Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 66 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently complained about the poor customer service, mentioning that support teams were unresponsive, unhelpful, and extremely difficult to reach when urgent problems arose during transactions. Consumers also experienced extremely frustrating website glitches, unexpected account locks, and steep fee increases that heavily impacted their overall sales and profit margins. However, some customers also noted that selling items could occasionally be easy and straightforward when things went smoothly without any unexpected complications. A few reviewers mentioned finding affordable unique goods or considering general buying processes to be a relatively safe option for everyday online transactions.

Rip off site

Rip off site, charged us for withdrawing the listing after relisting it at someone's request with no further action taken by that person, and the listing was there a few hours only, OMG.

Absolute rubbish, dont bother

Absolute rubbish, dont bother. So many issues with trying to make an auction then wont let you fixed price offer anyone then new listing your watchers dont load onto new auction. Wasted so much money and time with auctions to completely mess up because of this apparent upgrade. Bring back the old trademe beacuse this one is a big FAIL

In spite of Trade Me's claim of buyer…

In spite of Trade Me's claim of buyer protection in the case of goods not matching their descriptions and Trade Me's extra protection for buyers who pay with a credit card/Ping, don't waste your time trying to get a refund! I lost over a $1,000! Fair Go was going to do a piece on my shocking experience until they lost their government funding. Trade Me is the perfect example of unregulated corporate greed - a scam business protecting scam buyers and scam sellers. AVOID Trade Me at all costs!

They are Masters of Deception!

They are Masters of Deception!
They make everything looks professional, but once they have your money, they make it impossible to withdraw. I was devastated until I found the names on my profile picture, who guilded me through the recovery process.

Should not even be a one star, paid over $100 for a listing for a jet ski and after 30 days I cannot relist without another fee , no mention of this until my add expired
Impossible to get hold of any one
My suggestion Face book market place instead of this robbing company

Worse than realising that this outfit…

Worse than realising that this outfit encourages, supports and protects scammers is discovering that you can't rid yourself of them. Membership is for LIFE.
Cancel your credit cards for a start. Change all of your passwords on every account you access online. Their PING function stores your details.
NZ's Commerce Commission is failing us all in turning a blind eye to what is happening here. It is blatant offending in plain sight.
In support of others here, I have also found that TM's 'Buyer Protection Policy' is a lie. I more than adequately proved that I was ripped off and instead of TM "having my back" they referred me to the Disputes Tribunal. As if.
That rip off merchant is still trading with impunity.

If you get called the N word

If you get called the N word, trademe encourage it and support it.

I copped an unacceptable vile r@cist tirade from a buyer trying to extort money.

The Trademe Customer Services employees and HR Manager went out of their way to encourage and support the r@cist comments, even writing the feedback for the offending party to help cover it up which is against their own policy.

They also prefer to try and hide behind a nameless faceless email address and attempt to put you on trial.

However it was Marshall Woods and Morgan Greene that were the slimy little invertebrates that supported and covered up the r@cist comments made by the buyer.

Avoid if you can

So=called 'Auction' site. It is a poor copy of 2003 eBay. eBay has moved on to zero fees for casual sellers Trademe charges 7.9% !!. unlike eBay there is no historical sales data - the kind that is really useful when you are listing or bidding something for example ' what is the right price for this?, how much have these items sold for in the past'? Trademe keeps this data for itself. Coupled with the opaque and officious 'customer service' clearly Trademe has decided it makes enough from real estate and car listings that it can ignore small buyers & sellers. Another Kiwi monopoly that badly needs competition

Don’t believe in the protection policy!

I bought a couch that looked immaculate online. When delivered was dysfunctional, had shrunken cushions and smelt like feet.
I purchased through afterpay and was under the belief there was a protective policy in place that stipulated if the purchase is not as described they would refund.
This is not the case, do not believe a word of it.
This is the most I’ve spent and wasted in one sale on trademe
I’m very reluctant to use this place
I wrote to them several times with no reply.
All A SCAM

trademe discriminated sellers no protection against unscrupulous bullying behaviours of buyers!

Hi may i ask why trademe does not protect seller against unscrupulous buyers or at least to treat seller ithout discrimination fairly, i experienced very bad behaved buyer who tried to pull out from the trade straight after winning the auction, then once received goods ( goods were as described per foto, there was nothing wrong with goods) but the buyer threatened me to place negagtive feedback if i dont provide refund and placed negative feedback at the same time as sending email to me , buyer simply changed mind without any good grounds asked for refund, and placed negative feedback, when i placed negative feedback for their bullying behaviour , trademe removed my feedback , but when i asked to remove buyer unfair un justifiable negative feedback - trademe simply ignored my request, it is very unfair and very discriminating, provided that that buyer really has an issue with buying behaviour on trademe, and I could see several negative feedbacks from other sellers on her account but trademe removed all negative feedbacks from her account because the buyer simply said that sellers placed retaliatory feedback, which is not true, it is the buyer who placed unjustifiable negative feedbacks first as a manipulation method in asking for refund, so could you please have a look into this issue, the buyers name is greenmantra66, and could trademe please delete her negative feedback from my account as trademe deleted my negative feedback from her account, as a seller i obeyed all rules, met my obligations as a seller, have not done anything wrong, nothing wrong with goods as described, buyer did not ask any question before bidding and started asking some strange questions after winning the auction trying to pull out from the trade and also no claim were given to her , as i think she expected very high value from vintage bangles it is simply gold digging behaviour from the buyer and trademe need to protect sellers from the buyers who is unreasonable then asking for refund if items not as valuable as she expected it to be, i guess so, negative feedback is very unfair in this case, thank you!

Trade me need to stop the pay by bank…

Trade me need to stop the pay by bank deposit this is the most tedious thing to fluff around with. You buy something and then don't know what is going on. Even worse sometimes buyers take days to email you with the bank details it's so slack and unprofessional.
What kind of business make you pay by bank deposit it is like something from the 80's. I know some sellers save on fees but if you are a selling a used something for 20 bucks a few times a year than you have bigger problems than fees.

Trademe is not trustworthy company.
They are very dishonest they take your fee and banned you after for any reasons they never answer emails and they are not a company to trust incredible bad services.
Stay away from trademe you will only have issues with them and they will ignore you after taking fee that you ask to get refunded .
Worse company and very improfessional and dishonest.

Ruined Site & Experience

As a buyer the site is just flooded with cheap Chinese mass produced products at massively hiked prices. You can even find a lot of these $15-$30+ items on Ebay (which is also flooded with this stuff) for as little as $5 and up. So you can guess the quality you are paying premium for. It also makes it hard to discern these sellers from actual NZ stores.
As a seller just trying to downsize on my belongings the functionality is just gone. The updated site is glitchy, half the options you had before don't work, and listings barely get viewed anymore. I would probably get more mileage out of a garage sale now and save on the overpriced fees.
