Peru: on the trail of the Inca
We've now used Tribes Travel for two holidays to Latin America and can't fault them. This time (Aug 2025) we travelled to Peru, and what can I say?
From the moment we first contacted them, Alex was absolutely brilliant. He understood all our needs and asked the right questions to allow him to plan a superb holiday.
Once there, everything went to plan.
The accommodation was superb - luxury rooms in the cities, comfortable lodges in the rainforest.
The guides were all excellent - very knowledgeable.
The holiday was a mix of culture (Machu Picchu is mind-blowing, the other Inca and colonial sites were awesome), geography (Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon, the altiplano) and birdwatching (several dream birds seen, including Inca Tern, Andean Condor, Hoatzin, displaying Andean Kock-of-the-Rock - apologies for the spelling, the correct name is apparently inappropriate).
Although there were early mornings (a necessity to beat the crowds or see the best wildlife) and a lot of travelling, the pace was just right, with time to relax in the evenings.
The food was superb too, whether eating in the hotels or heading into a local restaurant.
I highly recommend booking a Tailor-made holiday with Tribes Travel.

Great company. Good to actually speak to a person who was helpful and answered questions before we went. They helped with my itinerary. All things went very smoothly in Costa Rica,transfers were good and on time or early, the hotels were great and we had a fantastic holiday.

Fabulous Tanzanian Safari from Tribes!

Everything we hoped for and more
We had wanted to plan a trip to Costa Rica for a long time as a family of 4, with our two teenage boys (15 and 18). Arturo and Tribes made the whole experience stress free. The WhatsApp service whilst there made it easy to check things, all guide and drivers really friendly and well informed, was like clockwork. The planning of the trip was great with help and support to make sure we all got what we wanted with nature, wildlife, adventure and chill time at the beach at the end of the trip. We had not done anything like this as a family before and the support and planning made us feel confident and reassured. Thank you so much for helping us have an amazing holiday that we will treasure forever.

Beautiful Peru
We dealt with Arturo from the start- he was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding suggestions for our itinerary. It was thoughtfully planned, with regards to the altitude, with our start in Sacred Valley, and end in Puno, Lake Titicaca. They were always on hand to provide prompt replies to my endless questions. The guides we had in Peru were outstanding and provided us with great explanations and were able to answer all questions. All the hotels booked were great, and some were oustanding. A message was sent every night detailing our next day's trip, and everyone was always punctual and polite. This all helped to make our bucket list trip to Peru one of the best that we have had. We are so impressed with this company, and their attention to a personable service.

A memorable visit to an incredible country
The planning of our trip was fab. However, as we got nearer the trip the support felt more light touch than I was comfortable with. We only had 10 days before we left, but when we went to book seats there were none available in our class of travel, it cost another £2,893 for a flights. This was a massive uplift. Also I had been very clear about being disabled, but our 3rd hotel was on a very steep cliff and I couldnt actually get to our suite. It was a humiliating experience although both Tribes and the hotel tried to make things better with a gesture of good will.
I still give it 4 stars mainly on account of one of our private drivers who taught us more about Costa Rica in 6 hours than we learnt across the entire 10 days. He is a hidden gem. Also all hotels were excellent, authentic in their decor with wonderful personnel.

We’re sorry to hear that a few elements of your trip didn’t meet your expectations. Your booking was confirmed just 10 days before departure, and we worked closely with you during that time to get everything in place as smoothly as possible. Having spoken with our Costa Rica team, I understand you were in contact right up until you departed.
Regarding the flight, I assume you upgraded the flight for that cost? I know you were looking to book extra leg room seats, but unfortunately when booking a trip 10 days out, it makes it much harder to book those seats as they often get booked up early. There would still have been seats in your class, though the airline may have removed the seat map and allocated at the airport, which is out of our control unfortunately, airlines will sometimes do this for very busy flights.
We took your mobility needs into account throughout the planning, and we’re genuinely sorry the final hotel presented an unexpected challenge. As soon as we were made aware, we arranged a complimentary upgrade to a more accessible suite, covered dinner, and offered a spa treatment to try and make things more comfortable.
We always aim to be proactive and thoughtful in our service, and while we regret that parts of your experience caused frustration, we’re glad you still found much to enjoy in Costa Rica. Thank you again for travelling with us – we’d love the chance to help with a future adventure, with your comfort and preferences even more front of mind.

Tribes Travel arranged a tailor-made holiday to Peru for us, two friends who had not travelled beyond Europe for decades and needed specialist advice and support. A dream Safari holiday in Botswana

Our Peru adventure was well organised and Lima tour guides were professional and knowledgeable and made our internal flight experience trouble free.
