3-Hour Delay and Unnecessary Stops

I took a Transzela bus from Puno to Arequipa, which was advertised as a 5-hour journey, but it ended up taking over 8 hours, with a delay of 3 hours and 15 minutes.

The problems started with a 15-minute late departure, followed by a 40-minute unexplained stop in the middle of nowhere, where local women boarded the bus to sell food. While traffic can cause delays, this stop felt intentional and unprofessional for a scheduled intercity service.

If the company can't consistently meet the advertised time, they should update the official duration to 7 hours so travelers can plan accordingly. I wouldn’t recommend using Transzela on this route unless you’re prepared for major delays and little communication.

STAFF STOLE MY PHONE AND DROPPED OFF IN WRONG LOCATION?

The staff on the overnight bus stole my phone from Cusco to Copacabana. I was thankfully able to retrieve it thanks to the help of the police however we couldn’t make our next bus to copacabana. Instead of being sympathetic that THEIR EMPLOYEE STOLE MY PHONE WHILST I WAS SLEEPING, they refused to give us a refund, even though it was their staff’s fault that we missed the next bus. They then put us on another small white shuttle bus promising it would take us to copacabana, it didn’t. It took us to a small Peruvian town outside of the border. So an employee stole my phone AND we didn’t get to the destination we paid for? Transzela, we want a full refund. This is absolutely unacceptable and we will be taking this further.

Busride was zo extreem hot…

Busride was zo extreem hot that you could make tea out of your bottle water. To me it looked that they just put the heater up instead of AC. Toilet also really bad. Only thing was that the seat was quite oke. Would recommend another company to have a good nightrest.

Zero stars

Zero stars, This is a terrible company. Urging all Americans to please stay away from this company. They decided they didn’t have enough people on the bus from Puno to Arequipa so they try juggling me and my wife who is Peruvian around lieing about bus times to shut us up. Then when we asked for help they were very reluctant. So we asked for the person with “the book” for a complaint and the lady at the desk informed us we couldn’t get her in trouble because she took our regular tickets. We paid online so still have record!! Was very late arriving home. Please do not give this company solace or American dollars. Beware. The original bus we took to Puno from the same company was not any better. I would stay away from this.. also I am hearing stories of this company leaving people in towns they are not supposed to be in.

Transzela left us at the Bolivian border.

We were supposed to be on the overnight bus from Cusco to La Paz, but never made it to our final destination. Getting on the buses in the first place was unorganized... they let us on a wrong bus and we would not have noticed if people weren't already in our assigned seats. As Americans, we were informed we could pay for our visas to Bolivia at the border with credit card. Upon arrival to the border, we were ushered away to a different town by a Transzels employee, where he then left us to deal with Bolivian customs alone! Our bus continued to La Paz without us and, after having to pay extra for our Bolivian visas, we had to book a taxi to La Paz for even more money. This was a horrible and honestly traumatic experience that I consider entirely Transzela's fault.

We were travelling from Arequipa top…

We were travelling from Arequipa top LaPaz with the night bus. We booked the tickets online but alltough we had to have printed out tickets. So we went to the office at the bus stop and they told us, that the bus is only heading to Puno and from there we have to get another ticket at the office in Puno to get to Arequipa alltough it was litteraly the same bus. So after spending 1 hour in the cold at 5 AM in Puno, we were allowed to get back into the bus. Inside the Bus i realized that my hedphones (i forgot them on my seat in the bus) were gone. Nobody was inside of the bus during this time, just the staff…but they told me that they have no clue…also my friends breakfast was thrown away! After we departed vom Puno the bus used to make random stops for 5 to 20 minutes fore no reason. We also were not allowed to go outside. Choose and other bus than Transzela!!!

Way better than expected

I was a bit scared after reading the reviews on here. But I took a bus from Arequipa to La Paz last night and everything worked out well. Good, comfortable seats and no problems with the toilet at all. Not quite as good as cruz del sur but close enough.

Worst bus experience in Peru

No A/C, so uncomfortably hot, in fact nothing seemed to work on board including the toilet door. No stop for refreshments on a 7 hour journey which was not made clear when boarding. Rude despatch staff and poor cleanliness. The only reason this gets 2 stars is that it was, at least, cheap and the seats comfortable.

We used this company 3 times

We used this company 3 times. Seats are comfy but bus stinks, horrible toilet, no blankets or snacks or tv as it says on advert and also no one even bother to turn on AC when you ask. It gets super hot and no oxygen. This was all 3 times but we didn’t have option as we needed a bus.

We did the traject from arequipa to puno. A 8h40 trip. The bus was not climatized ( about 28 celsius inside) and when we asked to the driver to get more cold air and to resolve the trouble he put the ventilators at the maximum speed and we spent 3 hours in an hot bus with an insupportable noise.

While traveling from Cusco to Puno on 8:35 AM

While traveling from Cusco to Puno on 21 May the personel of the bus has stolen $1500+400 Sol hidden in my rucksack, which I left on the shelf when leaving the bus at the bus stop before Puno. The driver was looking if somebody is coming back to the bus and in the meantime his assistant (lady) was checking the luggages, which she observed during the trip sitting in the last row.
It's important to note that the should be security camera on board, so the passages should feel secure. This scenario is not proved, but it is the resalt of our investigation. Stiling the money would not be possible without cooperation with the the staff. Just robbers - avoid.

Worst bus experience we had in 3 months…

Worst bus experience we had in 3 months backpacking South America. We took the bus from Puno (Peru) to Copacabana (Bolivia). The bus left us stranded at the border and the entire staff of the company left without us. We had no money and no idea on how to get to Copacabana on our own. Upon arriving at the office of transzela/Vicuña in Copacabana, we were laughed at, insulted in Spanish (I understand and speak it fairly well), they said we were liars, and trying to steal their money. Things got pretty heated and at some point people were just screaming at each-other.
Eventually they even said it was our own fault that they left us at the border because my friend had to get a visa. Apparently it seems reasonable for this company to leave tourists stranded at the border « because they need a visa ». Avoid avoid avoid. (We also later on learned that our friend who was in the bus with us, told the staff that we were still at immigration, and that they insisted she leave while they would wait for us - but we’re the liars?)
We stayed in the office for 4 whole hours while the staff (who were in the bus with us originally) were laughing at us, insulted us and went to lunch, leaving us with their 8year old daughter. Before leaving us in the (open and very much unlocked) office with the child, one of the staff mentioned that all the luggage of travellers was still stored in the office and that maybe they should close it. The women working there answered « that’s not our problem ». We could have stolen everything in this room including the child, and no one would have been any wiser. In the end, we didn’t get any refund (even though they offered us 8 bolivianos - 1$ for both originally ; the bus tickets were 20$). We got free tickets to La Paz (5$ value) from their sister company (Vicuna) and that was it.
If you are seeking blatant disrespect, terrible customer service, carelessness with your belongings and potentially a little border adventure, this is probably the company for you. Otherwise, I urge you to go anywhere else.

We traveled with Transzela from Cusco…

We traveled with Transzela from Cusco to Puno. We were hesitating to use this company because of some bad reviews. But we decided to do so because it was the only option to travel by day without tourists stops. We had a comfortable, safe journey. The bus left 15 minutes late, but this was because of tourists arriving too late... And the toilet was clean.

No air-conditioning

I do not post much - but DO NOT go on this bus unless there is guaranteed (and I mean guaranteed) air-conditioning. The website promises it, but it was not working on our journey and there were no windows to open. Unbearable in the heat.

Horrible experience

During our travel in Perù we needed a bus service from Arequipa to Puno during daytime. Since Cruz del Sur (the best bus service in Perù!) had no buses in daytime we decided to take tickets with another bus service. We chose Transzela. Well, the WORST bus experience in our life. Dirty bus with no air conditioning for more than 7 hours (the bus had a delay) under the sun... sweating and near to lose our senses. They promised a suite vip bus with all the comforts, but it was just an horrible experience. Don’t take it... NUNCA MAS!
