⚠️⚠️WARNING! ⚠️ ⚠️ DON'T GO IF YOU AREN'T A LOCAL. XENOPHOBIC VOCAL ATTACK FROM CASUALS, MANAGEMENT ACCEPTING HARASSMENT & THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOUR FROM THEM
Hi there,
I'd like to raise a complaint regarding today's experience. My friend came to visit and reunited us in your pub, it was a table of 6 people and 1 baby. We were having such a good time after a long time not seeing each other, however one of your casual customers thought it was ok vocally attacking me. The people were an old lady with a walking stick, and a younger couple, around 60 years old, who apparently had a bad time cos we were chatting. They pointed at me, the foreigner, saying things like my voice was horrible, I am the worst of all, and they hope not to see me in your pub again, as an example of some of the things they felt entitled to say. I have an accent, that's probably the issue. It was a young lad who, in the end, realised the attack and bullying these people were performing and came to the rescue, and apologised for not coming earlier. I'd like to thank him, opposite from management and the people at the bar who instead came around and gossip about the situation in front of us. I also feel disappointed since I asked for a lighter to smoke for the guy in blue, who seemed to be the manager, and kindly lent the lighter, but was unapologetic. He decided to ignore the fact that these people were rude to us/me. Additionally, the guy in the till's comment, " you can't stop people from being people" wasn't necessary. You actually can stop harassment, you can stop violence and act on it despite of the rude people being locals. Isn't a pub a place where people are supposed to respect each other?. That was a xenophobic attack, and from what I understand, after how your staff acted towards it, is that you do agree with that mentality. I feel very sad, since you have a tourist attraction just behind, and Scotland is so welcoming. I would like to ask if you can protect customers in the future in this kind of situation, not the attackers if not the victims. Maybe by hanging posters, and providing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training to the staff it would be a good idea.
Thank you for reading to me.
