What a joke, no wonder local shoe shops are disappearing. I traveled a long way to this store to get advice and buy a pair of trail running shoes, I am new to trail running and expected a little advice, when I asked which shoes she suggest her answer, "personal preference". The trail shoes price run from £230 to £130 I am no expert but I assume all trail running shoes are not made equal and are used for different surfaces and distances etc.... I have had issue with blisters from a pair of road shoes and wore them to the store to get advice as make sure the new trail shoes do not so the same. When I asked how to make sure the new shoes (£140) don't give blisters and become useless her professional response was "you have run in them". This shop is expensive compared to online example I can get Men's GEL-Trabuco Off-Road Trail Running Shoes from sportsdirect for £99 vs there price £140. I was willing to pay the difference for peace of mind that I have the best trail running shoe for me as per expert advice. Very disappointing.

I took my granddaughter to the Darlington shop for her first pair of proper running trainers, Simon took time with her to try different ones to ensure she left with the correct pair. She has completed a couch to 5k course, is progressing towards the 10k distance and still loves her comfortable trainers. Thank you Simon.

Absolutely love this place. I'm a casual but regular runner and come over a year to get a new pair of running shoes. They're always so helpful, the free gait analysis is handy and they have a decent but not unmanageable range of quality running shoes. Thomas took care of me this time and was very patient in letting me try a whole bunch of suitable shoes until I found the right pair. Never felt pressure to buy anything or get up-sold. You pay a bit more than buying online but totally worth it for the service and ability to try loads of pairs.

I visited on 20/06/26 and was a bit unsure of what shoe to go for as it has been a while since I’ve bought any / trained properly. Emma was very helpful in assessing my gait and recommending the support I needed and providing me shoes to try out. Quick, polite and knowledgeable service - will return for any future needs!

As soon as i walked in Mark was there to greet me with a smile on his face and answer any questions I had for him, i ended up walking out with a pair of running shoes suited for me and a wonderful experience, would definitely recommend this place to anyone whos looking at getting into running or allready running 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Really helpful and welcoming staff. They have a good shoe range in a good price range for amateur runners (and probably better but I wouldn’t know!!) who want something good but don’t want to go crazy. Sally Ann was so helpful and really understood what I was after and was patient in explaining how to choose and bringing so many options. The gait analysis was great, I could actually see such a difference in my pronation with the shoes I chose. Will definitely come back for my next pair !

Rob at the Nottingham absolutely amazing. Went for a gait analysis as a complete beginner and he was fantastic. Could not have spent more time with me or showed me more shoes if he tried. Talked me through every shoe he brought out and analysed everything on the treadmill several times.

My go-to store for everything to do with running

I visited the Sheffield store today to get new running shoes as mine have done 500km over the last 5 years and it was time! I’m quite nervous about changing running shoes once I’ve found some I love, but Frasier put me at ease straight away. He asked me what I liked about my current shoes and what, if anything, I wanted to change in my new pair. Then he did a free gait analysis and found I pronate a bit on my right side. He suggested a shoe with the same foam cushioning I’m used to, but with more arch support to help with the pronation. He also explained how I heel-strike and showed me how the shoe he was proposing would help with that as well. I liked the shoe instantly, but still wanted to consider other options. I think I tried on 10 pairs in the end, running on the treadmill each time, but Frasier was very patient and happy to keep suggesting others to try. I’m quite indecisive and he helped me focus my thinking on what I should be paying attention to. We narrowed it down bit by bit, and in the end I went for the first pair he had suggested. He had been spot on!

I went for the first time to have my gait analysis checked even though I am a runner for over 45 years now .
From the minute I walked into the up & Running Reading store , I was given their undivided attention and the gentleman that served me went through my analysis in detail and then went through different styles of runners that would best suit me .
Top store only positive to say about them .

These guys really know what they are talking about. Very helpful but not pushy, I tired various trainers on and then found a pair that suited me so then tried them out on the treadmill and I even had a video watching my action to see if they were a good fit. Top service, thank you.

I spent around 30 minutes in store with Harry, he was wonderful, so attentive, patient, friendly and knowledgeable. I felt like he was really committed to helping me find the perfect shoe, and eventually we did! Overall lovely store and great staff. Thanks Harry👍

I was served by Maximilian, he was incredibly knowledgeable, a brilliant guy to guided by. We did a gait analysis where he helped my identify the right type of shoe to go with. He showed me and allowed me to try a number of styles and brands that I should consider. I never felt upsold, pushed or pressured into any purchase which is an absolute win for me, if I feel any of these I walk straight out, so to be given as much knowledge and guidance as I was, I would strongly recommend up & running as a go to place for all things running.
The store itself has a fantastic selection of running shoes for all types and kinds of runners from beginner to pro, heavy (like myself) to light.
They sell a variety of accessories, some clothing and consumables for those longer or more demanding runs.
They also have some run meets which I have been told lean more to a social run meet than a competitive run meet. I have committed myself to attending once I get going again and get some miles under my feet.
Over all 5 stars for a reason, I'd give them six if possible.

Yesterday I went to buy my first pair of running shoes and met Richard who was very friendly and made me feel excited to own my first pair of running shoes. The gait analysis was a very cool experience and Richard recommended and assisted me in finding the best pair of shoes that would suit my style. I tried them today and had the best run ever. Honestly, one of my favourite experiences when shopping and learned a lot. One final thank you to the staff at up and running.

Another lovely experience at the Sheffield shop today. Went in to get new trail shoes. Talked through the experience of my current pair with Amar, who proceeded to find me several different options with these concerns in mind. Very helpful and caring with the treadmill testing (I’m not great running on them). Left with a very comfortable pair of shoes and several book recommendations! ☺️

I was helped by Sally-Anne today and she was absolutely great! Sally helped me understand my gait and thus pick some great shoes. As a beginner this felt like a great introduction into the world of running. Thank you Sally and all the staff there! :)
