countryside. The food is delicious, eat in or take away, even better now it's north and south bound. All the staff are so friendly and genuinely pleased to see you. It's all traditional home fayre none of your mass produced stuff or your bog standard staff canteen set up. It's almost like being at home.
Buyer beware
After watching the programme about Tebay we were excited to try some of the local farm produce.
We bought fillet steak, sirloin and lamb shoulder. What a let down!
We were hoping the standard would well above supermarket levels but not the case and the prices were extreme.
Very very disappointed!
Stop off elsewhere
Used to enjoy stopping off here but last couple of stops have been a huge let down. Over priced food, weak coffee and severely unprofessional and unmotivated staff.
Staff member at fish / hot point (northern side) basically threw newly prepared food into hot counter area. Chips were cold/hard.
One of the coffee machines was faulty and three members of staff laughed and joked at it while attempting to ‘fix’ it while a long queue developed to pay for food.
Wont be back
No brands
After a long drive I was looking forward to a can of coke and a mars only to discover there was none stocked.
Glad the garage across the way had some
Third time there, style over substance.
Third time in a row I’ve been very disappointed. Nothing like they portray on the tv series. Sunday, no roast dinner! The chef had to ask if they were doing one! This was at 12.30 on the Sunday. We bought the most tasteless pork pie and sausage roll from the deli. I have seriously enjoyed ones from walls I bought at a garage more than the ones from Tebay. Seriously overpriced and a case of style over substance. The young staff are pleasant and it’s not their fault the management obviously keep congratulating themselves how well they are doing. Take my advice, pass it by and stop at the next services.
Great shopping, although predictively pricey.
We called in to Tebay Services on a trip back from the Highlands.
Beautiful setting, one of the best views I've seen from a motorway services! There is a wonderful array of produce for sale here. Nothing is cheap, some things are eye waveringly expensive. But you will get things from here that you may struggle to find elsewhere. The pies are amazing. We filled a shopping bag with gifts and left over £100 lighter. But worth it for the unusual stuff such as the pickled sprouts, lovingly termed on the label as 'guff grenades'.
Well north a visit.
Stopped at tebay services
Stopped at tebay services, north bound, for a cuppa on 28 April 2022.
Had 3 normal pots of tea and 1 pot of earl grey.
The teas were without any flavour, just hot (barely) tainted water, even the early grey.
Didnt bother to complain because in the past when I was faced with a similar pot of 'tea' I asked for another tea bag for the pot and they had the cheek to ask me to pay for another pot of tea!!!!
Come on tebay, get your act together, dreadful quality at a premium price!!!
Wont be stopping there again.
Absolutely dreadful.
