Asked for a refund multiple times only to be ignored until finally they had the cheek to email me recently (a year later) explaining that I could no longer get a refund because it's been too long. A totally unreliable company that I will never use again. Will have to go down the legal route to get money back now. Save your time/money and shop somewhere, anywhere else.

March order not received or refunded...
Like many others, I ordered back in March. My '5 day delivery' turned into a 7 week one which I then kept getting told would be delayed a little longer, but would be fulfilled. Eventually, one book out of nearly twenty arrived and there has been no contact since. Phone calls unanswered and emails ignored for months. I can't even find information on how to contact administrators. Such a shame it ended this way as I had always had good service before.

Order never received
I placed an order in March and was told it would take several weeks.. i contacting the Book people in May, then in June and was again told to wait a couple more weeks. I finally received-what I thought was good news’ that my order was shipped, with a tracking ref through Yodel. I clicked on the tracking link only to find out the goods weren’t with the courier yet and that I should check back later.. I called and called and never received this order! Absolutely frustrating as I can’t even get a refund or talk to anyone from the company!
High quality books at low prices
I ordered loads of books with this company. They offered deep discounts. So, even though I had to pay high shipping charges, I still saved a lot with The Book People. I sorely miss the company.

Put a order in on 27th March still not received the order. They've said theu dispatched with my hermes but keeping getting the same message from my hermes saying they are waiting to recieve the order. Now the book people have closed there phone lines so can't contact them.
Not ideal but could be worse!
Ordered about 20 items on 26th March. Of these, three items arrived three months later on 19th June. The remaining 17 items were nowhere to be seen, I contacted The Book People in early July and in all fairness I got a speedy response saying they had been lost by Hermes, a full refund was then paid into my account about a week later. Not ideal but it could had been much worse!

The Book People - Great company who will be missed.
As a Book People customer for many years, I wanted to post a review that reflects the general standard of The Book People pre administration. Excellent choice, value and customer service. I have purchased over one hundred books, each arriving promptly and pristine. Any problem was always handled smoothly and efficiently.
My last 2 orders (post administration) placed in March did take almost 12 weeks to dispatch (despite the 7 advertised). But one has to have sympathise with any business that is in wind down after failing to survive, leaving it with minimum staff (who will be losing their jobs) to fulfil honouring last orders.
Unfortunately my last order although dispatched, did not arrive. There has been a problem with mass final packed and shipped book orders on pallets not being scanned by Hermes and going missing. I’m afraid having had my own poor experience with Hermes, this does not truly surprise me at all.
Their administrators have been trying to chase up Hermes. I do trust the customer services reps who confirmed that this has happened, especially since I received an email on dispatch which even processed a refund for a book out of stock at picking phase.
Unfortunately looks like their offices are now closed for good if you ring customer services. Transpires as I had rang up about missing parcel some weeks back, I have been automatically refunded.
For any of the reviewers below or other customers who did not receive their order and refund, please try searching PWC The Book People in google search. The Book People Limited - in administration should come up. This link will allow you to send contact form to their administrators “For matters that require urgent attention from PwC please click here”. I had done this before noticing I had been refunded automatically.
If you select ‘The Books People Administration’ as company and give them a description of your problem and order ID, hopefully they should get back to you in order to help facilitate remediation, as I did actually get a prompt response.
I hope this helps other customers and genuinely sorry to see a company such as The Book People disappear.
15 weeks waiting for now parcel and no refund
15 weeks I have been waiting for my order and I understand it's now a heroes issue but I have received no correspondence no parcel and no refunds. Now they have closed their offices and are still nicely in possession of my money. This is a joke and there is no way to complain or contact anyone. Terrible service called 6 times leading up to closure with no help!

Like others ordered in March and on 17th June, got an email saying they were to be delivered by Hermes. Checked the Hermes tracking and it said that they were awaiting the parcel.
Spoke to the Book people staff, a few times, and they claimed that Hermes had failed to log them into their system, and they were somewhere in a depot in Warrington. They were helpful, and still hoped they'd be delivered, but it was out of their control, and Hermes weren't giving idea of what was happening. Last week they advised me to ask for a refund, which I did, and have received.
They also said they didn't know how long they would be working, thought last week would possibly be their last.
So if you can't get through, you might try writing to the administrators, though not sure of their address.
Sad for both customers, and employees.

Very bad experience recently. Bought roughly 50 pounds book and CDs at the end of March. After 7 weeks which their estimate processing time passed, still not receive any parcel or updated messages. 17th June got an email saying part of the books had been dispatched and others will be refund. Until now neither parcel nor refund has been received. And no one there answering the call.......

I ordered 20 items back in March, received 1about 8 weeks later and then a message saying the order had been processed and was on its way to Hermes. But, when I enter the Tracking number, Hermes say they are still waiting for the package. I have tried emailing The Book People a number of times but have had no replies whatsoever. I have phoned numerous times and the phone has just rung and rung. Today I tried again (0345 6023030) - the automated message was that the office was now closed. It seems i am in the same boat as a lot of customers. i ordered in March when they took my money but then kept hold of it and then last week received an email saying that Hermes are delivering it. Hermes website says they are awaiting the parcel from the book people.
As much as don't trust Hermes i am not sure if it is their fault or the book people, they are normally really good. So disappointed i will not be receiving my things i have waited four months for and some were for my daughters school work next year. sad i will not be able to order again.
So am I just unlucky? Or are the professional administrators incompetent ?
placed an order on 25th March, money taken immediately; chased on 1st May, got a reply on 12th May apologising and promising to email when despatch took place (which never came); lodged complaint on 19th May, and finally today, 30th June ,I have an email apologising once again and promising to chase their courier for a parcel that they seemingly they have not yet sent. So Covid is indeed slowing things down, but it is now over 3 months since I placed my order and Book People clearly have not got a clue what has happened to my order. That in my book is INCOMPETENCE, and seemingly professional incompetence at that.

Bought items in the closing down sale in March. Only one item received. Had a despatch note 3 weeks ago for the remaining items, I was so pleased however these did not arrive so I phoned customer services twice last week. A number of the final parcels have gone missing and they have not been tracked down. I was given a full refund. I have given a 4 star as the poor customer service team were very helpful and polite. They are not to blame and will be losing their jobs soon. The warehouse is now closed, only 6 cusomer service staff remain. If you haven't had your parcel yet phone them on 0345 602 3030 and they will arrange a refund for you, or maybe you will be lucky and they've found your parcel, who knows. Have your customer number and order number to hand.
