I ordered books on the 3rd March
I ordered books on the 3rd March, for about €90, for my classroom. They all arrived last week (in two separate boxes). I was also very worried about receiving my order and was told that it would take 4 weeks then 7 weeks to receive them. Hopefully everyone who is waiting will receive their orders soon.
Terrible
Iv always been a customer and chose to buy some books in the closing down sale back in March. Iv had no communication apart from the initial order email, they took my money quickly enough though. No reply on phone, no reply to emails. Disgusting!!
My 8 March order has arrived
My 8 March order has arrived. Would have liked to have had an update saying my order would still arrive, but these are strange times. Each time I called customer services they did say I would receive my order and were perfectly polite.
They took my money without saying they…
They took my money without saying they had gone into administration last year. I ordered at the beginning of March but have not received anything or been able to get a response from any of the customer service routes. I spent over £45 on nothing! Administrators should not be able to take money for things they cannot deliver. This isn't about the lovely staff its about directors continuing to sell stuff they cant even deliver...
I am so annoyed and I want my money back...
Ordered a fair few books beginning of…
Ordered a fair few books beginning of March one of which was delivered the very same week. This was not the case with the rest of my order. After several emails I finally got a reply to say they had my books in stock and they will be despatched as soon as possible. It is now the end of May and they have just turned up with Hermes. Don't lose faith they will arrive eventually. I couldn't give them one star rating as they did finally get my books to me at a massive discount. Thank you
Do not order off them
Do not order off them. They used to be a good company but now they are just taking your money and not sending out any of the books. I sent an order through on 20th March and have still not received books, yet they have had my money and tell me they can't cancel my order because it is too far down the line at the warehouse- this is just lies in my opinion now. Tried to contact them several times but no response to emails or phones.
Stay away from this company
Disappointed and still waiting for my order
Made an order on 20th March, understood that it could take 4 weeks. 4 weeks later, nothing, but saw on the website that orders could take up to 7 weeks. At 7+ weeks, I emailed, but no response so after a few more days, phoned. After waiting 40 minutes, I spoke to a very helpful (?) lady who said she would chase the warehouse about my order and she also said that answering emails was taking at least 4 weeks.
After 8+ weeks, I phoned again and spoke to a different customer service agent who said all outstanding orders were expected to be sent out by the end of May. I'm still waiting to receive my order.
So disappointed with the level of customer service from TBP, who were a fantastic company which I've used for many years.
At last!
Made 2 orders on 9th and 20th March, like everyone else was told 4 weeks. I did try calling several times but no response. Emailed a couple of times, eventually got a response 6 weeks later?! I have, today, received my final order! Both orders came split delivery. My first order took just over 8 weeks and my 2nd 10 weeks. Some fantastic items inside and an unbelievable price! Just one item out of stock, note to say I will get a refund, don’t know if I will or not but it was only £2.
I have used TBP for many years and always received great stuff and a fantastic service. I am really sorry to see them go. I just wish they had communicated with us all a bit more to save a lot of stress and worry!
Hopefully this message will ease the minds of those still waiting.
12 weeks and [still] waiting
Placed an order on the 6th March when delivery was up to 4 weeks. Still not received the items almost 12 weeks later. No emails to say been dispatched. No response to the three emails I’ve sent them.
With everything that’s going on, I appreciate that there’s a delay but 12 weeks and no communication when they’ve taken £60 from me is a bit rough.
Rip off whilst under administration
Ordered 19 March, not being aware they were in administration. Disgusting that this was not highlighted on their site & during the order process. Over 2 months & 3 emails later, still no books or communications. Typical administrators, still ripping people off when the doors should be shut. At least we only lose £25. But not everyone can afford that.

I ordered my books on 7th March and I had two parcels delivered today and received everything I ordered. I hope everybody gets their orders.
So sad that the company has ceased trading and I feel for the staff.
Ordered my books on 7th March and three…
Ordered my books on 7th March and three arrived today. They were so heavily discounted I will not be too bothered even if the 4th book doesn't show. This was such a good company in its time. Sorry to see it go. Even sorrier for the staff plodding on until the bitter end only to be hit by an even worse prospects after the lockdown. Good luck to them they have served me well I their time.
My wife placed an order for books in…
My wife placed an order for books in March and the money/payment was deducted from her account nine weeks ago. No books have arrived. She tried to call them on a number of occasions without success.
It is mid-June now, and I can confirm that the order has been received. Thank you. It does appear that all is well, but accept an unusually long delay. My advice to the company would be to drop the buyer a line, to keep them updated, and avoid complaints. (Communication!) Despite the aggro, we will miss them.
Books arrived...
Ordered books beginning of March and they turned up on 22nd May. For all those still waiting, they seem to be fulfilling orders. Obviously the delay is due to lack of staff (they let some go at beg of year), the sheer scale of orders received from customers cashing in on the discounts and I am sure working to pack orders during Covid 19 didn’t help.
I wish all the staff who are losing their jobs the best for the future. I will miss Book People which I have been using for many years.
So glad paid with PayPal as terrible service!
Have ordered from them for last few years with no problems but placed order early March and didn’t hear anything and no reply to emails luckily paid by PayPal so opened a case with them and they got me a Refund! 👍 Book people then emailed me after nothing for 3 months saying my order is now cancelled as they were made to pay me a refund!
6th March.. order not arrived yet.
I have placed an order on the 6th march. Never had any further emails to say been dispatched. I understand they are busy so I waited until last week and emailed, no reply so I emailed again and still no reply, I had a birthday present ordered which is now too late, I just hope to still receive soon after reading other reviews.
Ordered in march when the delivery time…
Ordered in march when the delivery time was four week still no items over eight weeks nothing email everyday for the last week Nothing
Disappointed after so many years of no problems.…
I understand that The Book People have had difficulties. But having ordered on March 23rd and told delivery was 4 weeks and then told on the phone after 7 weeks that it was soon to be dispatched and everything was available, I was disappointed to not receive my order until 9 weeks after ordering. I received an email to say it was being sent in 2 parcels. 1 arrived with a note to say 5 items were not available whereas the email said they were being sent separately. I have been charged for a full order.
Received an email this morning
Received an email this morning, most of my order has been despatched, the rest to be despatched soon. I ordered on the 23rd March. Well done The Book People and good luck to all your hardworking staff for the future.
Understandably delivery took a while
Understandably delivery took a while. People don't realize they already laid off staff in 2019 and were then taking loads of orders right up until lockdown. With coronavirus, it will be difficult to prepare and dispatch orders. My order from march 4th arrived on 19th may with everything I ordered and all in great condition (nothing was damaged etc).
