I have had a horrible experience with this company.
- Horrific Communication
- No Apology
- No appropriate Refund
Early December:
Ordered a sofa and asked about delivery to the Highlands as we were moving there - were reassured by front of house staff that if there is any issue with us moving in that we can discuss storage/other delivery options once it is ready
Feeling reassured, placed the order and paid the hefty delivery charge
In the mean time we hit major difficulties with moving and our move gets delayed and we end up in a stressful situation jumping between temporary accommodation
3 February:
I get a call from Designer Rooms saying the sofa is ready and they will arrange delivery
I asked about storage options and clearly instructed to NOT deliver
Get told they can hold for a couple of weeks then there will be a charge
12 February:
Same guy calls and has forgotten our conversation -
I remind him and explain we are still in a difficult personal situation, can they hold it longer?
He stated no they can't hold it
I make is VERY clear NOT to deliver to the highlands and asked if we could arrange a new delivery address in the central belt and to be refunded the extra I paid for delivery up North
He told me he would have to look into it and get back to me
20 February:
Designer Rooms hands the sofa to the courier to send to Inverness with no communication with myself (dates confirmed by Executive Home Delivery)
24 February:
I am contacted by the courier that they are going to try and deliver today in the highlands
I explained that I had instructed Designer Rooms TWICE that this should not have happened
I then contacted Designer Rooms and got the same guy on the phone that turns out is their Retail Manager. I asked him if he remembered our 2 phone conversations which he confirmed he did, but when I asked him if he remembered that I instructed him not to deliver to the Highlands he went silent, then doubled down and jabbed at me -
“Well I didn’t know you didn’t already live there”
To which I told his is not relevant as he had reassured me that we could find another solution over the phone.
Since raising this with the Customer Service team there has been absolutely zero accountability taken and repeated attempts by the company to place blame on me.
I was also told over the phone:
“It got sent to Inverness so the delivery charge stands”
This should not be an excuse as I then contacted Executive Home Delivery who confirmed for me that Designer Rooms moved the sofa AFTER my phone calls to the Retail Manager
When I have asked for my delivery charge to be refunded, as I have been charged for their mistake, they have tried to make it seem like they did me a favour by not charging me the fee it took to bring the sofa back from the courier ...
I was offered a "Goodwill Gesture" that didn't even come to 50% of the fee I paid - not a refund!
Zero apologies have been offered
Communication has been consistently awful and as a result of the extra stress and lack of compassion I experienced with this company at a time of my life that has been extremely stressful in itself. I think the part that shocked me the most was how defensive they have been over the phone and email, at no point did anyone say "we are sorry this has happened, how can we make this better?" They have instead tried to make it my problem...
I would absolutely not recommend this company unless they have a serious customer service overhaul.
