About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hi David, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We’re glad you were happy with the service provided by our team.

The service was fantastic, shame about the astronomical prices!!!

The service was fantastic!!! Shame about the pricing structure!! I understand that you pay a premium for an out of hours service but charging £276.00 for an initial consultation and £29.28 for an injection that cost £4.82 is a bit exuberant. We were in the surgery for approximately 10 minutes and was advised to go to our vet in the morning as it would be cheaper to have the required dental surgery. I also understand they are a charity and take donations, I was shocked to see one person offer £20 for treatment of his puppy that would have cost hundred's if not more. We are lucky enough to insure all our animals, if you can’t afford to keep pets don’t expect other people to pick up the bills!!

Hi Christopher, thanks so much for your positive feedback. We really appreciate it.
As you may be aware, it’s a lot more expensive to run an after-hours emergency vet service. The greater running costs we incur are reflected in our prices. Caring, kind and professional

Everything about our experience of using the service from the initial telephone call to the care taken in diagnosing our pet and medication provided to aid recovery was excellent. The consultation fee was very expensive though!

Vet was knowledgeable

The vet was knowledgeable about my dog breed and had excellent advice.
However, the cost is extortionate for the time and service provided.

Hi Elizabeth, It’s a pleasure to have helped you and your pet, thanks for your feedback on the cost of your pet’s care at Vets Now. We appreciate that taking an unplanned trip to an emergency care provider can be frustrating. It’s much more expensive to run an emergency clinic than a regular daytime veterinary practice and our prices do reflect this. Caring and efficient.

Worked well to ensure our pet Barry was taken care of.
Provided an estimate of cost and even allowed for direct insurance claim.
Could have communicated better with certain aspects of treatment but no complaints from service.

Elderly whippet.

Our old boy, Jimmy had been back and forth to our local vets for weeks with a cough that was getting worse. He was put on heart medication that wasn't helping. Last Saturday he got into respiratory trouble and ended up having a weekend stay at vets now, PDSA, Llansamlet where they cared for him like their own and ran tests that identified an infection (not heart related) and began treating him immediately. The improvement was almost instant. They were not blinkered by his existing heart murmur and took a holistic view of his symptoms.
Several days later, he is bouncing back strong and we couldn't be more grateful.
While not cheap by any stretch, I'd rather my dog be healthy and skip this years summer holiday than even consider the alternative.
Thank you to all that cared for our Jimmy.

No wonder everyone dislike vets

I paid my bill before i left the vets. 2 days later I receive an invoice requesting payment for £276?
I phoned their office but as it was the weekend no one was working.

Very unpleasant experience. Stressed out is an understatement

Welcomed with a reassuring smile and was kept fully briefed on my dog's condition. The emergency was sorted very quickly and my dog has now fully recovered. The only downside was the cost of the emergency appointment that didn't include treatments.
Thank you very much.

My experience with this company was…

My experience with this company was very mixed. It took ages to get through to the out of hours service as I was passed from answerphone to answerphone telling me to ring numbers that I had previously. When I eventually got through I was seen very quickly and the issue of my sick dog was sorted professionally by the vet. However. Yet again the reception staff couldn't take payment blaming computers and new systems that they didn't know how to work. Even when I was contacted later on in the evening to pay over the phone they didn't know how to do it and it was a slow painful process. So yes my sick animal was cared for quickly but I did I feel it was a professional outfit. Not really.

Unsafe emergency service

Arrived to be told a triage system was in place. No evidence of this as people were seen in order of arrival. I was there from 10pm
to 03.45. Reception staff rude.
After 2 hours sitting in my car with a very sick dog vomiting and passing large volumes of blood in stools I went in to ask for a bowl of water as my dog was dehydrating. No-one on reception and finally managed to get the attention of a vet passing the window. Vet immediately admitted my dog for triage?????
Reception desk remained unattended and for the flowing 3 hrs, I let people in who were ringing the bell. One such customer arrived with her dog having a stroke. No one present so I suggested she call vats now number and request they contact the staff.
5 minutes later a vet appeared to pick up some printing. I told her there was a dog having stroke in carpark and owner ringing to get attention. Vet did not respond to me at all... continued to collect her printing and left.
5 minutes later the vet came back with a stretcher and went out to collect dog. I heard the vet say to the owner that they were extremely busy, operating a triage system and they did not know when they would be able to assess her dog.
The vet stated that they already had 2 emergency cases - presumably my dog and a dog belonging to the only other person present.
I did not at that point consider my dog was an emergency and definitely not to trump a dog having a stroke.
The practice was chaotic, no one giving updates, no one to answer the door and the vets stating that they didn't have enough vets to deal with the patients.
Overall I fear for the safety of any animal accessing this emergency service.
My dog was discharged however spent 3 days as an in patient at my vets coming home each night. I chose to do this because the alternative was for him to be transfered to vets now for overnight care. Frankly I did not trust your service to provide adequate and competent care.
Unfortunately you are the only OOHs service in the area used by my vet. I will be asking if I can access the OOHs service in Carmarthen in future.

Once my dog was finally seen I feel the care he was given was good...I don't feel the vets had enough time or support to carry out their jobs safely.
