Not fit for purpose?

Getting really frustrated and stressed with this product. Clearly these ultraframe builds are not fit for purpose. When it rains it let’s water in. When it’s cold condensation forms and creates more damp. Installers are trying to help but seem to get no further foreward. Second Christmas ruined for us and the stress is starting to show. Reading other reviews does not fill me with hope!

Marley ultraframe guttering system…

Marley ultraframe guttering system totally unfit for purpose. After 12 months it warps, twists and leaks, then falls off the roof. Been replaced but same thing happens. Utterly useless design and performance.

More of the same from Ultraframe!!

The reply was the usual sanctimonious and condescending nonsense that you would expect from Ultraframe. All they can do is quote standards without answering the question and, in so doing, failing to do anything whatsoever that solves a basic problem of water running down a drain. This might be new to Ultraframe, but we can assure them that this process has been going on for years. Just try using a very simple thing called honesty and integrity and make sure that every customer or potential customer is made aware of the quite obvious flaws in the design.

I reiterate, again, do not buy these roofs.

Bespoke, not a chance. Best update your website!

Ultraframe, it's about time you update your website with what you CAN actually do.

After deciding to upgrade our outdated conservatory 'like-for-like', Safestyle was unable to fit the (definitely not like-for-like) roof made by Ultraframe. Seeing as it had not been made to the original design, my husband contacted Ultraframe by phone. He also asked Safestyle to bring an Ultraframe technician to inspect their roof (which they declined). However, they assured us they could design "any style roof" but, after several months of Safestyle unsuccessfully trying to fit the incorrect roof we received a letter from Mr David Bradley from Ultraframe technical support team (via Safestyle) stating "we are unable to manufacture a roof that is the same as your customers existing roof due to system limitations".
Why is it that a conservatory which was designed back in the 1980's cannot be reproduced with the latest technology Ultraframe claim to have?
In the end Safestyle walked away from the project leaving us with the badly designed conservatory roof. The box gutter is not long enough, two of the glass panels are too short and, due to the incorrectly made roof, the surrounding gutter can't be attach properly (meaning water runs between the gutter and the wall panels). The down-pipe has fallen apart in the wind as it can't attach correctly to the poorly attached gutter, sections of the roof have been left exposed to the elements as there are no finishing finials and the conservatory looks unattractive and untidy. Safestyle may have walked away from the project, but the roof designed by Ultraframe continues to cause us a great amount of stress and anxiety and we have not been able to use our conservatory for over 10 months.
It's about time Ultraframe stop blaming their "approved installers" and start acknowledging they are incapable of manufacturing bespoke conservatory roofs. How can an approved installer fit a conservatory roof correctly when they are only given components rather than a complete and correctly designed roof as well as the finishing features?

Ultraframe need to acknowledging and listen to real complaints, learn from real problems and admit their limitations. Ultraframe, please stop referring everyone back to your accredited installers and start taking responsibility for your mistakes and manufacturing limitations and help those affected.

The following are just some of what Ultraframe claim they can do:
"A wide range of high-performance conservatories, perfectly tailored to you."
"For a cost effective bespoke modern conservatory design, look no further than Ultraframe. With an extensive collection of conservatories to choose from, you can be sure to find the right style to suit your home."
"Choose from glass to a more modern conservatory style and create your ideal living space. Or if you need to upgrade your existing roof, then we can help you with that too!"
"Explore our range of replacement conservatory roofs, a great way to update and transform your existing conservatory. By choosing Ultraframe, you’ll be able to bring your conservatory up to date – and add value to your home – by using the latest in replacement conservatory roof technology."
"Gable End, P-Shaped, T-Shaped, bespoke options and more are also available from Ultraframe. To find out all the options that are available to you, it is best to contact your local Ultraframe conservatory installer to get a better idea of what is best for your home."
"Here at Ultraframe, we run an Ultra Installer Scheme, in which all our Installers have been inspected by our trusted team at Ultraframe to ensure all our products are fitted to a high standard. This helps to give you the peace of mind, that when you choose an Ultra Installer you know you will be receiving an excellent standard of service and fitting of your Ultraframe products."
"A number of installers use our alternative Quantal system, which is separate to the Ultra Installer Scheme. Quantal is the market leading aluminium glazed roofing system and every Quantal installer has been installing Quantal roofs to a high standard for over 10 years. These installers still go through rigorous inspection by Ultraframe to assess the quality of installations and to ensure they have correct processes and procedures in place."
In Ultraframe words they claim to be "The leader in the design and manufacture of conservatory roofing systems. To ensure we stay as one of the most trusted names in the industry, we not only test our products in our own laboratory and test facilities, we also use independent third-party accreditation and testing agencies, such as Wintech and the British Board of Agrément (BBA)."

Ultraframe, if you want to be trusted, you need to be honest about what you can and can't do.

Condensation with a livin roof

I had a livin roof installed on a new build conservatory almost 2 years ago and have had on going problems with condensation forming on inner surface of aluminium roof panels in cold weather. My installer has tried his best to sort this without success and contacted Peter Kinsella a technical administrator at ultraframe for advice.
The reply left me underwhelmed as it was all of 3 lines long apart from some general information about how condensation forms all of which we knew and had eliminated.
One interesting statement within that information did state that the design of the box guttering actually causes condensation to form behind it where the warm and cold air meet, this is exactly where we have a problem.
Ultraframe's own web site states " condensation will be a thing of the past when you choose a livinroof " but according to Mr Kinsella this is just " clever marketing "

Hi Kathleen,

We have contacted your installation company to request additional information on this so we can provide assistance.

The article on our website stated "condensation will be a thing of the past when you choose livinroof or ultraroof" however, the same page also details why as long as all of the the other areas listed are taken into consideration. This statement has since been removed to ensure it cannot be misinterpreted in future.

The box gutter statement was sent to your installer as when box gutters are installed onto fascias and soffits, different air temperatures will affect the box gutter in different ways to a normal installation and if this is not installed correctly it can cause condensation issues.

As soon as we receive the requested information back from your installer we'll work with them to help resolve the issue.

Not roof manufacturers it turns out

We had a conservatory replaced by Safestyle last year (Aug 2021), all that was needed was to replace like for like that was already there.
The roof was never properly designed on any program ( cad or other) and the image sent to us by Safestyle was not the correct roof shape and meant the gutters would not run to the drainage downpipes. We instructed them not to use this roof design if it did not work but they still came out and fitted it anyway destroying a perfectly good but dated conservatory in the process.
Having had several attempts at sorting out a roof that was never going to work in the first place, they gave up, unwound the contract and walked away leaving us with a leaking messy unfinished conservatory roof.
It turns out after much discussion with Safestyle and Ultraframe that Ultraframe can't make conservatory roofs after all, they don't manufacture roofs and the bespoke option they claim can give you any roof you like is a load of rubbish. Aluminium and plastic can be cut and welded to any shape by a manufacturer, its a relatively simply process these days, it looks like Ultraframe just either make standard components or probably buy them in from else ware and can only offer easy fit options for customers. They cannot offer bespoke options as they don't make conservatory roofs themselves.
Both Safestyle and Ultraframe want customers to have what they want you to have and not what you ask them for, now if anyone talks about having a roof made by Ultraframe I just laugh and wish them good look if its not straight forward.
Update :- I have just read the reply from Ultraframe below and it is clear they don't check their correspondence as they would see they have had discussions with Safestyle and myself over our roof. Ultraframe have said in no uncertain terms in e-mails that THEY CANNOT make a roof for our conservatory because it is the wrong shape or size and that tells anyone with slight intelligence that they are NOT manufacturers otherwise they would just make a roof to fit.....Its that simple.
2nd UPDATE :- I have replied to Ultraframe as requested using the web address they provided below and I have still not received a tangible response. They have sent the usual response of getting in touch with the installer but as they have already walked away from the contract because they could not fit the wrong roof, (and I use the term roof very lightly as it was just a bunch of off the shelf components bodged together as best as Safestyle could) and the fitting teams did try very hard to make it work but as I told them at the time "wrong is still wrong no matter how hard you try to make it work".
All Ultraframe needed to do was put an angle in the wall plate in the correct place, weld it back together to run it down to the eaves beam, move one glazing bar to the correct position and fit 2 new glass panels and that would be it. Because they DON'T make roofs they cannot do this simple alteration. If the design had been done properly with CAD or other such programmes taking into account the drainage discharge points on the house and signed off BEFORE production/construction by ourselves, a lot of stress and upset would have been avoided. Maybe the BBC should revisit its old "Cowboy Trap" series and investigate Ultraframes consistent leaky roofs they make instead of always blaming the installers.

Wouldn't buy this again

Wouldn't buy this again.

The tech support people have been great but the product is pretty naff from a glazing perspective.

It was sold as suitable for a DIY'er but used technical terms in the instructions only people in the industry would know. I phoned their training manager to point this out and he REALLY wasn't interested.

The instructions covered several variations of the same product and left you thinking you had not been sent all the parts and unsure which instructions applied to your product.

The support bar for the glazing is poorly designed and can cause your glazing to slip and leave a gap for the rain to come in. It was only the self-adhesive strip on the seal that stopped it from slipping out completely and falling into the room. To their credit, they sent me an upgraded version free of charge.

The seals are not long enough and leave a gap on every corner meaning the wind blows straight through. These can only be sealed now with silcon, not something the instruction manual tells you to do.

I went through premierlanternroofs.co.uk that now forwards to ultraskyroofs. co. uk who were rubbish. I pointed the problem out to them and the reply was “we have never seen this before so therefore it cannot be true”. The next call was to Ultrasky direct and they said they had a similar recent incident and sent the parts to fix it.

I purchased this around 2018 but feel compelled to write the review now because it has been a constant source of hassle, having to re-sit the glazing and taking it apart again to fit updated parts.

Next time, I will make my own wooden frame covered with fibre glass.

Had an Ultraframe roof fitted 3 years…

Had an Ultraframe roof fitted 3 years ago. Sage Installations fitted the roof so badly we refused to pay outstanding £2k. In a recent storm one of the panels shifted allowing the roof to leak. Insurance surveyors stated that roof failure was due to bad workmanship. Sage installations refused to honour the guarantee. Ultraframe gave 3 companies to repair the roof but all 3 refused stating they did not repair their products only fit them. I went back to Ultrframe and they stated it was not their problem.

Intransigent and unhelpful when it comes to end the customer

Installed a Classic Roof in a new house extension on recommendation from our FENSA registered builder; a bona fida local firm with a good reputation. Also checked out the recommended roof myself referring to the Ultraframe product literature and I quote:
-Weather tested with reference to winds up to 130 mph -Triple layer storm shield Creating thermally efficient,
cosy and stylish rooms.
- The original and most loved glazed roof Tried, tested
and trusted, the Ultraframe Classic Roof has been
manufactured in Britain for over 35 years with over 2
million roofs produced.
- All Ultraframe roofs are - engineered for the extremes
of the UK climate.
Sounds good to me, so that's what we've got, as a lantern roof in our extension.
Problem is, when the wind blows, as often it does, especially in winter, we are subject to cold down-draughts and wind noise, also the smell of smoke from a neighbour's wood burning stove.
Keeps the rain out, certainly, but the living area in these conditions is uncomfortable, as you would expect when you have as good as a hole in your roof. Difficult to keep warm and cosy, despite the remainder of the extension having plenty of all round insulation built in.
Ultraframe can't help, won't help, not their problem!
They don't have dealings with end users - have to work through 'authorised installers.' Communication not easy.
Roof comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity" which doesn't actually have any value whatsoever.
Disappointed? Certainly, we expected something better in terms of the roof itself and product/customer support.
