Reply from Xero Shoes EU
I ordered a pair of sheos from this website, and they didn't fit. 'No problem', I thought. Xero Shoes EU describe a simple exchange process on their website:
"We make returns simple with a GLS scheduled pickup for your return. (...) We provide free exchanges. To start an exchange, place a new order for the pair you want. Follow the above instructions to schedule your return GLS pickup and choose “Placed Exchange Order” as your return reason. (...) Once we receive your new and unworn pair back, we will refund both the purchase price and shipping cost from your original order."
Unfortunately, this did not prove to be true. The entire exchange process, from start to refund, took from September 8 until October 3 – nearly a whole month, and it was anything but simple.
The information on the return process on xeroshoes.eu is incorrect and misleading. After ordering a new pair, I was advised to send the shoes back *at my own cost* (note that we are talking about a package to CZECHIA, which is around 30 Euros), and that they'd refund the shipping cost once they saw the receipt from the carrier, and the shoes once they arrived back at their warehouse. Obviously unacceptable, given the promise on their website.
I had to repeatedly push back until this company actually did what they promise on their website: schedule a pickup at no cost to the consumer. After a couple more emails (more the carrier's fault than Xero's, to be fair) and two failed pickup dates, the shoes were eventually picked up and shipped back. Took another email to remind xeroshoes.eu to pay the refund after the shoes had been at their warehouse for about a week, and I finally got my money back.
In the meantime the replacement shoes arrived, and promptly broke the second time I wore them. It was nothing serious; the little latch at the back of the shoe that helps you put them on snapped off, but still: shouldn't happen with brand new shoes. I didn't bother returning this pair, given the painful exchange process I had just been through. Had it been from a brick & mortar store I definitely would have returned them, though.
Overall, a bad experience. The only saving grace (and reason this isn't a 1-Star review) was that the customer service was very responsive and truly trying to help, and that the matter was eventually settled.
The information on xerosheos.eu as of today is still blatantly wrong and misleading, even though I flagged it to the company on Sep 19.
Just received two pair of the Xero shoes I ordered from the Xero shop online. Very friendly people and good communication. The Xero designers have a special 'barefoot' philosophy that they put in their shoes.
I need footwear to take with me on a 3 months bicycle trip across South America. Bike travellers know how precious good shoes are on these longer trips, where every ounce counts and shoes need to be multifunctional. After some searches on the internet I came across this company. And I ordered a pair of Terraflex shoes and the Z trail EV sandals. The terraflex are very lightweight, but come with sturdy rubber toefronts and a very thin double sole consisting of a very rigid and profiled bottom and a softer innersole. So, good for cycling (stiff sole needed) and a hike or two in the mountains (the profile helps). The shoes looked absurdly wide to me, but wearing them for a couple of hours show how well thought of the design is. The material is not waterproof but I red that the shoes will dry in an instant and keep their shape. The sandals are minimalist and super light. But they have profiled soles as well. Wearing them gives you indeed a barefoot feeling. They can handle rain, rocks and dirt easily, I guess. I hope with these two pair, with a common weight of 930 grams, I have bought all I will need for my trip. After cycling 5000 km I will be able to give a better judgement on the quality and durability of course, but for now, very promising!
