terrible app experience

i adore the school of life as a service, but shame on them for creating such a poor experience in the app and effectively tricking people into continuing with a super expensive annual subscription.

customer support has been no help, and i’m really sorry that this casts a shadow over an otherwise excellent materials library.

you should design your UX in line with the principles you teach.

Not what I’d come to expect from this company, very disappointing.

I agreed to renew my subscription but due to an error in the app, was charged a higher price than I was expecting.

Rude and dismissive customer service are refusing to refund me, despite me not using the service. Not what I’d come to expect from this company after being a loyal customer for so many years, very disappointing.

Edit: Finally promised my refund after a needless cyclical email exchange and a week of waiting.

Do not sign up for their subscription service …

Don’t whatever you do sign up for their subscription service. I’ve bought so many books from this site and used the app extensively and thoroughly enjoyed it. However I find I’m not in a financial position to continue my membership. I have written so many emails requesting cancellation of my subscription. I was unable to do this on their app as the link to log in was not working which SOL acknowledged it was not working but ignored my request to cancel my membership. I now get emails telling me that my subscription is about to be renewed. This has been followed up by one of their generic emails telling me they only work between 8am - 5.30 and that my email will be responded to asap. The fact that every
Email I send to them is within this range of time. They are operating a very efficient scam system under the guise of being caring. Do not sign up !!!

Disappointed by Billing Transparency

The content on The School of Life app is great, thoughtful and high quality. But the customer service was disappointing. There’s no way to see your billing info in the app, so I didn’t realize my card was saved on their website (I got a voucher and the first year was free in my case). I tried to cancel via a link they sent, but it didn’t work on mobile (and they didn’t say it had to be done on a desktop). My subscription renewed, and even though I contacted them the same day, they just pointed me to the terms and conditions - no refund was possible. I like the concept, but this experience left a bad taste. Not for me.

Beautifully curated website and app

Beautifully curated website and app. Thought provoking insights into the human condition, inviting tolerance, respect and understanding of oneself and others. Alongside that, there’s inspiration and nuggets of wisdom from the worlds of art, science, architecture, music and more!
It feels very educational, offering a new perspective on moments from everyday life we can all identify with, investigating what lies beneath many of those. There is a very broad range of themes and topics to choose from, from the most deeply personal topics right through to the appreciation of many things about the world we live in.
Its beauty lies in looking more deeply at many of the complexities of life, presented in a simple and very understandable way. Much of the content reaches across many of the boundaries we are used to encountering as we move through our individual worlds, opening our minds up to new possibilities and perspectives. It’s wonderfully colourful and provides an authentic way to consider how we might navigate life, taking us out of our narrow perspectives and helping us make our own minds up on so many things, in a beautifully informed way.
It has also helped me stop scrolling mindlessly on social media, and instead learn to scroll somewhat more mindfully through content which actually makes a difference to me and my life. I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone looking for a little more from life or needing a space for personal growth. It’s wonderful!

The best app for self growth and to help coping with the anxiety of today’s world

The School of Life App is fantastic. It has a good variety of content and it is great to have such kind of content in an app, it helps me consume better content through my phone. I love the card sets, the articles about art and philosophy and the first aid kit. Visually, the app is also structured in a very pleasant way and it is easy to use. The only thing missing would be to have an offline mode :) essentially, this app has helped me find ways to improve relationships, to stay more calm and to feel grounded and not alone in a stressful world.
Completely recommend it!

Fantastic resources for a more fulfilling life

I’ve followed the School of Life for a while - starting with Alain de Botton’s books, through to the initial website, and now onto the app. I’ve bought their books and cards sets over the years, for myself and for friends. I love the clarity and simplicity of various tools the SOL offers: philosophy made usable for everyday life. Short stories, articles, flip pictures, audio and cards, short interviews - the variety of content presentation styles keeps it interesting, and suitable for whichever way people prefer to learn. I find I often turn to the SOL app homepage instead of checking news or social media sites - even one minute glancing through the homepage that changes every time you open it, is a lot better use of my time than mindless scrolling elsewhere. Every time I open the app, I get something helpful - positive and thought-provoking - and I’m better for it as a human, and as a friend, partner and colleague. Can’t recommend the School of Life highly enough.

The School of Life: A Personalised Digital 'Me-paper'

The School of Life is like reading a digital 'me-paper, a newspaper of sorts, except that it's curated especially for me. The homepage refreshes daily, sprouting new articles that are more than enough for a day's worth of mulling. And because I really do like to take my time mulling things over, what thing to do than incorporate it into my morning routine: wake up, wash my face and sit on my back deck with a freshly brewed coffee and The School of Life in hand.

The School of Life is an endless source…

The School of Life is an endless source of knowledge and inspiration on any topic important to being human. Everything is presented in an understandable, enjoyable, honoring and rational-emotional kind of way, giving new ideas, perspectives and even guidance. I can highly recommend the concept and all it's content.

Bitesize life advice - love it!

I adore having this subsciption - especially the app access. I used to have to go to YouTube to access School of Life videos, but the app has a plethora of content (videos, articles, card sets etc.) which is helpfully grouped together in topics. There are also personalised sections and daily quotes/articles. Having access to all this content on the app, and in the weekly emails, has really given me a wonderful space to reflect on my relationships and my career. This is what technology should be used for...

School of Life is an amazing resource…

School of Life is an amazing resource and paradigm shifting. It uses literature, philosophy, art and history to help teach us about the most important of life topics-ourselves and how we navigate the world. It gives us tools and allows us to grow to heal trauma, learn to communicate, develop self knowledge and self acceptance and then also how to develop and foster relationships. It’s different than any other self help or therapy approach. I’m grateful to have access to this resource. It’s also fun!

Best daily 5-10 minutes you can spend

School of Life never fails to provide stimulating and relatable food for thought. I have learned so much about people, relationships, art, well-being, and great ideas from this site. Give yourself a break from toxic social media and 24/7 news and spend time on School of Life instead.
