Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 93 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found that there were discrepancies between advertised and final prices, and some even reported finding better deals by booking directly with hotels. Customers also frequently encountered issues with the booking process, including a lack of confirmation emails, incorrect hotel reservations, and difficulties with cancellation and refund processing. The minority of people were dissatisfied with the website's functionality, noting a lack of essential filters and difficulties in contacting customer support, often leading to unresolved queries and generic responses. Some people also felt that the payment process was problematic, with instances of multiple charges or difficulties where hotels reportedly did not receive payments, despite customers having paid in full.

Trivago is based on lies

Trivago is based on lies. They sucked me in with a "too good to be true" rate for a hotel I was looking at. When I clicked through it was available up until I went to pay then it said offer expired and promptly doubles the price. Once could be genuine but a week later they were doing the same again for the same hotel for the same dates, I tried again and surprise surprise the same thing happened. This experience will make me steer clear from now on.

Shame I can't give 0 star

Shame I can't give 0 star , this website said that the hotel had a room free when there wasn't one then proceeded to take the money and there's no easy way of getting a refund . DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE

Expensive lesson learnt

will never use Trivago again .I though i had booked a hotel for a family event . But got no confirmation e-mail despite the money having been taken.

I phoned the Hotel directly . The only booking they had in my name was for 3 months earlier and the wrong dates. I had definitely not booked these dates .

Trivago refused to refund the money or acknowledge there mistake. I lost over £100. Expensive lesson learnt. I will not use them again

I re booked directly with the Hotel and it was cheaper .

Lost my money and put in so much stress and ruined my trip.

Voucher number is: 16543453693

I have sent email to all management and customer service. and NEVER received a response.

Click bait - Prices are not real!

Click bait website! Their prices are fake! Do not trust them all they want is your click to their affiliate sites and once you clicked they get kick backs from that hotel forever from your booking even though the advertised price is incorrect. Shady tactics to get you to click, making it look like its cheaper until you click the link and it changes to the real price that is more expensive. Might as well book direct!

Awful TV adverts

Not the service, but the annoying puerile television adverts with the American men with the glaringly white tombstone teeth (obviously false so why should we trust THEM) and the smarmy smiles. All my friends say they do not use Trivago because of the awful adverts.

Room cancelled on arrival

We booked and paid for a room at the London Hilton Park Lane four weeks in advance of staying at the hotel where me and my wife attended a prestigious evening function. The first night was booked by the function hosts and we paid for a second night through a Trivago search and where Algotel was chosen as the selling agent.

On arriving at the hotel they informed us Algotel had cancelled our room for the second night and it took numerous phone calls in long phone queues to a foreign call centre and additional follow up emails over our first day and evening in London which spoilt our whole break. We were so worried we did not have anywhere to stay the following day or night as the hotel could not confirm any rooms would be available if we left it to long to re-book and pay again!

It was eventually resolved the following morning, however this whole experience was so stressful with us not knowing where we stood with regards to our booking and we will never use Algotel or Trivago ever again and with Trivago being a very visible operation with a prominent national presence on TV, I don't understand how they do not vet thier travel partners where these organisations are clearly operating outside any customer focused quality delivery service.

Trivago left us with over £3K debt and no accommodation

We booked our accommodation through Trivago in April ‘25 for 14 nights arriving on New Year’s Eve 2025. We paid in full and had immediate confirmation.
Upon our arrival at our chosen hotel we were told that there is a problem with the booking and our booking had had to be cancelled!
Since May ‘25 the hotel had endlessly emailed Trivago to say that it was closing for refurbishment and that they couldn’t cover the whole 14 nights. The hotel graciously offered a different hotel with an upgraded room for the inconvenience and continually raised the issue with Trivago throughout 2025. Trivago neither forwarded the information to us or responded to the hotel. Eventually around December 14th our reservation was cancelled by the hotel and a full refund given. The hotel manager said that they had been so worried that we would turn up and here we were! They were now fully booked so couldn’t offer us any accommodation even for one night.
I was on the phone to the Trivago helpline for 6 hours on NYE asking to be helped with accommodation, for context I explained that I am a wheelchair user and my husband and were feeling stressed but despite promises of call backs and assistance none came, at this point logging into the Trivago booking site from our confirmation email showed our booking still live.
The hotel receptionist even found a hotel close by that had availability but Trivago wouldn’t make the booking for us. After being up since 3am we were mentally and physically exhausted, hungry, thirsty and so worried about being in debt or on the street. The next flight home wasn’t until the next night so we were proper stuck.
At 9pm our only option really was to book the available hotel and try to claim the money back, however as far as Trivago are concerned once we had confirmed that we were staying elsewhere it was even less of a priority. Now the situation is that they do not answer emails or try to resolve by phone. This has left us in serious financial trouble through no fault of our own or the original hotel. Do yourselves a favour and learn from our experience and *do not* use Trivago for accommodation.

Very poor service - avoid!

Very poor service. Booked online for same day accommodation, 2.5 hours later, no confirmation.

Called and agreed refund, booked direct with hotel.

On arrival, booking had still been made despite agreement to cancel because they couldn’t confirm.

Now I’ve paid twice and they’re using generic replies to messages, without reviewing details.

Hotel have confirmed they have not taken payment from digital card.

Not one price was the same as the original

Just checked a hotel using Trivago . Said it was £125 per night, went into the website to find it was £159. Checked a few more hotels. Not one price initially given by Trivago was even close to the original price. Stay away from these sites
