Don't book their vacation rentals

Don't book their vacation rentals. They own a lot of sites now like FlipKey and Homeaway. If you have a problem while on vacation it is impossible to find out how to reach them. Then if you can finally get them they don't help you and you lose your money. DO NOT BOOK through them. You'll be sorry just like we were and we lost $2200.

This website is destroying businesses…Beware

This website is destroying businesses without hesitation...

Its very easy for an unhappy customer to just write whatever and it stays there forever and there seem to be nothing i can do about it except that to warn others.

All the positive reviews of 10+ years,of our family run holiday lets business,disappeared..

Not sure why, perhaps because our website changed host and been revamped,i dont know,i dont really understand the technical side of things.

What i do know is that in their place for the last two years, are 4 very negative reviews, some from very suspicious guests presenting our business as the worst thing since the plague.

I dont think this is the place to outline every case but certainly since those reviews being published our business has been affected in more ways than one.

To give you an example...

One guest's detailed account of the area and the interior safety features has led burglars to our door the very next holiday season and another one has opened us up to blackmail(!).

People take selective pictures of objects and areas where there might be dirt, rust, duct tape etc.. and ask for money/refunds so they wont put the pictures up on trip advisor!

I have tried to call trip advisor,no luck...

I have emailed trip advisor...nothing.....no reply

This is a business that has seen hundreds of happy holiday makers in over 10 years yet 4 reviews is all it takes...

Beware..

I made a reservation with Tripadvisor…

I made a reservation with Tripadvisor and put down $450 non refundable deposit. Was told I had 2 days to pay for balance on rental house 2 months in future. Received reminder email next day that I needed to pay balance. I clicked on link and paid the balance. Two days later I got notice my reservation had been cancelled. Somehow my payment got lost in some cloud somewhere. They did not believe a glitch had occurred and refused to refund booking fee. Horrible customer service. Went through 5 managers and no one believed me. If you find a place to rent use them to find it then go to internet and find the REAL managers of the property.

Trip Advisor is a criminal site

Trip Advisor is a criminal site. Their domain name is illegally registered and they run a spam operation, primarily through Android. Avoid it at all costs and if you haven't avoided it please consider following up and filing criminal complaints..

Cannot trust the ratings are a true reflection

I used to rely on Trip Advisor to gauge what a hotel is like.

I had a bad experience with one recently and wrote a review on TA about it. My review was removed with no explanation given.

I resubmitted a review, ensuring I did not do anything that may be against guidelines, yet it was also removed.

I contacted them and they said I didn't conform to guidelines on both reviews. I asked what part of my review did not conform, they said they could not tell me as it was propriety information. They did not explain why they did no notify me about cancellation of my reviews.

I read the guidelines and cannot think of anything that would violate these. It makes me wonder if hotels etc and TA have some sort of agreement that prevents negative reviews being published.

Even if this is not the case, it makes me wonder how many reviews, good or bad, have been removed. It seems more likely negative reviews would be removed however and these are key for potential visitors to know, moreso than positive reviews.

So going forward, I will not refer to TA any longer, they pretty much only appear to want positive reviews for some hotels.

Bearing in mind, TA have a hotel booking service on their website, so when a rating decreases, this would reduce the demand etc- so if TA offer this hotel booking service, do they profit in some way the same as other hotel booking websites do?

Perhaps negative ratings on their best sellers are avoided? Sounds like motive.

I often share reviews on Trip Advisor…

I often share reviews on Trip Advisor of my experiances. Mainly 4 or 5 star. I recently had a very bad experiacne in a hotel and wrote a review achordingly. Without any explanation Trip Advisor did not publish. So far from being a good source of honest reviews something is not right. I will no longer be using Trip Advisor for good information.

Nightmare company

Nightmare company. We do not subscribe to TA but have had reviews placed by some of our guests. Unbeknown to us because we do not follow it some prat has placed a false review on . I have tried every which way to contact TA and get it removed but without success. It should be a legal requirement that they have a contact centre which is accessible to all. False reviews damage businesses like mine. What a pity that we cannot damage big ugly American travel giants who get rich from hurting small businesses.

Absolute poor customer service

Trip Advisor and the whole team are very ignorant and don't offer help in any way - the only thing they do is shoving emails around between parties which wasn't helpful at all.
I had the worst experience with them and would never recommend them to anyone. The customer service is absolute crap. Actually no service at all. Very poor!

Daft flight schedules taking up to 32 days

Searched Trip Advisor for flights Cardiff to Malta once. Now I keep being bombarded with their e-mails with flights, taking in duration from 6 to 32 days. Wouldn't be so bad if Trip Advisor provided free accommodation during the stops waiting for next connection! Good news is, now I may have solved a Biblical mystery; Why it took Moses and the Israelites 40 years to travel from Egypt to the Promised Land. Yes, you guessed it; they booked it through Trip Advisor! hehe

DO NOT USE TRIP ADVISOR OR CACELON!

Booked a room through Trip Advisor. Ended up with Cancelon booking the room. Long story short, needed to make a small change in the reservation. They were no help and more than that, they were not concerned about helping. Ended up paying $185 extra for another night. DO NOT USE THEM!!!

Does TripAdvisor really investigate suspicious reviews?

I have written over 700 reviews on TripAdvisor - I mean on their site. However, recently I have reported a site which had many suspicious reviews i.e. many 5 star reviews written by individuals who have only ever written this one review. As this concerned a major hotel, this looked strange to me. However, I discovered that reporting such a possible fraud is all but easy and I exchanged numerous emails with TripAdvisor on this topic. Their latest email of today stated that it may take time to investigate this issue, but that the results of their investigation will not be disclosed. Wow!!! The results of the Mueller investigation have been disclosed, but Tripadvisor keeps its investigation secret. Ultimately I do believe, as reported in many newspapers etc, that Tripadvisor has an enormous conflict of interest as it directly benefits form strong reviews via its booking engine.
Bottom line - take Tripadvisor reviews with a pinch of salt and always check who wrote the reviews and how many reviews that individual has written
