The company seems to be a scam

The company seems to be a scam. They claim to produce bikes in small batches, and that they are 'made in the UK, in Bristol' it's a misleading statement, as the frames and forks are made in Taiwan. So they charge way over the odds for these bikes, leading people to believe they are actually made in the UK, when they are actually only put together here with components that are made in China and Taiwan - as are most other bikes.
Also, the setup of the 1x9 on the lightweight classic is set up to fail- the chain line is too severe leading to the bike slipping out of gear. It should be built with 2x crank and front derailleur. Are they just doing this to save £? They must know this setup doesn't work.

Asked them what company in Taiwan produces the frames, the reply was: "I am sorry, but unfortunately we are unable to divulge that information for confidentiality reasons."

Talk about transparency. What are they hiding? This reply from temple doesn't fill me with confidence.

I would urge you to consider the language used on your website which could lead people to believe the frame and fork are manufactured in the UK, when in fact your bikes are only assembled in the UK. It does seem you've revised your introduction slightly on the site since.
Other businesses do indeed disclose where their frames are manufactured. I think this information is important to customers. The brand 'Surly' for example use 'Maxway' in Taiwan to produce their frames. To me, I don't fully understand what you would lose from being fully transparent.
As for the extreme angle of the chain line when In gear 1, on the 9x1 setup- if you look through your reviews you will find other complaints about gears slipping.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

First, we would like to ask that you reconsider your use of the word "scam", as we believe this couldn’t be further from the truth. We have thousands of happy customers, consistently positive reviews across platforms such as Google and Trustpilot, and a fully operating workshop in Bristol that anyone is welcome to visit. Here, our team of mechanics hand-assemble bikes to order, and customers can see the process for themselves. In addition, our website contains detailed information (more than most bike brands are willing to share) about where and how our bikes are made. You can read this for yourself here: https://templecycles.com/pages/how-we-make-bikes. We’re not sure which part of this could reasonably be considered a scam.

On your point about the chain line on the Classic Lightweight : we respectfully dispute your claim. We’ve been producing this model for over 10 years, have sold thousands of them, and this has not been raised as an issue by our customers or our own staff. If you believe there is a specific problem with your bike, please do reach out to us directly so we can help resolve it. We are always happy to customise components if a customer has a preferred setup. However, we are actually unable to find any order corresponding with your details on our system. We'd appreciate it if you could provide your order number so we can verify your review is based on a genuine experience of the bike.

Regarding frame fabrication: we are transparent about our international approach to parts and processes across our website. We design, test, and assemble our bikes here in Bristol, while partnering with specialist suppliers around the world for specific components. This is standard practice in the cycling industry, as it is not possible to source or fabricate every part in the UK. We don’t disclose the name of our frame factory publicly because those close relationships are a competitive advantage - something most brands also keep private.

In summary, we are proud of the balance we’ve struck between British craftsmanship and international expertise, and we are fully transparent about that process. If you have a genuine issue with a Temple bike you have bought, we’d be more than happy to work with you directly to resolve it.

Good products and turnaround but pick up the phone.

I bought a nice bike partially assembled with parts I had to assemble. Bike was nice, well made. A bit pricey but ok. I had to call the workshop (the only tel no. given) to change the delivery address which had defaulted from somewhere and was wrong. I called about 5 times over a week and no-one ever picked up the phone. I tried the contact us and eventually got an email.

Thrill of arrival

The bicycle was ordered on-line on the recommendation of a friend for my son's 14th birthday. The traditionalism and good looks appealed.
It was easy to specify on-line and he was thrilled when it arrived quickly with very little to do to get on the road. Off we went, me with my Claud Butler, 1983 vintage, Reynolds 531. Him with Reynolds 520. Must investigate what changed? We never spoke to anyone at Temple, but we are grateful!

Good people making good products

Immy and Marcel @ the London store have honestly made me feel so welcome each and every time I popped into the store since falling in love with the AD1.

Immy has such a warm and fun energy, she put together a great bundle with all the kit for my cyclescheme. Still awaiting some little things but the bike & 90% of the kit are now with me.

Marcel built the bike, which is absolutely class. Tended to me in a moment of despair when got a puncture on my first ride out! (I’d not ridden tubeless before) & just gave me some solid guidance to dealing with this on the go.

Nothing but good things to say really. Love the ethos of the brand, frames built in Bristol, super nice finishing kit & wish I could be on it 24/7.

Exceptional customer service

There were a few bumps in getting me the perfect bike. You can really rate a company by how they deal with problems that arise, and these guys were amazing and went above on beyond.

This is a small step through but with smaller handlebars and comfort pads.
I’ve been struggling to get back to cycling due to a back injury and il really back riding a bike in comfort.

Great customer service

The team at Temple were very helpful in dealing with my quite specific requirements to find the right bike to replace my old rigid mountain bike, with the end result being a very nice high spec Adventure Disc 1 gravel bike done as a flat bar conversion, which is close to what I was looking for as I could get in this day and age. Just about to put it through its paces on a tour around the Netherlands, and I’m certain its blend of retro style paired with the best modern components will turn more than a few heads.

Well done guys, great job, really cool bike.

Proactive and Quality Products

I meant to leave this review a while ago but completely forgot, better late than never!
Temple Cycles were spot on from start to finish. Even when I picked the wrong delivery method (rookie error), they didn’t just leave it, they actually picked up the phone and called me as soon as they noticed something wasn’t right. Who even does that these days? That kind of proactive service is rare and deserves a proper shout-out.
The pedals I ordered are absolutely fantastic, solid, well-made, and make my rides feel smoother than ever. You can tell there’s genuine care behind what they do. Everything from packaging to communication was top-notch.
Big thanks to the Temple team, next time I’ll try not to mess up the delivery bit, but good to know you’ve got my back if I do!
