Not happy with my experience. Derek was Rude and very disrespectful. Horrible photos he takes and treats people of colour differently.

Never been to a photo shoot before this was a 70th birthday present to myself with my husband.
The whole team were so kind helpful and made us feel very special.
They didn't rush us explaining step by step, we came home feeling very good about ourselves.
Derek's personally was fantastic and made our experience most enjoyable and we hopefully will return on another special occasion.
Loved the whole experience

I had a great experience at The Picture House...

I had a great experience at The Picture House. I initially purchased a voucher on Groupon for the shoot, and wasn’t expecting much. However, the experience was great.

The makeup artist, Alex, was top notch. The photographer, Derek was an awesome photographer who took some really shots and had some very unique and interesting ideas for the type of shoot I wanted.

Prices are typical of a normal photoshoot, about £50 odd per image. If you know and expect this going in, you won’t be surprised when you see the prices.

All in all would recommend.

Awful!!!

Visited here on 11th April after purchasing a voucher for a photoshoot. I was sold the voucher by a lovely charismatic young man (all part of the selling ploy no doubt). He made the deal sound amazing, promising free flowing cocktails and a MAC goody bag, along with the usual hair and make up. I thought this may be a nice treat for my daughter, nephew and myself. Skip forward to the actual day. Arrived at a rather shabby studio, I thought. Toilet not great, changing area not great either, and was in a basement so was rather hot and stuffy. We were greeted by the photographer, who it turned out was the owner. I only knew this later due to previous contact. My make up wasn't done as the lady said it was perfect. I didn't say otherwise as I didn't like to. My hair was mediocre. My daughters hair and make up was nice. The day wasn't explained to us as to how it would go, and it should have been. We were not at this point offered any form of refreshments. The photographer was nice and put us at ease. This isn't about him personally it is about how his media people are selling this product, and they are not delivering on their promises. We were eventually offered a glass of fizz, but where were the free flowing cocktails?. When the shoot was finished, I went to the toilet. On my return the place was empty. Everybody had gone apart from the man showing us the prints. Not very professional for everyone to disappear. When I was sold the voucher I was promised a print each, but it was just 1 digital print. The whole day was a waste of time. I do not like to be ripped off and conned, but feel I was. I was totally missold a product just to draw me in and part with my cash, and this just isn't right. I did take all this up with the owner who listened to what I had to say and claims he addressed this with his promotions guy who sold it to me. Of course he denied things, but well he had to didn't he. But this just makes me look like a liar. While the owner said he was sorry I wasn't satisfied there was no offer of any money back, any other prints, or to send me my goody bags. So I'm out of pocket for the shoot, for my train fares, left feeling thoroughly disappointed, whilst another company clap their hands at reeking another sucker in. Do not get drawn in!

Hi Gail,

thank you for the feedback, obviously i'm slightly surprised you have also now taken to attacking my actual studio too, yes the studio is lower ground floor but the studio has 8 large bay windows and double doors leading to outside and with air conditioning. but i accept your view. unfortunately there's nothing i can do about the studio location, i've held the lease here for several years and not once has a picture house client or my many commercial clients ever said a bad word (taking into account my commercial clients include Specsavers, Wella, Mothercare, ASOS to name just a few) - in fact often the opposite, it does seem slightly malicious/ridiculous

to the facts- our promotion clearly states complimentary drinks, nowhere on our website or promotional material given to clients does it say anything remotely regarding "free flowing cocktails". we are a photographic studio, not a bar. if as you said you were mislead by our promotions team, and the information they tell you does not match in any way with the product you purchased in black and white, then surely that has raised concerns, and yet you didn't question any of this.

we have promoted the studio in various shopping centres around the UK for many years and not once has anyone given any feedback in regard free flowing cocktails or MAC goodie bags, purely because we do not offer them. if we did then surely we would advertise as such? not to mention trading standards being all over me if i was plying all my clients with copious amounts of alcohol and then having them invest in what is an expensive product, its quite ludicrous. not to mention a mother who books a session with her young daughter and nephew seems to have booked the whole event with "free flowing cocktails" in mind- baring in mind your daughter being 17 if i recall?

no where on our promotional material does it state a MAC goodie bag either, and yet you did not question this with our promotions team upon purchasing the item? so even though the promotion you purchased does not say anything of the sort of what you were told you were buying, you did not question any of this and still purchased it willingly? of course i'm quite shocked by that, in this day and age for anyone to purchase something that you have in your physical hands that clearly states differently from what you are told and yet you still purchase it, that does raise several questions. but as i stated privately and also as you raised in your review, i did speak with the team. I'm afraid they share the same shock as myself, mainly, how could they sell a promotional voucher which clearly lists what's included and yet offer things that aren't written on the voucher? i will leave it up to the individuals that read your review to make up their own minds.

regarding your hair and make up, i personally asked on the day and your exact words were " i do not let other people touch my face and that i can do my make up better myself", and now to make the comments you have is just wrong and malicious.

also the voucher clearly states one digital image, not a print, digital. this is a conscious decision as we find all of our clients request the digital file due to the versatility of the digital product. if it is a print and you damage it its gone forever, the digital file is timeless and can be shared via email, social media etc and printed as often as you like, this was also explained to you on the day. to imply we're actually conning you out of something when in fact we are offering you something better, again is just malicious.

one final note, of course the creative team go home once their job has finished, i offered you all drinks etc before informing you my colleague will show you your images from the session. i asked you to take a seat whilst we wait to get the images uploaded, which takes around 5 minutes.

it was not easy for myself and my team on the day as well i'm afraid, you booked a make over and photoshoot and then said you didn't want a professional make up artist touch you and then complained about having to have your photo taken and made it quite uncomfortable for us to work with you. however i provide a service where i deal with all sorts of people and will try my hardest to appease everyone i meet in order to create nice pictures for all my clients. of course i'm not a magician, but i will do my best with what's in front of me. furthermore, making the accusation we are conning our clients is slanderous, it was a promotion for £59.99 which includes hair and make up for 2 people and a complimentary image worth £59 (which basically cancels out the £59.99 charge of the promotion). you did not wish to purchase any additional images which of course is your prerogative and your booking deposit was refunded within 48hrs.

i love what i do, i take pictures of individuals and families to cherish for generations, its extremely hurtful when someone tries to damage the hard work and effort i put into what i do, all for the benefit of my clients to leave with beautiful images of themselves and their loved ones.

with all this being said, i wish you the best

warm regards

Derek

Made you feel like a film star

From the moment we arrived we were treated like Hollywood actors, entering a world of fashion, fun and adventure. Welcomed with beverages and very happy staff. The make-up and hair was superbly done - just as I had requested it. They didn't overdo it. Just gave you enough to shine. The photographer explained the procedure well detailing the times between each outfit change and the types of positions. Both me and my partner have got a disability which the photographer took on board. He worked with us patiently and had the right amount of compassion and empathy, leaving us feeling well looked after, posing without feeling limited. We were thrilled with the end result. The pictures look so professional and will make a great addition to our home. We would highly recommend the Picture House London to others.
