I was 6 months paid up into a 12 month M/C policy @ $62 a month when I sold the M/C & cancelled the policy. I was billed $252 cancellation fee which I refused to pay. Threatening letters, no personal contact, then sent to collections, again no personal contact, or offer of negotiation. Finally after a negative Goggle review, contact! But no offer of negotiation, I offered 1 month ($62), no deal. Lame excuse as seasonal, no authority to negotiate. Money hungry, hard line, impersonal. Stay away from this company.

I have a Lexus that was side swiped. The other person's insurance is covering the cost of the repairs. The car is currently at the dealer to get repaired. Wawanesa insisted that they will only use after market parts on the car and wants me to pay the difference for a legitimate Lexus part even though they will be reimbursed by the other insurance company. I have had Wawanesa for more than 15 years. However, today I will be searching for another insurance carrier. If I could give them zero stars, I absolutely would. I guess losing a longterm customer is more important than covering a $90 part. By looking at these reviews it should make sense for them to make the effort in keeping the business that they already have.

I was burglarized at my storage unit and lost over $20,000 in tools and sports equipment. My policy says that I’m covered for off site storage but Wawanesa offered me $0 compensation stating that they weren’t covered. Thinking of legal action …

Wawanesa,
I am writing to formally document my experience with Wawanesa Claims regarding my recent automobile theft claim, and to express my deep dissatisfaction with how I was treated throughout this process by Gino Biasiol and Jay Hodgson.
From beginning to end, my claim was handled in a manner that can only be described as mistreatment. Despite being the victim of a legitimate theft, I was subjected to extreme prejudice in the way my claim was approached and investigated. Rather than being treated as a cooperative policyholder acting in good faith, I was met with a harsh and accusatory tone that made it clear I was being viewed with suspicion from the outset.
The process was not only difficult, but personally invasive. I was required to repeatedly justify myself, provide extensive supporting documentation, and participate in multiple interviews, all while maintaining full cooperation and consistency in my account. Even with clear evidence, including possession of both sets of keys, receipts, and video footage confirming my whereabouts, the treatment I received remained adversarial and excessive.
This was not a neutral or fair investigation. It felt as though the process was driven by an assumption of wrongdoing rather than an objective review of the facts. The level of scrutiny, combined with the tone and manner in which I was questioned, was unreasonable and deeply frustrating for someone who had done nothing wrong.
I firmly believe that without the involvement, persistence, and advocacy of my brokerage, this claim would not have been resolved. Their support was critical in navigating what was otherwise an unnecessarily difficult and drawn-out process.
Although the claim has now been closed, the experience has left a lasting negative impression. No policyholder who has been the victim of a crime should have to endure this level of mistreatment, extreme prejudice, and personally invasive scrutiny in order to receive fair treatment under their policy.
I expect this complaint to be taken seriously and reviewed appropriately.
Your reply is a joke I’ve reached out and you people could careless, hopefully this helps others because you treat people like this all the time, I’d rather pay more then deal with wawanesa ever again

I am very angry at Wawanesa that insists on sending my insurance documents via apps. Customers are not given the choice of paper. No real discussion on this topic with no real benefit to customers like me whose insurance rates are increasing for no reason.. Sorry Wawanesa this is not right. I prefer paper by choice and should be given the choice. It is small price to pay for a once a year transaction cost of doing business. What about those customers who do not have access to a computer? A mobile phone? Are you going to bully them too? YOUR COMPANY AND SUREX DO NOT HAVE MY CONSENT TO SEND MY CONFIDENTIAL PRIVATE INSURANCE INFORMATION TO MY MOBILE PHONE.

Great Experience!
I have had my home and car insurance with Wawanesa, since 1995.
Recently, I had work done on my car.
Simon Luu, from Wawanesa, provided great help and support! I, also, found him to be friendly, caring, professional, and very efficient! I would highly recommend Wawanesa!
Sincerely,
Jeannie Moore

Every possible way to not insure folks - why bother being in BC if you wont insure for a WETT certified fire place in a part of the province where a secondary heat source is necessary when the power goes out (alot). Manufactured homes are in abundance here and ours is within the age limit - its on a FOUNDATION - its been redone on the inside like an actual house, the whole house, including the fireplace, has passed inspection with flying colors. what the heck is their problem?

It seems like this company looks for reasons not to insure you. I tried to get a quote for homeowners insurance and they said that because my roof was so old they couldn't insure me. I got a new roof and tried to get a new quote and they said that because my patio (less than 70 sq ft) isnt slanted enough they can't insure me. I have 2 coworkers who also tried to get their insurance and they also got turned away. 1 was because they were 3 feet too close to a hill and the other was because they had a field across the street.
Maybe its a blessing. If they are this stingy on getting customers to pay them I can only imagine how much of a pain they would be if they had to pay a claim.

Horrible insurnace company
Used them for 5 years and they screwed me over after I payed 5 years I went for vechile inspection what it what it is I understand that on there part then decided to get full insurnace and they sayed o by the way the inspection was done 6months ago trying to get me to do another inspection I told them no I did one with In the 12 year period you have it .then I sayed I only want basic inaurnace for now then they say you need inspection you got 14 days after all my car have been inspected and passed and I have all papers for it they also tried to scam me for more money 💰 so I have decided to cancel all insurnace and go with co-operaters much better company. Wawanessa also wanted for a newer driver 4000 dollars more a year I sayed how does a student that has been driving for 4 years afford that as this person is young. Like what the hell right .I do not recommend them waste of money time .
Also saw on the news a couple payed them for home insurnace for 15 years then Wawanessa decided to tell that couple we wont insure you anymore they asked why they sayed its because of your age your to young after they payed for 15 years .this is on global news wanted to let everyone know this before you use them
One more thing my brother used them for years with full coverage then a deer hit him they sayed sorry we won't pay for the damage .he was like what the hell so he let policy run out then went with different company

Updated my review as I am no longer an excluded driver on my parent’s policy. They work well for my parents

I am not exaggerating when I say that never before have I experienced such a terrible insurance company. The adjuster Judy HO has demonstrated rude and unprofessional manners (by hanging up the phone on me), and their staff is incompetent (e.g. the insurance assessor at the property failed following directives given and completely missed the very obvious damages as per instruction). It is apparent to me that Wawanesa charges astronomical costs for their policy with outrageous deductibles. When there is a claim filed, they twist the facts in the most bizarre and disturbing manner, to decline any responsibility to pay what they ought to as per their own policy.

If I could give zero I would. Horrible in a deceiving way! They tell you what you need to know and leave out all the parts that are important. DO NOT TRUST THEM! Sold a policy that was worthless from the start only to find out it’s worthless now!!

Over a month ago I was in a no fault car accident (was rear ended). Wawanesa's customer service has been TERRIBLE. I have been left to largely figure out this entire process alone, as my adjuster rarely answers my calls or emails. Nobody has explained this process to me and over a month later I am left confused and still without my settlement. If you want to deal with adjusters who actually care about your claim or business, Wawanesa will disappoint. I am already exploring other avenues for insurance going forward, because if I am paying for insurance, I at least expect the company to conduct themselves in an efficient, professional manner.

We are talking 2 bedrooms and 1/3 of living room downstairs.
Payout offer was $6000!
As this is a rental, they are now paying me for loss of income every month!
My renters are furious and I will never use this company again

I have had either renter insurance (7years) or home owner insurance (25 years). I have never made a claim and today was informed they will be dropping me because of my wife's home business, piano lessons. They say she has more than 10 students and they won't insure for more. They also gave me less then 3 weeks notice. I dropped them for car insurance about 6 years ago because they double my rate, should have dropped them for home as well. Do not use them, they will gladly take your money as long as they have very limited risk.

This company Wawanesa are nothing but thieves. I have been with them for 35 years with no claim and no missed payments. When I realized they were charging me 3 times the amount per month that they should be, I tried to do something about it with no success. I also recently had a claim that they did not honour. I then cancelled my policy only to have them take even a larger payment out after it was cancelled. Someone within this company is scamming people and getting away with it. I’m considering talking to a small claims lawyer next.
They should have a -star option.

I had a very serious and concerning experience with Wawanesa Insurance. A banking error occurred on my account, and instead of notifying me clearly and promptly, my policy was canceled with almost no practical warning. They sent a letter, but it arrived more than a month later because of the postal strike in Canada. By the time I finally saw it, I had already been driving two vehicles without insurance — completely unaware that my coverage had been removed.
For something as critical as insurance, communication needs to be reliable, urgent, and transparent. That did not happen here. The lack of timely notice put me in a risky and unacceptable situation, and I’m extremely disappointed with how it was handled.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. Double-check everything if you decide to deal with them.
