Rubbish

Rubbish, you can do it for free with a little research, cannot use windows programs with it, the scam ad's are so bullsh** bad that they are funny especially the guy holding up a optical drive and not a HD as he states, and the guy who gets the Boot list up and says well thats fast, that part is nothing to do with Xtra pc or the usb stick, LOL

XTRA_PC - Bad Bad Company

Ordered Xtra-PC several months ago. On reading info that came with it I decided it was not right for my computer. Took a long time but finally was notified method of return. Sent it back. About 35 days ago I received email stating my refund processed but could take up to 30 days. As of yet (34 days) no refund ! Their Colorado phone # is actually an Arkansas # that has been disconnected or no longer in service. Tried to use their online chat - No response. AND - No help from Master Card. With taxes & shipping I guess I lost $64 and some odd cents. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS !!!!

won’t be buying

After reading all the reviews, I will definitely not be buying something that doesn’t actually work. Sounds like a massive scam. Shame they are allowed to advertise.

SCAM DO NOT BUY

It’s an absolute scam, they use a free Linux operating system and just add their branding. They just charge you double for a sandisk flash drive with a sticker on it.

Agreed

Agreed. I bought two of them. One mac, one windows.

Outrageous scam and I got fooled. Forget about tech support. I was online with their useless 'chat support' and they don't help you. All they do is send you a link to a set of instructions.

Avoid.

What you need to know …

One star for a misleading add.
This is a Linux operation system that runs from the usb drive.
And if you like it, their is an option to completely wipe your hard drive and install it permanently.
This is what is called a live cd/usb OS
This is only good for older pcs/laptops
You can get the cd versions of them.
I use it to access the pc or laptops hard drive and to check if hardware is faulty or has viruses in it.
What people don’t realise is that you can only use apps that is compatible with the Linux system.
You won’t be able to load or run windows or Mac programs.

Don't waste your money when one can…

Don't waste your money when one can accomplish/acquire the same OS (Linux) on a stick for free. I have done it many times. The commercial is rather misleading. The alleged hard drive in the ad isn't really a hard drive. It's actually a optical (CD/DVD) drive. The only reason to boot up a OS on a stick is if one wanted to try out (Take a look at) an alternative OS prior to actually installing that same OS onto a hard drive to actually use it.

I got this for my old tosiba laptop

I got this for my old tosiba laptop. I loaded it with not too much trouble, and it did work faster. However, when I re-started my laptop, the old software was back! I did this several times and everytime my compter is turned on it resorts back to the orginal software.

Mine works ok.

Mine works ok.
The knack is to interrupt the boot-up as soon as your computer name pops up by pressing esc or F8 or whatever opens your 'boot from' screen.
From the list choose Sandisk. After a while the Xtra-PC desk top page appears once you've done the initial set-up.
One thing I found though was that I needed to plug in a wired keyboard instead of my wireless one in order to arrow down to the Sandisk option and press return.
Basically it is Linux instead of Windows of course but it can access your computer's usb ports, CD drive, wifi, audio, Bluetooth and keyboard. It is better than a dead, dying or old Windows OS.
In that sense it actually does make an old computer work again.
But then my main computer is a Mac so I only use Xtra PC on my hitherto discarded laptop for streaming BBC iplayer TV or playing audio files etc..
