The fastest claim I have even been able…

The fastest claim I have even been able to make and receive funds for! I submitted the claim and the funds minus the excess was received within hours! This also included 1 further information request.

I hope should I need to claim again this would also still be the case and if so I will use True Traveller and recommend them all the time!

The best customer service you could ask for :)

I went to Canada for 1 year through my IEC program. During my stay I had to urgently see a doctor at ER because of my health problem. I am so happy that I chose True Traveller insurance. Big thanks to Dasa from True Traveller, who is very professional and kind-hearted person, who fully understands your problem. I higly recommend True Traveller :)

Recommended! Professional, customer obsessed, fast in addressing needs

I travelled 3 months in South America with my girlfriend, and after some research we decided to go with a True Traveller insurance. So happy with the choice. Unfortunately we’ve had an instance of theft during the trip, and the team at True Traveler was professional and great in helping us both in the short term providing guidance on how to manage (eg police report) and in the medium term providing refunds for covered stolen items (thank you Zeus for managing the case). Website is very good and informative. Prices competitive. Customer attention and speed of response high. Highly recommended.

Do not use this company

EDIT: the response below is false. They had the payment details they mention for external healthcare company Medcom for almost a month, and there are outstanding payments for the hospital that they have certainly had the details for for over 5 months. I need proof of payment for these in order for my hospital debts to be cleared and myself to stop receiving debt collection notices, but I did not get this, only a long detailed email this morning complaining about how this is the fault of the North American healthcare system that in their words I will receive debt collection notices for 'years to come' (can't wait), not as a result of the incompetency experienced with this company and AXA - they were told they had 3 months to pay, they didn't, and now I'm in this mess.

5 months ago while abroad I underwent 2 unexpected major surgeries and spent a month in hospital. My experience with True Traveller has been nothing short of horrific and traumatic.

For the first month I was completely incapacitated and my partner was handling the claim. Everything was approved and we were told everything would be taken care of. Then, I took over the handling of the claim from my bed, as I still continue to do in my recovery, and it has been absolutely awful.

I spent a long time in hospital and had several after care services post discharge that needed to be paid. Getting each individual invoice to be paid has been an excruciating process. I've had to send them numerous times, check up on their payment constantly, an average of about 5 emails per invoice batch over weeks is sent by me checking up on these *time sensitive* invoices from the hospital. When I do get emails, they're INCREDIBLY late, they're often nonsensical and completely ignore what I was saying in my original email. The hospital themselves have complained to me on numerous occasions that they can't get a hold of anyone at AXA/TT via email or fax, and 5 MONTHS later I have now been on the receiving end of multiple *debt collection* notices from the hospital because invoices that TT said would be paid were not. I got my final notice from the hospital over 2 last remaining unpaid invoices and have been trying DESPERATELY to get a hold of TT to no avail. After about 6 emails to AXA and my contact at TT they said they would send me payment confirmation that the hospital need, and yet about 10 days later and several emails with me checking up on it, nothing has come through and my time is almost up.

I'm at my absolute wits end. I paid a huge chunk of money for this service because I was told it was great. I should not under any circumstances have had to chase this up and be this stressed over claims that were approved because they do not pay on time or do not send the hospital any confirmation so that they can erase my balance. I've been left in tears multiple times over this situation, while I recover from two major surgeries and deal with the repercussions to my life. This has been absolutely horrendous. DO NOT use this service.

We have written directly to our customer regarding this situation, also expressing our dissatisfaction with the situation.

Over 90% of the claim to the medical facilities has been paid, more than $100,000, but one part of the claim couldn’t be paid as AXA didn’t have the beneficiary bank details, though an AXA Guarantee of Payment was in place. AXA received an email early this morning from that firm confirming their bank details, so payment can now be made.

Billing, or multiple billing, from North America Hospitals is never one bill, but multiple bills spread out over months sometimes. If your inpatient claim has been approved, just forward any demands to our claims department and we will sort it out, as the debt is ours, not yours.

I took out a family insurance policy…

I took out a family insurance policy when I was travelling around the world in the hope we would never need to use. Unfortunately when we were away someone on a moped tried to my crossover bag dragging me to the ground causing me to break my collar bone. My husband immediately contacted True Traveller from the hospital to explain the situation and to find out the best course of action. I chose to fly back to the UK to receive surgery 2 days later. True Traveller were not like other insurance companies, they treated me like a human being and were genuinely concerned about my injuries. After sending off my receipts and hospital letters I was regularly updated on the process of my claim, which was settled several days later. I could not have asked for a better service from Dasa (agent) at True Traveller. I would highly recommend True Traveller to all my friends and family.

Great service once documents uploaded

Bought a year long global travel policy with True Traveller. Thought the cost and coverage was good in comparison to competitors. Used the policy to reclaim the cost of an online GP consultation and subsequent visit to local emergency care while travelling. I made sure to collect receipts and doctors notes from both. Once I had made the claim with True Traveller online, it was processed and paid exceptionally quickly with no further questions. Great service. The process of making the claim online was quite difficult as the system refused to accept photos of the receipts uploaded from both an apple and android phone (even though they were in the acceptable formats listed e.g. JPEG). We tried converting to PDF but these were rejected due to size. Finally accepted compressed PDF files.

Photos uploaded from smart phones are “HEIC” images, which we don’t accept. We do advise people just take photos of their documents with their phone instead as they are then uploaded immediately.

We will re-enforce the message on our claims page for people to simply take photos if they’re using their smart phone when submitting their claim.

Best Travel Insurance Company!

I took out a policy with them for the first time as I was going to Nepal. I got food poisoning and was in hospital for a week. My partner called them from UK and they were brilliant and said from start we will guarantee payment. They emailed me daily for updates but otherwise dealt with the hospital directly and paid them. The emails from them were kind and caring and I didn’t have to worry at all about the cost. In addition they agreed I could upgrade to business class and even offered me a taxi home. When I got home I put my claim in for the flight upgrade and other expenses I had incurred as a result of being unwell and the money was in my account the next day! The form was so easy to complete too. They are just the BEST company ever and I’m truly glad to have been insured with them at a time I really needed it. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again and would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend them to everyone!! Thank you to the company and all the staff for their genuine and caring support

Incredible service - Easy claim - Efficient Support

Incredible service - Easy claim - Efficient Support. I had issues in a remote part of Nepal. I sent an email and within 20 minutes I had a reply. I was given advice and when I returned and made a claim I had the case file opened (from the email) and everything went through within 2 days. Like I explained in detail what happened but then no questions asked - boom - money in my account. Nice an easy. Def recommend. Thank you so much

Amazing travel insurance & Quick payouts

Me and my partner have used true traveller a couple of times now and as long as you have the right paperwork from the hospital and proof of payment, your claim will be settled. (ours have been settled within 24 hours)

Great 4th time experience with my claim!

I'm more than happy with my TrueTraveler insurance. Since I used this insurance, this was my 4th claim (minor claims) and it was always processed within hours. Very smooth process and very helpful people I dealt with so far.

Great for minor issues, terrible if AXA gets involved

Your experience with True Traveller will depend on the type of situation you encounter. For most of our trip, true traveller was extremely quick to respond and reimbursed the tiny claims very quickly. It helps that medical care in Asia is very inexpensive. The problem came when we finished our trip in the US. My son split his lip open and required stitches in the US. Due to the large amount, we had the option of having the insurance pay the bills directly. We obtained the extra detailed documentation needed and true traveller informed us that due to the cost higher than their threshold (of course, it's the US), this would need to be managed by their isurer AXA. AXA eventually (after follow-up messages) confirmed that everything was in order/approved and that the process of paying the medical bill took a long time. I understand the process in the US is likely more complicated than other countries, but it has now been 3 months, I am receiving repeated calls from the hospital asking for payment, reminder bills from the hospital saying now the bills will go to collection which means my credit will be negatively affected. This is unacceptable. They have also completely stopped responding to my last emails asking for a status update! So in short, if you are sure to only have minor non-US issues to settle, true traveller is great. If you think you might have a larger accident or are going to the US, be warned. AXA will need to get involved and they are not reliable. To be continued if they resolve this issue....

As this refers to a medical case, we can’t comment in an open forum, but we can explain how payments work in the USA to hospitals.

Essentially, hospitals are part of massive business organisations, and bill insurance companies all the time. AXA, our insurer, has many schemes operating in the USA, and pay medical organizations millions of dollars every week. All bills must be checked and double checked, as hospitals in North America overcharge. If all bills were accepted on face value, the price you pay for insurance will go up significantly. If you go to a hospital for a procedure in California for example, if you say you’re paying direct you get one price, but the price if paid by insurance companies is at least double.

However, what AXA does, is that they formally inform hospitals that they are taking on the billing, and request that the hospital does not carry on chasing up customers directly. But most of the time, hospitals just ignore this, and put bills out to third party debt collectors who threaten all sorts of consequences if you don’t pay directly, like affecting your credit rating, for example. They can’t do this without a Court Order, which they know they can’t get. The normal fee collected by these debt collectors is 40% of the bill, and they just carry on trying to get you to pay even when the bill has been paid!

In other parts of the world, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, overcharging doesn’t happen so the bills can be paid very quickly.

So, we’re really sorry, we just can’t avoid reviews like this, and neither can any travel insurer. But for claims which come into TT, yes, we process these in a few days.

Overall good

Overall good , we had a slight issue when my wife was in hospital in Nepal . But eventually they sorted the problem out once we put the claim through. I think personally the underwriting company (AXA) could word there policy slightly better to help the customer in Nepal as that’s where the insurance was for are trip .

Quick, no quibble response and repayment!

We found True Traveller to provide the best cover at the best price for our daughter's gap year. It then proved so quick and easy to claim for a 10-day piste closure in her ski resort, with full payment being made to us within a week of claiming! Amazingly reassuring service for young adults travelling to far flung corners of the globe alone, and for their anxious parents left back home! Can't recommend highly enough. Thank you!!

Dental treatment

I needed emergency dental treatment as I had toothache. I’m on a working holiday in Canada so dental is expensive I went yesterday payed for it my self and within 12 hours of submitting my claim form I have had the claim settled and will be reimbursed for my treatment. Extremely fast turn around and a easy claim form highly recommend!

Like most people

Like most people, over the years, I have had many different insurers, for many different reasons. I say, without doubt, that True Traveller is one of the best companies I have used. Courteous, reactive, efficient and professional spring to mind. I was taken into and treated in hospital. I filed my claim on Friday, I received an acknowledgement immediately. My claim was reviewed and settled within 72 hours. I could not ask for more. A 5* service.
