I was a patient at Wagner Kapoor…

I was a patient at Wagner Kapoor Institute and saw 3 different doctors there. The doctors were: Dr. Wagner, Dr. Dabbagh, and Dr. Kapoor.

Each time I was there, the office experience was disorganized and chaotic with there apparently being much confusion as to how to schedule appointments or what doctor you'd see.

The office staff there always had one young lady who was new or needed training, while the African American lady next to her had to tutor her on how to perform basic scheduling and office procedures - every time. And the young African American lady there at the desk always seems stunned or shocked like I'd grown elephant ears every time I would ask a question or say I needed a different scheduled date for an appointment.

When I finally could get an appointment, I'd have an appointment to see one doctor and then another one would show up and nobody would know why. There I am to see Dr. Wagner or Dr. Kapoor and be given the switcheroo with no notice and seen by a doctor with no experience in my specific eye condition. This wastes weeks of my life, letting my specific eye problem continue - but hey, they get the co-pay, and that's what matters most.

When I'd see a doctor, the teenager assistant to the doctor would say they are going to do something in the presence of the doctor and then after the doctor leaves tell you they can't do it or don't know how and very quickly run away to a backroom somewhere. Happens every single time.

When I had to have my eye examined, the room was filled with teenage assistants sitting around eating chips and checking their phones. The young guy trying to get photos of my eye, kept grabbing my head, pulling my eyelids up and down, and twisting my head around to the point that I felt like standing up and telling him to calm down or relax or just leaving. After trying to take the photos for several minutes, he got exasperated and asked a young lady sitting on the other side of the room to put down her chips and help me take photos of my eye. She came over and obliged. Then I had to return to the same place again since those photos, I was told, weren't good enough.

As far as doctors go, Dr. Kapoor seemed to at least try to be pleasant, while the other two doctors were clearly very proud of their arrogance and ability to condescend to patients. Dr. Dabbagh seemed irritated during the appointment. The more I wanted to know the more irritated he seemed to become. Dr. Wagner seemed very pleased with his station in life, proudly commenting on his beautiful bow tie and dapper attire and incredible staggering experience.

Patients sat often very close to each other, with some coughing openly or wheezing or hacking. One patient was snorting in a very guttural wet sound, so loudly it was impossible not to hear and absolutely disgusting. If I'd had something to eat before the visit I might have thrown up. But if a patient is vulnerable, or with eye cancer, you would hope patients wouldn't be there hacking and wheezing and making disgusting hacking sounds but they are there.

Each doctor has about five minutes to speak with you, throwing all kinds of horrifying information to you and refuse to provide any background information of any kind, and will proudly announce they have to go and just don't have time for you. One doctor even brushed his hand aside and said he doesn't do that sort of thing and "they do it!" And of course, as soon as he left a few seconds later, "they" didn't do anything except go grab a bag of chips or disappear into a back room somewhere.

The doctors all complained when I suggested getting a second opinion, refusing to acknowledge other doctors and making snarky, rude comments about seeking other opinions for very serious medical issues that impact quality of life as if it were wrong to do so. To them, it's a gag, and you're the butt of the joke. They are getting paid and can't wait to get out of the patient room. One doctor I saw kept looking at his watch and held his Yeti travel mug in his hand ready to escape the encounter before telling me anything. As a patient you realize just how low on their priorities you really are. You have to fight for care, fight to find out what's really wrong with you, and their portal never works. So make sure you get your patient records every time before you leave. They will insist they can't do that, but the portal either shows no information at all or cannot be logged into even after you create your account and you have to call their office, wait, and try to get them to reset it every time.

I wish I could see an ophthalmologist who could be bothered to care about patients and see patients as humans with feelings and needs and are going through an uncertain, confusing, and expensive Hell. All they can do is laugh and run away while making snarky, insulting comments on their way to the golf course.
