Great overnight stay and spa day
We did an overnight stay and spa day. Great value for money! Spa was clean and staff were friendly. Having lots of food intolerances food can often be a worry..but not here! They went out of their way to ensure I was catered for and was safe, can't fault them! Special thanks to Lizzie and Alex who looked after me during lunch, dinner and breakfast. I would definitely visit again!
Avoid like the plague
Avoid - a complete rip off. Have been visiting Whittlebury Hall Spa for many years, spending well into thousands but today is the last time. We booked the ESPA Decadence Day for £418. We arrived on time & both had lovely treatments but when we ventured into the Hydro Spa after, it went downhill rapidly. The Spa itself was absolutely freezing! So much that we couldn’t go in & enjoy the jets or bubbles. The sauna & other ‘warm’ rooms were absolutely packed, it was so cold that everyone was trying to keep warm in them. They were dirty & it was very over crowded. Not all facilities were working & if they expect this many guests, they need to ensure the capacity is suitable for the facilities. I asked at reception about how cold it was & she simply said it was cold today - she’d call maintenance. It didn’t warm up so I doubt it was a maintenance issue, more of a cost cutting exercise. Every single person we saw go in said how cold they were. We were desperate to relax so went to the main pool to find somewhere to lie down - not a chance, absolutely rammed. We went to the relaxation room, well - hard sunbeds with thin grey blankets aren’t very relaxing! Dirty, cold, hard & not replenished with clean blankets once. There was literally no where to relax. The place was crammed to the rafters with nowhere near enough places to chill & everything ‘out of order’. We spent 20 mins queuing for lunch at our allotted time to be then told we had a 45 min slot 😂 so actually 25 mins to wait for empty bowls to be replenished with cold food. It was filthy, a real food hygiene hazard, no signs (fallen on floor with food trodden into), just awful. The terrace isn’t as pleasant as it sounds, you’re crammed in the middle of the entrance to the gym & pool with a constant flow of people going past. We were entertained by gym equipment being walked through too, one person dragging a gym bike x 6 times past your table was just awesome 😂 I will be emailing to complain. We left after lunch, we spent half a day there for £418 - coming away more stressed than when we arrived. Whittlebury Hall Spa - you’ve got some serious customer service issues to sort out, we shouldn’t be paying premium prices for this kind of experience, absolutely appalling. I’ll update here if I ever get a response… but don’t hold your breath!
P.S; The changing rooms are old, dated, grubby & unkempt. The showers are freezing & full of other people’s hair & there is no privacy whatsoever. If you do decide this spa seems appealing above others such as Ragley Hall/Nirvana, then take extra towels, your own footwear & be prepared for a 1* experience!
Forget about sleeping We have visited…
Forget about sleeping We have visited over 20 years now and never again after this visit. We were put in a noisy room above kitchen fans, we asked to be moved, they put us in a different room with the same noise. It stopped at midnight and went on again at 6am
Rude, unhelpful - do not bother
Really disappointed with the hotel. We have stayed around five times previously and had booked a hotel stay, dinner and breakfast with use of facilities. Today we have gone to book our spa treatments to be told that the spa is not included.
This was not clear at all and we even contacted them a few weeks ago to book treatments for the Spa day and were told that we would be able to book on the day with no mention of the fact our stay did not include the spa.
Furthermore, the FAQ specifically on our booking mentions that the heat and ice experience are not recommended for pregnant people, which would indicate it was included.
We have tried speaking to someone, have offered to pay extra to be told no. It’s a 2 1/2 hour drive for a hotel stay for over £200 and due to the rudeness will not be going and will be contacting our bank. Really disappointed.
This is the same package we have booked over the previous 5 years. I would not recommend and they have lost a faithful customer!
Had a wonderful spa overnight stay
Had a wonderful spa overnight stay, the facilities were great and the extra towels and robes were a bonus when ours were soaked. We had a fantastic facial and head massage, highly recommend.
Ozan had a wonderful singing voice and made sure we had everything we needed for a beautiful meal.
Disappointed!
The good points were when we booked for 10 ppl and requested for the rooms to be next to each other and have the dinner to be together and that we were all vegetarian. Received email confirming it.
When we arrived we checked in and one of the rooms were on a different floor. So we requested again to have the room next to the others after going back and forward they gave a premium club room, which was next to the other rooms. When we got to the rooms all of the keys wasn’t working so had to go back to reception. Then 1 of the rooms wasn’t even ready beds wasn’t even done, dirty towels on the floor. Lights not working properly.
The premium clubroom AC wasn’t working. The bathroom area tiles were cracked. Flies/Spiders on the ceiling. Carpet was dirty, hairdryer not working would not call this a premium club room and would not pay extra for a room like this.
Vegetarian food were put together with non vegetarian food and wouldn’t know which spoon is for which was a put off.
Some of us had stay here before so was disappointed with our stay this time. What happened to you.
.
Underwhelming
I stayed here overnight on 17th July . l it just got worse the longer we stayed there. We went for my boyfriend’s birthday I wanted to treat him to a “fancy” hotel and spa break after a tough year: it’s been an experience we haven’t enjoyed.
Start with the 2 positives. The old man who greeted us on reception - what a gentleman. And the food and service in astons was great.
Service
Now for the less positive. It’s not cheap so you expect a level of quality, a level of service - most importantly good communication. Despite saying we’ve not been here there we had little information about what was what. We turned up at the spa and the service was luke warm, I can give you times where staff were chatting to each other rather than service. As a guest I shouldn’t have to wander to find out info I need. Especially half dressed in a bath robe.
Upselling
You don’t really need to book heat and ice unless it’s really your thing. Most of the saunas are next to the pool.
The sun beds get taken up by people who leave a towel in British style to go have a treatment leaving none for me and my fella to relax.
I paid extra for the special occasion for upgrading room. Where this upgrade was I dunno. There was no wine in the room as paid promised in upgrade - I went and asked for this and it was brought up. I later discovered no water no instant coffee (to make a normal cup) and mismatched mugs. Kinda said it all, attention to detail wasn’t there.
You do get robes and slippers which are great if you’re a size 6 or below - no good for us.
To top it off this morning I woke up with bill for the upgrade - underlined. When i went down to say I’d paid - no apologies. I did ask if this was why I didn’t get the additional items in the room and he just shrugged - which has summed up my stay.
Would I recommend you stay here? *shrug*
Lovely place but.....
Lovely place, good fecililties. Would love more guidance on arrival as to what's available. I couldn't read any of the information about the saunas, steams etc, can't wear glasses so didn't really know what the benefits were. Staff helpful but everyone in different departments having loud personal conversations, which I kept having to interrupt to get help. Had a lovely facial but a hard sell of products ALL the way through it, I really wanted to relax. Nice place though, staff seem distracted by chatting. Awful problems booking the treatment etc. We nearly gave up. No one seems to know what's going on. Had help from a lovely lady in the end.
Wonderful stay
Wonderful stay, as usual. Professional service, particularly Tom (our waiter) who improved our evening with his seance of humour and excellent service- nothing was too much trouble for him. Food in Astons was excellent.
Yes another experience of shocking…
Yes another experience of shocking customer service from Whittlebury Hall.
I was considering buying gift vouchers for a friend's birthday. I noticed on the buy a gift voucher page it says gift vouchers can't be redeemed against experiences, amongst other things, so I looked on the gift voucher offers and terms and conditions page and noticed that it said you get an extra 20% on your voucher if you buy £100 voucher or more. No conditions were stated. I phoned them to check about the events and asked about the 20% extra. I was told that there is no such promotion and it's only a black Friday thing. I explained that it was there in black and white right now on their offers page. Basically they asked me how I got to the page and then told me off for searching for gift vouchers. You can't find gift vouchers unless you search as there is no menu tab. Apparently I was expected to look in the legal small print to find out that it was only valid at certain times, and apparently not when they advertise it on their offers page.
They took absolutely no responsibility for their error and would not honour the offer as it was stated.
It is also pointless talking to a manager. All I got was a lecture on how websites work.
They have removed it now.
That's the last straw for me, the arrogance is astounding.
Had fabulous time on 11th May
Had fabulous time on 11th May. Food was top notch. Duck just fell off the bone. Lauradanna our waitress was especially helpful, polite, warm and friendly, she made us laugh too. She is a great asset for customer service for Whittlebury.
*currently here* Lots of little snags
*currently here* Lots of little snags, chipped tiles in pool, two ‘cold’ taps, broken shower control, having to pay for spa slippers which generally come as standard. The biggest disappointment had to be the bed which had springs sticking up and was incredibly uncomfortable - resulting in a sleepless night, as well as the staff at desks (particularly main reception, pool and downstairs spa area). Reception staff directed us to the longest way possible to our room, pool staff didn’t know what their soup of the day was so walked off for 10 minutes, eventually I had to go up and ask another member of staff who also didn’t know and took a couple of minutes to find out. Not a single smile from any desk staff anywhere, miserable, unhelpful, unknowledgeable and just seemed like they did not want to be here. A real shame and definitely will not be returning, which is a shame as spa itself (treatment area) was lovely.
dont do it
yes nice place to work but health and safety need to improve and hygiene, No hot water in the staff toilets to wash their hands, staff never finish health and safety training
Management never get back to me on the reviews i have given and could not have the curtsey. to reply to emails ,
Bad management and bad communication

Waitress Sue Surprises & Stars
Experienced waitress Sue starred! Facilities were clean. Spa...a delightful bonus experience. Meal diversity & quality hit the spot just right! Bar time was spacious & relaxing. Couple's room cosy, homely yet refreshingly new! My wife & I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary here. A casual mentioning of this resulted in a personalised dessert offering from the chef via Sue, who was set to 'retire'. We were there in April 2023 for 3 days. Sue is spoken of to this day. A benchmark character for a hotel with no little character & understated class. Fully deserving of a slot near the front of the hotel grid!
Lovely overnight stay
An overnight stay was booked for my birthday. Myself and 3 friends enjoyed the experience. The food was lovely and my allergies / intolerances were catered for. We had a fantastic waiter by the name of Rob who was attentive, had a good sense of humour and nothing was too much trouble.
The room was were clean and the treatments were lovely.
Unfortunately, we could not use the relaxation room as they had experienced a flood. Would happily book again.

Booked a 2 night spa stay for Mother’s Day weekend for myself and my mum! Amazing value, amazing service, fab food… will definitely be booking again! Top tip… eat at Murray’s restaurant!! Best food ever!
Disappointing - do not waste your money!
I had booked a spa and stay experience for my wife’s birthday which didn’t quite go as expected. Below explains my faults and dislikes with the whole endeavour and why we are put off from it.
On arrival, we checked into the spa and changed into our costumes and robes to make our way into the cafe. The staff in the spa were nice and welcoming and we thought we were off to a great start!
In the cafe, staff were non attentive and seemed as if they were more bothered about being on their phones and watching the coronation. Service was slow and as expected, costly.
There was a lack of customer service and acknowledgment leading to customers seeming lost and confused on where to go resulting in gathering at the entrances and doorways. Tables were not being tidied, guests asking each other if tables were free and guests tidying up tables just to sit down . Just a bit of a shambles considering the expected standard of the hotel.
Prior to our treatment we had a lunch booked, buffet style which was slightly underwhelming as it was mostly salad goods with a few basic hot items, again not what I was expecting for the price.
I had booked a cream tea which took 40 minutes to arrive and came without tea, this then took another 10 minutes once I had raised this. Staff again appeared to potter around with only 2 members actually doing anything. Hannah our waitress was superb and really carried the team. She just seemed to accept that no one else is bothered to help out. Hannah was the only waitress serving the whole cafe.
Understandably, slow service with 4-5 members of staff loitering around the bar/desk.
The spring awakening was a waste. This consisted of oil being applied to my body and left to soak. A seemingly pointless facial with god knows many moisturisers and a small neck and head “massage” which again, didn’t feel or achieve much with lack of pressure and technique. More like a tickle than anything - I left more frustrated and stressed by that then when I arrived. The treatment was supposed to be 40 minutes which felt like 20. Not something we would ever do again. My wife’s was the same, mostly a tickle and that’s it. A real shame!
Dinner was a continuation of the theme with a fixed menu not offering much vegetarian option other than some asparagus and artichoke as a starter and a bean stuffed tomato for mains leaving my wife hungry at the end. I had requested halal options and decided the steak was the better choice over the lamb which did come at an additional charge but I was pleased with that meal. I felt bad for my wife who was unfulfilled with dinner. No chicken options ok the menu at all. Dessert was average, crème brûlée was burnt and the cake slice was acceptable.
Moving onto our rooms and the hotel decor; this is an old traditional English hotel and you can tell. Dark woods, red, gold and green fabrics. The fixtures and fittings are dated, bathroom furniture is certainly traditional, very old and poorly installed - not the standard of a luxury hotel. The rooms are specious but have dated fixtures and fittings - small and very hard mattresses with uncomfortable pillows which both my wife and I struggled to sleep on, I was awake at 5am with back pain, my wife 7am with the same. Also during the night there was a LOT of banging doors and shouting at 2/3am which echoed through the walls. Overall not what you’d expect from such a prestigious hotel.
Having worked in customer excellence and hospitality and now high end interior design. my standards and expectations of this hotel and spa were not met. I felt as if the whole experience was disappointing at every step which is not how I wanted to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Especially having spent in the realms of £500 on a weekend getaway. I think some of the staff need better training on customer acknowledgement and customer service to better the experience for the guests. I think some of the staff could do with some winning behaviour training. I accept the traditionalism and decor of the hotel is part of its charm but it does desperately need an update!
I don’t think we’ll be staying again and will recommend friends and family against it also - I feel as if it’d be a waste of money for them and they would disapprove of it as much as my wife and I did!
Fantastic Golf and Stay Package
Booked a stay, dinner and golf package with my teenage son at Whittlebury Hall arriving Sunday and playing golf on the Monday. The service was superb throughout. The golf staff were excellent and we had a great time at the TopTracer range Sunday afternoon. The staff were really polite and helpful showing us around ready for our golf round the next day. Lovely clubhouse and facilities.
We had dinner at Murrays Restaurant and it was really excellent. Great menu and served by very knowledgable, obviously well trained staff. Becky was superb and answered any questions we had about the menu. There was a taster menu available but we stuck to the package with a few additions. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely have the taster menu next time. The food was amazing.
Great rooms. Very clean and everything as it should be. We played golf on the Monday and found the course to be a delight. We played the yellow/red tracks. There are 4 x 9 hole tracks and the starter system they have works brilliantly. We had at least 20 minutes separation from any group in front or behind us.
All in all it was a superb couple of days. We will go back again without a doubt.
