The Watermill is a delightful venue with beautiful views. Elaine, our waitress, was helpful, efficient and sunny. We all enjoyed our meals and were made to feel very welcome.
Disappointing
Lovely venue with stunning views but the Sunday roast option left a lot to be desired. Dried overcooked pork, salty beef, overcooked carrots, undercooked potatoes, watery gravy. The list goes on. Will not be going back to eat !
Terrible service and food
If you are going for a drink and to enjoy a nice view this place is nice, but I can't say the same things when it's come to the food, I ordered a steak Sandwich and from the look of the Sandwich the chef didn't allow the meat to rest , the Sandwich was soaked with blood and it was disgusting to eat. we asked for tomatoe sauce for the
fries and we got it at the end of our meal. The person who served us appeared to be the a manager because he was not wearing a uniform ,he did not even cared about the feedback. Will never go back again. Our experience could have been better if he would have shown some interest in what he was doing.

Kieran was an amazing host for the quiz, so welcoming. Lovely venue, great atmosphere
Slow service, small on size but big on price!!
We had booked a table for 6 adults on Saturday at 7.15pm. When we arrived we were placed on a round table bang smack in the middle of the dinning room. This resulted in very little space between tables and waiters, staff and guests had to keep squeezing down the side if us and kept bumping into my daughter. At one point a member of staff had to move a table from outside to the dinning room area, carrying the table above his head to get past our table which very nearly resulted in the table leg hitting my daughter in the head as he carried it over her.
The service was extremely slow (we did appreciate it was very busy) and the food did not match the prices especially for the amount of food given, 2 small pieces of monkfish scampi for a starter and a pot of sauce £10, we ordered the baked camembert to share and this came with 2 small bread rolls which was not enough for the quantity of cheese, previously it came with hot honey flatbreads and rosmary focaccia which was perfect amount and was £2 cheaper!!
The mains were also small in size but big on price £20.50 for a small burger with bacon and a small pot of chips and when we got asked by the waitress who delivered our food if we needed anything else we asked for some more drinks and the waitress reply was no sorry I can't do that im too busy! We had to wait another 10 minutes for her to then try and find someone who wasn't as busy to serve us, if would have been quicker for her to just take our orders (a diet coke and a lemonade and lime) then spend time hunting for another member of staff. It was a disappointing evening and we will not be in a rush to come back any time soon!
The location of the restaurant was…Dorking
The location of the restaurant was perfect with a view of the Surrey Hills.
The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious.
Our waitress Elaine was lovely, and couldn’t do enough for us. Would definitely go again.
Great food which we all enjoyed
Great food which we all enjoyed. Our waitress, Elaine, was attentive and vet sociable making it a great experiance.
Would definatly recommend, especially sitting outside with a view of the hills.
Enjoyable time
I have enjoyed meals at this pub and few times and the food is simply fantastic. The staff are very attentive and very helpful. Paula's service was very good indeed and made sure we had everything we needed. Could not ask for anything better than the service we received.
Thank you Paula.
Drinks with lovely waitress Elaine
We just had some drinks outside, with the most stunning views to Boxhill but Elaine our waitress was very attentive & made our day. She treated our dog to a bowl of water and some lovely doggie biscuits and always had a welcoming smile for us. It made the whole morning so much more enjoyable.
Sunday Lunch at The Watermill
We’ve just had a fabulous late Sunday lunch at the Watermill outside Dorking. What a gorgeous setting - we ate out on the terrace with stunning views towards Box Hill. Our waitress Isobel was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Thank you to her for looking after us so well, and to the kitchen staff for the delicious Sunday roast! We’ll be back!
Just visited for evening meal
Just visited for evening meal. Not been there for a while, The staff - especially our server Izzy, were efficient and helpful. The meal was a variety of items from the main menu. All reasonably priced around £18 to £20 on average. The steak in particular was cooked completely to the requested level of colour perfectly first time. Nothing was too much trouble for alteration to our requirements. Good choice of draft beers on tap. The desserts were varied and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend.
Poor Birthday Dinner
Poor Birthday Dinner.
After recent experience this is certainly not a venue I would recommend for a birthday soirée or a special occasion. The waitress was consistently inattentive, to the point we physically had to leave our table and walk over to interrupt her chatting to her colleagues so that she could serve the table. Restaurants the time was half empty so staff were not stretched. A new menu had been launched that had not been connected to their iPad to indicate allergens. Guests at the table had to painstakingly look these up themselves on their own phones having to go through each item on menu individually taking constant wearable time. chef refused to advise even though he was creating these meals. Meals finally ordered came at different times, the waitress had negative attitude walked off, Manager politely cancelled the bill as a result of our negative experience however the evening had been completley spoiled.
The service we expereinced with Paula…
The service we expereinced with Paula was exceptional , she was attentive, professional and very keen to ensure we had everything we wanted... it makes susch a difference when the staff are nice and Paula certainly ticked every box and more... the food too was extrordinary... we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be going back there...
Service was excellent but food was…
Service was excellent but food was awful. Roast beef was dry, tasteless, chewy. Potatoes hard dry. Veg inedible. It had obviously been left standing for hours.
Usually fine, but let down by tiny serving this time
Took our grandson to the pub because it has a nice garden, 3 adults bought drinks, all good, decided we would get something light to eat, kids stuff was fine, my son and I ordered the Chicken & smoked ham hock terrine, golden beetroot piccalilli, cornichons, toasted brioche (329 kcal) – £8.50, which sounds nice but was more disappointing than I thought possible, a tiny piece of terrine, unevenly heated, a spoonful of piccalilli and the tiniest pieces of dry brioche. utterly insulting, tried to explain how underwhelming it was and was told that they would tell the manager.
WHAT A FABULOUS TIME….
FROM THE MOMENT OF BOOKING & MAKING CERTAIN REQUESTS, TO ARRIVING, HAVING TEA/COFFEE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS IN THE COMFORT OF THE LOUNGE AND THEN FOLLOWING THROUGH TO HAVING LUNCH AT 12NOON AND LEAVING AROUND 3.45PM THE STAFF COULD NOT HAVE DONE ANYMORE, TO MAKE OUR VISIT A VERY PLEASURABLE ONE. OUR WAITRESS ELAINE,
WAS EXTREMELY FRIENDLY, HELPFUL & VERY ATTENTIVE WITHOUT BEING OVER THE TOP AND WHAT A FABULOUS OUTLOOK OVER THE COUNTRYSIDE!! I HAVE VISITED 4 TIMES NOW & WONT HESITATE TO RETURN OR HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE VENUE AT ALL. BOTH FRIENDS THAT I HAVE COME HERE WITH HAVE ALSO SAID THE SAME. MANY THANX & KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I’LL BE BACK !!!
We had lunch at the water mill on…
We had lunch at the water mill on Wednesday 3rd April. It was a beautiful day, we sat outside where the view is stunning. I would imagine the indoors has a good atmosphere during winter. The food was great and the service from the waitress from Tipperary was excellent - friendly but professional. She looked after us very well, to answer the question from the manager. If we lived locally, I would be visiting the water mill on a regular basis.
A disappointed family party of seven .
We were a family party of seven getting together for a pre Christmas get together for the evening. The menu looked very inviting and we were looking forward to a Gastro Pub experience and expected a nice meal going by the price of the meals on offer. However, the overall experience was average and the meals ‘Pub’ ordinary and therefore disappointing and seemed too expensive. Haddock and chips came out as overcooked with a measly portion of what was called minted peas, rosemary fries were simply fried chips sprinkled with salt and a very few slithers of rosemary leaf (not what we have experienced in other establishments), miso aubergine main was bland and the size of a starter and arctic roll (£10!) was a slice of arctic roll with a dollop of ice cream (really!). Even one of the meat burgers was tough. So, sadly, a disappointing and expensive experience. We will think twice about returning. We were asked to make a review by the Front House, this is it.
Find the lamb
Menu mainly fish tried the lamb but had trouble finding it on the plate 2 pieces as big as a 50 coin would not return not good value for money very disappointing
Today’ avocado on toast was best ever!…
We have a group Breakfast every Thursday and today my avocado on toast was the best so far - soft toast, generous avocado topping and a runny poached egg! Yummy.
